Really I don't know. I've checked in your site (seeing browser's status bar) that the url for "Add an Article" is correct. In your php file there is the print_output to the correct template and as you told me this template exists. Actually the problem is the template. If you see at your bowser address bar you're redirecting the "new article" even if you're getting a blank page. If you right click and see the page's code you'll see nothing other than headers... so for some reason your browser can't read correctly the template, or vB dosen't sends correct information to the browser.

Last try even childish question of me. Maybe you've the template there. Could you please open it and see if there is code inside? Maybe something went wrong during imporing the template.

The only that I can say is to try a fresh installation. Nobody reported a problem like this. If you do a new installation, before change any category try to add an article.

Doh!!! Typo problem. I mis-spelled the directory 'editor' as 'editior'. All working OK now. Nice mod, sorry if I caused a panick.

I apologize for my mistake but I've forgotten to include editor's stylesheet in my templates which causes problems on it (eg inactive buttons etc). Also maybe this caused incompatibilities with some browsers.

- in the commercial version there is abiity to enable/disable the downloads audio and video, if I disabled the downloading, can people who are using download manager like DAP download files although the function is disabled?

I think that there is no comparization, not in the meaning that mine is best or something like this, but because these are totally different modules. WebTemplates (as the name says) are mostly templates where you can add anything you want. vbArticles has specific scope which is Rating and Reviews, or Articles, which means that someone posts something for Rating.

No, current version of vbArticles is NOT vbSEO friendly, and there are only very FEW chances to add it in the future. The reason is simple. I can't add third party code in my code, when I'm not sure what this code is doing there. I admit that I'm totally novice in everything about search engine optimazition.

And why vbArticles isn't Free? Believe me the Free version contains nearly 85% of the commercial's version features.

I don't like to give promises on the air or to appear as the super coder, so it's not bad to admit that I'm totally novice on how RSS system is working, so no chance to include something like this at least in the near future.

I think Maria's priority would be to enhance this great product rather than sort out RSS. Remember that RSS is fairly new and a lot of people just don't know what it is. Only three browsers can read RSS at the moment anyway, otherwise you need a Feed Reader.

You would be better off creating your own. Something like this

Unfortunatelly the editor is a commercial one and it's lincence prohibits to be including in a free software. The reason is simple. You can't include for free something that is selling for $99. Finally in a special agreement with it's author I got permission to include it with some limitations like prohibited uploads (only).
As for the pic, are you sure that you've set 777 permissions to directories:
/photos
/tmp
/thumbs (under photos)

So what is the scoop? You don't respond to the threads on your own site that identify problems with the editor on the free version, theres many people that are having trouble with the editor, and now you say you have updated the zip file but yet the version nuber remains the same?

If there are problems with your code and you make corrections you need to update the version numbers. How else can people tell if they have the most current version of the zip file or not??? Should we constantly download it and run comparisons of the files to find out on our own?

Can you count these "bugs" my dear? And then I can count for comparization all new features that I've added in just 3 weeks. The only "bug" which found it was the editor which didn't worked in Mac with FF and finally it was a setting that has to be turn off on the browser. The 2nd "bug" was that some users couldn't uploaded images as they have forgotten to cmod the directories. And finally the 3nd and last bug was because a user have upload the file in wrong directory (in forums/includes instead vbarticles/includes).
So can you tell me which of the above is real bug?

Inside vbarticles directory there is subdirectory "editor". Are you sure that you've uploaded it? I tried to fetch it by direct linking to it:

The game reviews I have are in no special mod, they are simply normal VB Threads. So all i need to be able to do is port the threads into your system. Basically Title, Author(that keeps the memberid for linkback to profiles) and Post body.

Sorry. My eyes stayed at your comment for vbClubs and I didn't seen your question about vbArticles. Well vbNews is a clone of vbArticles. The main difference is that vbNews is targeting to News Publishing that's why it will not have rating, just comments and also it should support subcategories. Also there are no Top Authors.
Most of the parts in main page are configurable by admin. Finally unlike my other modules vbNews can be install in any directory and the main file itself (vbnews.php) can be rename to anything you want (even index.php if you want to use it as your index page).

