I have to admit... I have not had enough caffeine yet today so I'm not sure what you're asking for. Could you elaborate a bit?

So like if we have:

Forum
-Subforum
--Sub-subforum
---Sub-sub-subforum

Perhaps we could get an option for one feed to include it's subforums?

And perhaps the indentation for subsubs could be a bit more obvious?

So like if we have:

Forum
-Subforum
--Sub-subforum
---Sub-sub-subforum

Perhaps we could get an option for one feed to include it's subforums?That's really outside of the scope of this script. The links provided in the forum listing point to the vBulletin "external.php" file and being able to point to a folder & pick up it's sub-folders is something that I know people keep asking Jelsoft for but, as of yet, I don't think it's high on their priority list (I know I'd like to see that ability as well).

And perhaps the indentation for subsubs could be a bit more obvious?It should already be doing...My Site
Forum
Subform
- Sub-subforum
-- Sub-sub-subforum... so it looks like it's really the first layer deep that you'd like to see indented as well. The very first version actually did that but I didn't think it looked good, at least on my site, because of the sheer volume of dashes that were being shown on the screen. I'll put it on my To Do list to see about perhaps adding an option to the ACP that determine what level the dashes start. Would you want the generic link (the very first link shown at the top for all forums) considered to be the first level or the actual categories be the first level?

Has an updated version been posted? Right now I don't have it active, waiting for the fix.

It's really a question of where do you want to present the link to your visitors. Some sites, IMHO, go overboard and have an RSS link just about everywhere they can squeeze it in and others bury if RSS feeds are not considered a major item for them. At least for me personally I went with just a link in my footer template (eg: scroll to the bottom of the page (http://www.coolscifi.com)). If you come up with a spot of where you'd like the link, and whether you want a graphic link or a text link, just let me know where and I'll walk you through changing the template.

I think it looks just fine where you have it as its visible without being cluttered.

I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me where to put the code so I could do the same :up:

Thanks for your time

You found a bug. :) If CMPS is installed on the site and the page is not being integrated with CMPS then the error occurs. The way the old CMPS 2.x & older integration worked it requires a file to be included and the method I was previously doing always included the file if it found it. Apparently it doesn't like that with CMPS 3.x so now I'm wrapping the file include inside of a conditional. I'll post an updated version this afternoon.

cool! I'm getting the same error. looking forward to the fix. :)

An updated version has been posted. Version 2.3.0 adds a new feature (hence going to 2.3.x instead of continuing the 2.2.x line) and some bug fixes. Please read the change log in post #2 of this thread for details of what has changed since the version you are currently using. In short... new option to automatically show the RSS button in your footer, bug fix for CMPS users, changed a template to remove session IDs.

Has an updated version been posted? Right now I don't have it active, waiting for the fix.Doug, you never got back to me about the depths and what what depths the indicators should start showing. I was hoping to include it in this release but if you let me know what you're thinking I'll put it on the mental To Do list for a future date.

VinylJunky2.3.0 adds a new feature to make life easier... the RSS button can now be automatically shown in your footer template! Try the newest version and if the automatic option does not work for you then your template may be missing the code of HTML the plugin is looking for in which case I'll walk you through it via PM.

Sorry. I got to thinking that sub-sub-subforums were a really bad idea, so I got rid of them all.

Got your PM, thanks. Looks like you're having a problem with external.php not showing you any threads and not a problem with this script. I replied to your PM with a theory of what I think is going on.

Thanks man but i havent got any reply ... any help would appreciateYou did get a reply but, as I mentioned, the problem with a blank page when viewing "external.php" is not related to this script. The file external.php is the stock RSS generator that comes with vBulletin; this script just points to it. I mentioned in one of my PMs one possible reason why you would not see anything when viewing the external.php page but, as I also mentioned, I can't verify if that is the reason or not because when viewing your site as a guest I can not see the forums in question.

There is only so much I can do to help out with a problem that is not related to code I've written/released and without being able to see all parts of the problem. :o

Is this compatible wit NuSEO?Honestly... I have no idea. I use vBSEO on my sites and none of the sites I can try it out on run NuSEO. With vBSEO they offer a developers area for with docs on how developers can integrate their script... if NuSEO has something similar then I'd be more than happy to give it a shot, just point me in the right direction.

I've just upgraded to vBSEO 3.1.0 GOLD on both my sites, and when I try to view the feed page now I get this:

I'm running the last beta 3.0.1e, at Cool Sci-Fi with no issues so I'm surprised that they would've changed something between that beta and releasing it as Gold.

I'll be upgrading the site to 3.1.0 Gold today so I'll check it out.

