What I meant is if I could restrict them to buying say 10am-3pm AND make them hold for a day at least.. Then there is still risk on their part for holding it for a day without getting that quick 5 dollar increase thats possible at open.. I am no stock genious.. I just figured that way cheating would not necessarily always benefit you as much as if you couldnt get that big jump between open and close

The only way would be to hold the buy/sell in a temporary table and have a cron to execute it 15 minutes later, but that gets complicated and kills the purpose

My navbar has the links to Stock Trader and Top Investors, but those pages won't even show up.

I am running vb 3.6.4 and using iCash. I made sure that both money rows show "money" in them to match and still nothing. I just downloaded the program for this 2 days ago, so I don't think I missed any fixes....

I have some members who has Bloomberg terminal at work so of course, 15 minutes delay is what they will exploit. Just look for the big movers and you can make huge profit.

My members request to have historical purchases. I guess this will add another talbe ?

all you have to do is look at the biggest " after hours " movers and buy those up , and sell at the next day's opening. People are going to cheat regardless , let's not get too carried away and handicap the rest of us that aren't.

Do you see a value for cash in hand? If yes, then you play by putting in the stock sympol, the # of shares you wish to purchase, then you click on preview purchase.

If you have nothing for cash in hand, then you have a problem.

You also need to click install to show appreciation to the coder.

I suggest if you have phpadmin to look at the user table and to verify what the money row is. In the case above, he was missing a "b" in vbbux

Zethon, there are reports which are real time and indicates the biggest market movers at the opening of the day and throughout the day. Say you look at report and it shows that MSFT was one of them and went up 5 points. Since our stocks are 15 minutes delayed, as of 9:44 AM it will still show the same value from the day before. So you buy at that old value. At 9:45 AM the market opens for us for the value that was at 9:30 in real time. So right there you make 5 points profit.

The only way, in my opinion, to prevent it would be to make the purchase pending and then execute it 15 minutes later with a cron.

There is an option from the Yahoo feed to grab info labeled as "Last Trade (With Time) Real-Time". I was monitoriing this, and it seems that this gets updated constantly. I'm gonna update the script to use this instead of the one it's been using and see if that solves the problem with the cheat.

I will post an update shortly. Once this is up, can someone please let me know if this resolves the issue. I understand we may have to wait a day for the market to close and open to see.

In theory, if a user tries to buy something early in the morning, it should use the current price and not the previous day's price.

I sincerely doubt that this is real time, as you need to pay for those. I remain convinced that the only way to get around it would be to put the trade on hold and to execute it 15 minutes later, making sure that user still has enough money to do transaction (price variance)

I think you're confusing "getting real time quotes" with "displaying real time quotes". However, you may be right -- I wonder if there's anyway to tell? Let me ask you, does it cost money for you to view real time quotes?

The old field I was using, the price would only update every 10-15 minutes or so. The new field I'm using, the price seems to change by the second. I suspect it is a real-time quote. Streaming the data and polling the data are two very different things.

Let me ask a stupid question. I'm trying to figure out a way to determine if the market is open based on the data of one specific stock. I'm thinking of using the "Last Trade Date" and "Last Trade Time" fields. If a stock hasn't been traded in say the last 30 minutes, is it "safe" to assume the market is closed? Or is it possible a stock may go hours, days or even longer without ever being traded?

I get real time quotes from my broker, or when I was doing daytrading, it cost me a hefty penny to see the market live. I believe they do it like that in order to protect the brokerage firms.

It's very possible for a low volume stock to remain idle (no transactions) while legitimately open for trade.

Market is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 sharp to 4:00 PM EST. And there again it will not be foolproof because of holidays.

you saved the day for me. I was getting lots of emails about site being unaccessible. After your message I disabled the vbadvanced stock trader and all is fine. Yahoo probably closed the feed.

Looks like Yahoo change the subdomain of their feed, which is causing Stock Trader not to work at all. Upload the attached class_stocktrader.php file to your /includes directory, overwriting the existing one, and this should fix the problem.