If you mean that you tried to write html code directly, you can do it only in HTML mode. I dont have the editor open right now, but if I remember well is a checkbox or radio button for it.

The redirection is correct. While you're on approving articles is normal after an approval to redirect to the list of the rest articles awaiting approval.
But to say that clicking on the Navbar you're not redirecting to the main page it's strange. Nobody reported something similar.

A slight correction. The link that is displayed "Forums-> Articles" work but if I manually write vbarticles.php in the url the redirect is performed once more. It appears to be the ? on the link that makes the difference.

In other words vbarticles.php? works vbarticles.php do not work.

When permissions has been set to not allow a user to add articles then the links "Add Articles" & "My Articles" should not be displayed. I realize the user get an error message when clicking on the link but it is not necesary to display the link if the user do not have permission.

"My Articles" should of course be displayed if the member at one time did have permission to add articles and have some.

Another thing. When editing article it is not possible to upload photo. This option is missing.

And more. When admin rejects an article it seems like it is being deleted. How about not deleting it but mark it as rejected and let the user edit it and resubmit. Afterall the user could have put a lot of work into creating the article just to see it deleted maybe on a small thing.

Also if a photo has not been uploaded to the article then I would prefer that the photoframe with the text "No picture" is not displayed. It use space for no apparent purpose.

Sorry if all these things have been covered in the past 24 pages.

I have it installed on a (non-public) test site to see if it suits my needs. So far it is looking good.

As I am testing it the things mentioned above popup.

I just noticed another thing. When I finished installing I added a test article in the category Litterature.

Then I went to the admincp and deleted categories and renamed Litterature to Javascript. Now I just noticed that the category is stored static somewhere.

This mod after so many commercial and free installations for sure is working bug free. But of course there is always the situation something to going wrong with your site's configuration, that's why I can't guarantee anything.

There is always security risks, with or without HTML code my dear friend. Unfortunatelly net is not full of angels and you know it. For anything there is always a risk.
As for your question, no I dont plan to stop using HTML. It products beatiful to view articles, with lots of additionals that you can't do with simple BB code.
If you want to limit your risk, just give permissions to trusted usergroups to post articles.

Maria, i posted a few weeks back about trying your vbarticles on my test site to see how it works with my portal. Let me quote that back for you again.

I installed this mod on my test forum to see how it looks and functions along with vbMates. It installed wonderfully so is the vbMates but i found just one problem with vbArticles. It doesn't wrap itself inside my portal. I'm using MKportal as frontend for my forum. I'm trying to figure out why vbMates wrapped itself beautifully inside MKPortal though. This is what happened: whilst vbMates inherited the header that my portal and forum shares, vbArticles still uses the already reverted vb header and refuses to wrap inside the portal. It opens outside.

I hope to buy the commercial version but i still want to know if it can display correctly inside the portal just like vbmates.

Well let's try to make things simple. What exactly dosen't works well with MkPortal? I know that there is an issue with the popup windows which sometimes are not visible as there is the left side of mkPortal. I changed it for vbMates and now are visible.

But if you mean that you can't see correctly the main and the right side of vbArticles that's strange as I'm using relative width (%) for central blocks and actual for the right (something that is setting by you in admincp).

Sorry, i've had it installed in my localhost for a test so you can't see it.

Here's the situation, i've installed mkportal as a frontend for my vb just like you did with vbadvanced. You have the choice to display your forum outside the portal or inside the portal. I chose to display inside the portal which means my vb forum uses my portal headers and main nav bar. I disabled both the left and right columns when viewing the forum so i'll have more space with it but let the main portal nav bar stays. When i installed vbmates, it showed up perfectly inside the portal with its headers and navbar visible. But with vbarticle, it doesn't show up inside the portal. It uses the old vb logo and the portal nav bar isn't there, just the regular vb navigation. Now that's the problem. I want it to use the portal header and navigation just like vbmates but it won't.

