[previewlength] takes a numerical value.

ah i got you.. won't that be hard to determine how much words are in plus the codes.. i mean if a image is inside that wont that be cut off? is there a way that could make it just wrap the things that will go in newsdisplay and show all in the shownews. becuase if its wrap the things that will show in newsdisplay you wont be likey to cut off any images or codes.. becuase you can place them correctly. let me know thanks man

Thanks for the input. I believe you are correct in that images or any codes would be cut off and broken on newsdisplay if a previewlength was applied. I will probably have to implement a regex to get around this unless someone knows a faster and not extremely convoluted way.

There is a [more] bb-code included with this mode that does what you described two posts above.
The comments use the standard postbit you use in your forum. If you want to use a different postbit you would have to create it and make the appropriate modifications.

I believe you are correct in that images or any codes would be cut off and broken on newsdisplay if a previewlength was applied.
After some testing, I am impressed that this is not the case. I doubt it has anything to do with my coding but rather what PHP5 considers to be a word. BB-Codes, HTML, etc. are not corrupted if they span over the edge of the set preview length.

thanks for the answers..[more] the more bb.. cuts of the rest of the post to display it on shownews but the problem is that. it just displays the things inside the [more]bb.. can you make it that so it shows the whole thing thread on shownews?

I can officially say that this is NOT compatible with vbseo.
I have just installed it on a test site and all links, posts and threads in the news forum are un-seo'd, as well as the news forum link. All other forums, threads and links are fine (still pretty urls). So it only ruins url's in the forum(s) you use for news.
Aside from the non-seo-ness it works great!
It will take some vbseo hacks to get it to work, but I'm sure it is possible for those who know how. I am not one of those. I am in contact with vbseo hoping to get help to get it to work. I'll post their reply here.
thincom2000

The only reason I can see that this wouldn't be compatible with vbSEO out-of-the-box so-to-speak is because vbSEO is not familiar with the URLs it uses. But it's an extremely simple modification of the forumdisplay and showthread vbSEO modules in order to make it work. I do not own or use vbSEO, so I cannot post any updated modules myself.
All you would have to do is add your news.php to the forumdisplay.php rules and shownews.php to the showthread.php rules, since essentially the URLs are the same and there is just a filename difference.

UPDATE:
This is the reply from vbSEO:3rd part mods are not supported if they use non-standard vBulletin URLs.
You can either apply Custom Rewrite Rules to it or use vBSEO Functions for Extensibility (http://www.vbseo.com/f2/vbseo-functions-extensibility-1662/) to customize their code and display SEOed links.

Great Mod!! :up:
Works OK in vB 3.6.7 PL1!! :up:
Two Ideas for Future Updates:
Would be Good to See the Title of Redirection Threads instead of an Empty News!! :confused: :rolleyes:
Would be Good to See the Sticky Threads like in Normal Forums in all Pages and Avobe Normal Threads (News)!! :confused: :rolleyes:

I was unaware of the Redirection Thread bug, thanks for mentioning it.
I actually removed Sticky Thread support in 1.4.0 for performance reasons, but I have considered adding it in again for the vBulletin 3.7.0-compatible version.

One more Idea: I also noticed that the Titles of the Threads (her called Articles) aren't Displayed at all, only the Content of the First Message of the Thread!! :confused: :(
I saw that at the Top of that Content over a Line separator, and also Additionally at the Top of Each Box for Each Thread (in the same Cell the Collapse Button is Located), is the Icon of the Thread and a Space to Place that Title, but in my case isn't Displayed, perhaps is a Bug or a missing Code Line, or an Option I forgot to set; which one is it?? :confused: :(

$post['postid'],
$attachment['attachmentextension'],
$gb_options

eval('$attachment[goldbrick] = "' . fetch_template('gb_player') . '";');
}

Could you please confirm if this is still valid with Goldbrick 1.5? Thanks
thincom2000
02-11-2008, 01:41 AM
Basically you just need to global $vbulletin and then replace all $this->registry with $vbulletin. This is because in the News module the process_attachments function is not inside a class if you have attachments enabled on Newsdisplay. If this becomes too much of an issue for you, you can always disable attachments on Newsdisplay from the mod's settings.

Right now I have Highslide installed and also Godlbrick Media module which has highslide integrated. What I wish to do is remove the original Highslide hack as GB applies its own HS to the entire forum, except CES. How do I adjust CES to use GB highslide from hereon?
Thanks for any tips
thincom2000
02-27-2008, 12:38 AM
I'm not familiar with the GB Highslide. Highslide is a default feature in vBulletin 3.7 and as such will be a default feature in the next update of CES Site News. So I really don't feel I should recommend attempting to integrate yet another highslide.
I've just been a little backed up since I have a bunch of mods that needed updating and I'm trying to get each one bug free before moving on to the next mod.

I am wrapping up version 1.6.0, because it's pretty much ready for release.
This subversion is based on vBulletin 3.7 and the following features have been added:
- Lightbox in News Display
- AJAX Title Edit in News Display
- AJAX Article Open/Close in News Display
- AJAX Quick Edit in News Display (that's right)
- Stickies are back
The redirect bug has also been addressed.
If anyone has any feature requests and bugs to report, do it in the next few days so I can get it into this update.

The fact that vB 3.7.0 is now stable and also includes CSRV protection (as does 3.6.10), and this mod doesn't currently have the appropriate form elements, means that pretty much every user of this mod is experiencing security token errors when attempting to use any of the AJAX features or inline moderation.
I guess this will force me to release a new patch earlier rather than later this week.

I'm getting a blank screen when visiting my blog.
I have Goldbrick installed and followed this step again (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1440473&postcount=274)
I also have this set as filenames:
newsces / shownewsces (confirmed they match the file names)
I have VBSEO as well (mentioning this in case you needed to know).
I did notice that within the blog, although a blank page it shows the actual file extension where usually VBSEO does not do that.