How would I use template conditional to show in the postbit the $post[ambportval] only for members whose portfolio > 0

I had this installed and it was working great. But now I am receiving intermittent problems which will last for hours at a time. It seems it is unable to retrieve the CSV file from finance.yahoo.com despite the fact that you can browse directly to the url it passed to file() and the CSV file is served up just fine. Only negative thing is it shows 12 decimal spots for the amount of cash on hand.

I need help! After an update on 3.6.8 the Stock Trader cronjob fills the database table with 0 an no depot appears in the "top depot" listing.
But everyone can furthermore manage his own depot, it's just that the toplist isn't showing.

My 'Cash on Hand' at the moment displays as 42.7000000000007.

I use vBCredits as my money system and have the number of decimal places set to zero. Prior to the above display of cash on hand, it displayed an amount with one digit to the right of the decimal. Is there a way to display the cash on hand with no digits to the right of the decimal?

Pressing the Stock-Trader button (or, as it is named on my board the 'FeeEssen Aktienmarkt') I get this amazing message:

In English it means something like: An illegal opperation should be executed! :eek:

In my navbar I performed the changes as listed in the install.txt; in my ACP I granted access to the stock trader to every usergroup, and the error occures either if I give a yes or a no to the 'Turn the vBulletin Stock Trader system on or off'-option.

So, what could be the mistake?

There is an issue with selling with 3.6.8 and vbcredits 1.4rc1. It won't give the user the money from selling. It is random it doesn't happen to me the admin but has happened to at least 3 people with over 100 people using it daily. Also any plans on integrating a search for stock ID? Instead of the user going to msn or yahoo to get the letters that make up the stock there will be a search to get it?

A Major issue here...is if you say you have 100$ ..and you buy US stock scripts...woth 30$, and then you buy Indian or other stocks (it actually lets you outside the US market) ... you actually pay 10$ for a 10 Rupee (25 cents)...is there a way to stop certain stocks or work out a conversion rate for intl stocks or something...

What that means is even though your supposed to be paying 25 cents (10 rupees) per indian share...it takes it as 10$... I wouldnt mind paying someone to help me update and modify the script to serve purpose. Anyone interested let me know :)

I have looked through here trying to see if anyone else has found this bug but i don't see it. if i have missed it please accept my apology for posting it again.. Anyway, one of my members found a bug for selling stocks.

if you sell 1 more stock then you have and put a + sign at the beginning and the end, it will give you the money but not sell your stock.

example, i have 1000 stocks of GE valued at 1.00 each. If i go in and put +1001+ and sell them, it will give me $1000.00 but my stocks do not sell.. So someone could cash out all day long on this and it would be very hard to figure out.

Wasn't sure if there was a fix for this, and if not i just wanted to let you know about it.

I dont want to use yahoo. I just want to add imaginary stock codes.

Then with that stock codes, users can buy those.
And everyday the admin (that's me) will update changes manually and randomly.

And we can create a list of stock codes for those stock codes?

the other problem is, that the stock overview quotes only one stock right, I guess this is some kind of misplaced variable in the code.

I attempted the same thing with no change in results. There is a variable missing in the string, but I can't figure it out. In searching google for the url I found it will work when you add ticker symbols to it... But how do you add the variable, which must be a part of the program?

I did change the link that Stamos2003 provided and it works fine, its been running since March 21 and allows us to get quotes, buy, and sell the stock, shows stock prices, etc.

Stuff we did for it:
1 - reupload the stock trader files,
2 - import the product-stocktrader.xml file and selected overwrite
3 - checked the cron, changed it to run once every hour
4 - changed the url for the feed to the one Stamos2003 provided.

After this its been working fine.

My 'Cash on Hand' at the moment displays as 42.7000000000007.

I use vBCredits as my money system and have the number of decimal places set to zero. Prior to the above display of cash on hand, it displayed an amount with one digit to the right of the decimal. Is there a way to display the cash on hand with no digits to the right of the decimal?

I have read through most of this thread, I have one stock SIRI which shows change updates etc. But any other stock I buy and put in the hack displays () under change and never updates. I set the cron to run once and hr.

I also updated the feed.

Any suggestions?

Contacted the developer at his site and he just played games. We set up a time to fix my issues and when the time came he just ignored me, even after sending several pm's to him. Good thing about yahoo messenger is that you see when the user comes on/off and I always sent the pms when he 1st came online.