When I was changing the names of my categories I ran into an error. If I for example make a category called Howto's and submit or edit a article in there I receive a database error telling me there's a MySql error regarding an [i]'s[/s] command.

At first I didn't know what the heck happened as I'm pretty good at reading the instructions but my php knowledge unfortunately is not that great, but once I changed the name of that category to Howtos (without the 's at the end) the error disappeared.

Is there a way to work around this?

Unfortunatelly you can't add apostrophe in a category name. At least in this version.

Free version dosen't supports the Editor's choice feature, that's why you're getting a blank page.

vbArticles is using your active style. The only difference is that I've added a special header for Top10 articles which you can turn off in your admicp.

1 Use Avatar instead of user's Photo?
This option doesn't seem to work? It shows "no picture" in stead of the users avatar.

It's a great hack, easy installed and perfectly worked. I think I'm gonna upgrade to the Commercial version soon but how come there's no Field for the Author. I mean, in my site, I use this add-on to add articles from newspaper, articles that weren't written by me so there should be a place for the real Author.
And if hack can have its own Authors, I mean members that are registered only for this hack, it'll be great.

Lovely mod, just have one little problem with it, or well two.

1. None of the buttons in the editor work. They are there, have mouseover effect and all, but nothing happens when I push them. Not that this is the major problem.

2. The major problem is that it doesn't save the article text. Everything gets saved to the database, except the article text. In the message field of the db "<html><head></head><body><html><head></head><body><body><body><html><head></head><body><br /></body></html></body></body></body></html></body></html>" is saved instead of whatever text it is that is written in the article editor.

First: people can keep rating, even when they already have given a rate/review. So they can vote 5 times " excellent " on row if they want.
Second: when a category has a "'" (==> ' <==) in it's name, posting an article will give a vB Dbase error.

As vbNews has much more features than vbArticles, this will be the one which will have an update by having a switch which will let admin to decide if the system will work with:

Comments (reviews) and Rating
Comments only
None of themIn this way you can use all vbNews' features (subcategories, chapters etc), plus Rate and Review of vbArticles.

Even if vbArticles supports pagination, I don't recomment it for long stories (eg Books, Tutorials etc). To do this, I believe that the best is vbNews. I've also post a free version here. More important additions in vbnews:

Supports subcategories
Supports unlimited chapters (every chapter with pagination if its a long one)
Can be used even as main page of your site
Supports sponsors (Banners) per category
You can assign usergroup permissions for adding articles per category
.... and more...Disavandange at this moment. vbNews supports only commenting and not rating.

FYI,

This program has huge security issues due to the use of HTML. I upgraded to a new server and so I did a little experiment on my old one. I was able to crash the server through the HTML capabilities in this program within about 2 minutes. Thus I have removed this program from my site and will not continue use of it.

My Congratulation that you found something that everyone knows in this planet !!! Do you know any script using HTML editor, that in hands of experiant users like you, didn't crashed?... Or do you think that using other type of editors your system is safe? If you think something like that, sorry but you're a dreamer.
The fact my dear, is to wish nobody to give attention to "our" site. If someone wants to crash our servers, can be done it easily. It's not more than 3 weeks, that as I know hackers crashed Microsoft's server.

And finally, you've the choice to give to your users access to simple editor. Giving them access to the full editor, means that you trust them.

If you believe that, then you are naive. A lot of people come here, download plugs, install them and know nothing about how they work. I am sorry you appear to be offended by my post.

and next to that, it is the servers admins responsibility to secure the server. You say html can crash a server, indeed but PHP, CGI are a lot worse and easier to crack servers.

This is the major head ache of every server admin, not only to protect against those wanting to kill your server, but also against those starting to code and 'by accident' kill your server. Not every server kill is because someone wanted it. I saw in the past simple scripts overload a server to crash just by sending mysql in a loop.