I think im going to use if conditions to define the showpost.php so it will look like newsdisplays template on certain forum ids.
do you think this is a good idea? do you think this will be hard to do?

You can accomplish this using .htaccess. Also if you add the do=main to the URL it is slightly different.
For example on my site I have:
RewriteRule ^main.php$ news.php?do=main&f=2 [L,QSA]
This makes forumid 2 display without extra forumdisplay stuff like subforums on the page main.php, which doesn't physically exist.

Just curious, did you have 1.6.0 installed before upgrading to 1.6.1? (1.6.0 was released about 3 weeks ago)

Honestly do not remember what the version was, but it was the latest at the time.

I cannot duplicate the gray color template bug you posted above. You mentioned it occurs in Firefox and Opera... Firefox is my main browser and I haven't found a combination of options to create this effect. What versions by chance are you using?
Regarding the IE7 button cutoff, that I have reproduced and am currently working on...

Was using Firefox 2 (latest) at the time. Also tried in FF 3 Beta 5. Same results.

Ah, I see it in FF 3. Okay, well now that all of that is fixed, I'm uploading 1.6.2. Hopefully those were all the quirks...

Thanks, but still one more issue :x
When I submit a new news post, it redirects me to the home page (yet successfully posting the new thread). However, when your on the home page or inside the CES News area and click on the post title, it redirects back to the home page again.
VBSEO related or not? Thanks again.

I would say it's vbSEO, because I have never encountered anything like that. And I just posted a new news item on my live site the other day...

Problem persists with vbseo disabled too

Please check your server error logs and make sure you don't have an error 404 happening. Every time a link is clicked to read shownew.php on your site, it redirects to the forum home page. Make sure that in the options your Shownews Filename is set to "shownew"

I ended up upgrading to 3.7.0 VB today and re-uploaded the CES files.
IE shows page not found/error, while FF shows loop error
The logs:
- - [08/May/2008:19:59:20 -0500] "GET /shownews.php?t=20961 HTTP/1.1" 301 - "http://www.talkjesus.com/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9b5) G
I still get a blank page now when going directly to the "blog" forum.

I would expect that the infinite redirect is probably a conflict with vbSEO. The two products must be fighting over who gets to change the thread URL... vbSEO is a paid-on, so I cannot offer support for this issue.
I would recommend making sure that any vbSEO showthread_start or forumdisplay_start plugins, if it has any, have an Execution Order HIGHER than 5. If this doesn't help, I would need admin access to see what your setup is like.

Recently found a bug where sometimes the AJAX Quick Edit on newsdisplay uses the shownews postbit and vice verse. Fixed in demo.

Found a few other bugs recently. Mainly that since adding support for news.php aliases, the preview, previewlength, and more BB-Codes stopped functioning properly.
@chadi, I suspect the solution to the BB-Code issue may also solve your vbSEO issue. Try out the new patch and let me know.

This is a great idea. I wish there was a way to mark any thread from any forum as 'news' and then have it display a list of those 'news' threads. That was really what I was looking for.

Hi all,
i have a problem in the CES Last Thread Title Maximum Displayed Characters.
Ive forget to modify the XML file
<thead>
<tr align="center">
<td class="thead"> </td>
<td class="thead" width="100%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
<td class="thead" width="175" nowrap="nowrap">$vbphrase[last_post]</td>
<td class="thead">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
<td class="thead">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
<if condition="$vboptions[showmoderatorcolumn]">
<td class="thead">$vbphrase[moderator]</td>
</if>
</tr>
</thead>
replacig with this (like the rests of all my forums):
<tr align="center">
<td class="thead"> </td>
<td class="thead" width="70%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
<td class="thead" width="20%">$vbphrase[last_post]</td>
<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
<if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">
<td class="thead" width="0%">$vbphrase[moderator]</td>
</if>
</tr>
Without this replacement in the forum home, the space on the title of post is to small of the others forum, and is not great to look.
Can i reupload the XML without lost the articles that i have already added?
Or i will lost all the articles?
Can i reupload in the plugin system with the "yes" check?
AnyOne can help me?
Sorry for my bad english.

You can edit the template in vBulletin's Style Manager. I'm sure there's a tutorial on this somewhere, but you don't need to be editing any XML files for something like this.

<td class="thead"> </td>
<td class="thead" width="70%" align="$stylevar[left]">$vbphrase[forum]</td>
<td class="thead" width="20%">$vbphrase[last_post]</td>
<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[threads]</td>
<td class="thead" width="5%">$vbphrase[posts]</td>
<if condition="$vboptions['showmoderatorcolumn']">

</if>
</tr>
like all others forum, don't work again :(

I have solved this problem changing in my shownews.php script :
In shownews.php search:
define('THIS_SCRIPT', 'showthread');
and replace with:
define('THIS_SCRIPT', 'showthread2');
Is it a Seo + Ces News conflict, VbSeo assumes that this is showthread page and redirects it to corresponding SEOed URL.
After this, i have added in my SeoCp Custom Rewrite Rule (CRR) the ces news pages that now are showed in html , and all work proprely for now :)

I'm a bit unsure what the problem is that you're having with the news version of forum display. Can you explain this again and provide a link to your news forum?

For everyone's information, this is an integral part of our site. Unless blogs have quite an overhaul when vBulletin 4 goes gold, expect an updated version of this.

In case no one has realized this yet, I've discontinued development on this mod with the release of vB4 Publishing Suite. The CMS has been an acceptable replacement on our site, so we have no need to continue this. As a result, neither I nor anyone from my sites will be able to support any issues users who install this may have.