Anyways several days passed and he finally pm's me back telling me that he has more important things to do rather than some message board. So I tell him he should have never set up a time-line with me then and that was the end of it, well at least I thought.

I uninstalled his hack and then he had the nerve to come back a week later and pm me via yahoo saying: "Hey Numnuts... I have finished school so now I can look at the hack". He obviously likes to play head games and has problems with concentrating with his responsibilities he takes on.

Because of my experience with him I will NEVER install another one of his hacks again and I strongly warn everybody else with the "Buyer Beware" saying.

It really is a shame I was hoping for a change or two which on his website said was coming in a few days and then never heard off again.

If the changes had come through (such as allowing admins to create stock that could be traded instead of using yahoo stock trade) i was willing to pay for it, or make a sizeable donation - is there anything simular around that is actually working.

In vbtrade.php search for:

Will this work with Canadian Stocks that trade on the TSXV and TSX?

If so I am very interested in getting this setup on my new site.

I would also like a plugin or tweek that allows my members to search by canadian stock symbols, but with them being 3 letters and sometimes 2 it doesn't work well.

I added a list of popular symbols to the search options of the forum, but no luck.

Anyone have this problem? I am more interested in the Vbtrade working with Canadian Stocks.

Anyway, great to have it working! What would be cool is a page that shows all stocks available and their ticker symbols. I like the idea of investing, but havent got any clue about their symbols!

With your question regarding symbols.....For example the companies I would like to use with the Stock Trader are Canadian Stocks.

Their symbols depending on where you get your stock quote from are.

Example for Toronto Stock Exchange Venture = ABC.V
Example for Toronto Stock Exchange = ABC.T

US stocks are differnt symbols and I am hoping that this Mod works for Canadian Companies specially Mining Companies and I would be willing to help develop this mod (i.e. provide sources of information) with the coder.

Find

Add below

Then find
case 'gallery.php':

Installed and working on 3.8.0 but now not so much...

I installed this 2 days ago on my forum and tested it myself, it worked fine... I made a couple of modifications- I set the cron job to run twice per hour - and I turned the postbit stock portfolio info into a hyperlink that would display that user's portfolio if you clicked on it- working well.

Today is the 3rd day and now more members are using it and adding stocks to it... The stocktrader table in the database has almost 400 entries... but today things are acting screwy.

The cron job runs without any errors reported, the 'top portfolio' page opens without any errors- but there are also no portfolios listed... In the postbit eveyone's portfolio value is listed as $0.000 even though many have portfolios with real values, including myself.

When I click on my portfolio (or view another users) it seems to display fine/correctly- I can still buy/sell stocks and lookup symbols... it's just the calculation of portfolio value that isn't working right.

I ran the cron job manually several times but the abportfolio values and gains columbs in the user table are all listed as 0.000 and the gain is all -1 (100%) since the current value is zero.

I didn't make any changes to the code... it wasn't working this morning, then worked for an hour maybe? then went away again...

Any ideas?

Well for whatever the reason it's just not working because there are too many stocks in the stocktrader table in the database... (currently at 412 entries)... when I delete them down to about 300 or less it runs fine... somwhere are 350 entries it just doesn't run at all (or at least it just doesn't do the correct calculations). I don't think it's a bad stock symbol or such because I visually checked the table, it all looks well, and it doesn't matter which stocks I delete, as long as I get that table below a certain size it will work.

I checked the php settings on max execution time and such, but I can't change the settings on my hosting plan at the moment- but in either case ~400 stocks shouldn't really time out I don't think.

I'm wondering if the cron job file can be edited to run a 100 to 200 operations at a time and repeat until its finished? I will look at it but honestly that is probably above my skill level.

How many stocks do the people that have this working have in their databases?

Sorry, a few hours after I made my last post I was rushed to the Hospital and have been out of it for almost a year, going home finally tomorrow in fact. If you're ever back on and willing to check this out again please PM me i will get you whatever data you need- Basically members are still using it just without the listing of other portfolios... individual portfolios work fine. and replace with:

Everything else seems to work, make a backup of the original file just in case.

Just remember when a stock splits anyone holding it will lose money. When Apple split earlier this year a lof of members were upset to lose all that money even though I warned them ahead of time to sell.