No single script is perfect and the more options scripts give, the harder it will be to keep a server secure. That's the price to pay for trying to give better and better programs.

Don't only blame coders, I saw enough servers ran by youngster knowing hardly a line of Linux to host accounts. Today it is easy, a few $, a server package that manages all and they think all is fine... yeah... except that keeping a server secure, is almost a full time job.

I'm sure most coders learn as they go and even experienced coders still find new loopholes.. same for server admins, what seems perfect today might be... hopeless in a few weeks.

Instead just saying it is bad, maybe contact her and share your knowledge, findings, who knows you both can even find a solution to make it better. We all will be better with it.

It wont make it foolproof, but changing it over to vb code would make it 100x more secure. Anyone can download a kiddie script and run it on the html with no knowledge of anything. The coding to utilize VB code is not very difficult for someone who was able to create a script like this, so why don't consider that? If you did, I would give you a 5 star rating.

Now, you hit the point. Do you think that I'm so crazy to work in something new while there is something ready to use? I wrote it many times before (also in posts for vBnews). I wanted to use vB editor. But as long as, the vB's support team told me that I'm breaking the vB's licence by doing it, I had no other chance than to find (and pay for it) another editor.

And as a way to close it for ever. Why you're asking from me to add vB editor while I don't have permission to do it, and you don't contact the Administrators here to allow me add it? Seems that you had problems during uploading files in your server. Check if the file class.rich.php exists at vbarticles/editor/ and its not "0" bytes.

I had the same problem. It depends on the php versions. Now I have 4.4.6 and everything works. I had the problem with php 4.4.2

Ok when i tried to post a article in a catogoey I made it came to "data base error"

copying this and copying that, moving this, moving that is
where mistakes start occuring.. a good thing about a xml
plug in, if it doesnt work, then i just delete it, and be done with it,
but if scripts like yours do not work, then we have to go in

I have this installed on my other site which is 3.6.4 and noticed another issue. After submitting and approving an article everything is good but if I then want to choose to "Set as Editors Choice" I get a blank white page.
Is there a fix for this yet? I get the same problem and it appears that it doesn't change the setting for the article. Meaning, I check the db and find that the article I set to Editors Choice is still set to 0 when it should be set to 1. That tells me this feature is broken.

as the Readme file? It's called "product-vbarticles.xml". Sometimes when I get that error it's due to uploading the xml files in the "Includes" folder instead. Also, click "Over Write" when importing. I've noticed that even if something hasn't been installed for some reason it's better if "Over Write" is still clicked.

I wrote overtop and its all fine, it all works.

I can only seem to only work with 9 Catagory's, I have 12 to 14 Required. What I have right now is set with two 1's and two two's where it says position, and that works as it then puts it in alphabetical order for the two I have with the same position #

And I did buy the module from your site, but I wish to remove the 'Top 5 Authors' part as I add add most of the products then other people review.

By the way this mod for my site is one of the best additions I have made, I have a atv and snowmobile site and I can review from tires to snowmobile suits...

Database is the same, so by just re-importing the product-vbarticles.xml and uploading the files should be ok. But if you don't have any special content, I think that is better to uninstall the previous installation and do a new one.

Sorry, but I didn't got the full meaning of your question. Do you mean that you can't add more than 10 categories?

Can those running this script verify that their Editors Choice feature is working correctly? Mary seems to be avoiding people who bring this up.

When I make a new review, it changes the picture of the last review for some reasson, any idea why this could be? I am running on PHP Version 4.4.7.

First I thought this was the problem because I had 4.4.4 before,

I get a lot of problems while adding pictures, it erase the pictures of my other articles and add the last one I just uploaded to all articles I dont understand what is wrong.


I had the same problem. It depends on the php versions. Now I have 4.4.6 and everything works. I had the problem with php 4.4.2