KW802

Well, it turns out that they cleaned up their function names with the Gold release and in /includes/functions_vbseo.php they renamed "get_forum_info()" to "vbseo_get_forum_info()" to be consistent. That breaks, as you can see, the script.

I'll be posting an update later today at some point to handle it (I need to handle it for both 3.1.x and now older versions) but in the mean time if you've upgraded to vBSEO 3.1.0 Gold and have the error then do a search & replace in your cv_rss_feeds.php file for the changed function name.

Great Mod!

Found a bug, which I think I have fixed:

The 'automatic RSS button in footer' option displays the wrong file if you edit the filename of cv_rss_feeds.php.

To fix, an edit to your cv_ffl_rss_button_in_footer template is required.

Change this:

<a href=\"$vboptions[bburl]/cv_rss_feeds.php\" target=\"_self\" title=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\"><img src=\"$vboptions[bburl]/images/cinvin_forum_feed_listing/rss.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\" style=\"vertical-align: middle\" /></a> -

to this:

<a href=\"$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[cv_ffl_filename]\" target=\"_self\" title=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\"><img src=\"$vboptions[bburl]/images/cinvin_forum_feed_listing/rss.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\" style=\"vertical-align: middle\" /></a> -

Also, it seems that the forum exclusions via Admin CP are still not working as intended. If I enter a single forum ID in the exclusion field, the script correctly blocks it. However if multiple forums are added, separated by commas, they still show in the script. Seems to be an error with the parsing of the excluded forum IDs.

However, there is a work-around:

Create a dummy usergroup, e.g. rssfeedview.
Edit the permissions for this dummy usergroup to match the forums you wish to show in the forum feed listing.
In the admin CP options for the feed listing mod, change the Permissions Usergroup ID to that of your dummy usergroup created above.

The script will now show only the forums you wish to be displayed ;)

Also, it would be great to somehow include the main vBulletin Blog RSS feed (or other various RSS feeds a site may have) on this page as well. I couldn't figure out how to hard code that in to the templates. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

**EDIT** Oops, looks like someone mentioned the footer button bug a few posts before mine. In any case, the fix I provided works ;)

Looks like support is sparse. :( I guess I'll have to uninstall it... again...Considering that it was a holiday week (I prefer spending time with the family & friends, not being online) and that both issues (vBSEO 3.1 gold and the link problems) have been addressed your criticism is a bit unfounded. Heck, Peggy, you yourself posted what the issue is with the links over at vBFAQ. :erm:

Go to this link: http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/cv_rss_feeds.php

Now clcik the RSS button next to Saviour PC Forum...

Look for the link to "Interested in making a website" and click it...

My other question is why doesn't all the content from the post show up in the feed?

Thanks for your quick reply...I appreciate that.

Now clcik the RSS button next to Saviour PC Forum...

Look for the link to "Interested in making a website" and click it...

Do you see the BBCode? That's what I'm talking about...OK, gotcha' now. That is the actual RSS code that is generated by the stock "external.php" script that comes with vBulletin (eg: http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/external.php).

The BB code showing is a good question since the external.php script is supposed to strip out the BB code tags. When vB.com is back up (they're down at the moment for the vB 3.7.x beta upgrade) ask them to take a look at http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/external.php?forumids=54 to see if they would know why your BB codes are not being stripped. The external.php is a stock vBulletin script and the cv_rss_feeds.php script does not have any affect on it.

My other question is why doesn't all the content from the post show up in the feed?By default the amount of the output shown is the same length as the thread preview (when you hover over a thread title in the forum thread listing). That is set in ACP => vBulletin Options => Forum Display Options (forumdisplay) => Length of Thread Preview Text with a default length of 150 characters. If you change that value then take note that it will also affect when you hover over the thread title. If you want just your RSS feeds from external.php to display the entire thread instead of just the thread preview then you can add an option like "fulldesc=1" to the URL. For example, http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/external.php?forumids=54 versus http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/external.php?forumids=54&fulldesc=1. I personally wouldn't give the full feed since then it doesn't give the reader motive to click the link and visit the site since but if you want to change it then modify your "cv_ffl_forum_feed_link" template and change it from...$vboptions[bburl]/external.php<if condition="$forumid">?forumids=$forumid</if>... to ...$vboptions[bburl]/external.php?fulldesc=1<if condition="$forumid">&forumids=$forumid</if> ... instead. Note that besides adding the fulldesc=1 option the "?" in the if condition changes to an ampersand "&" as well.

KW802

I'm not trying to be a wise guy...but if I uninstalled it...how will I get it to show?The links to external.php in your /forums folder is part of vBulletin and comes with it. When you view your RSS feeds the generic link would be http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/external.php. You can then pass parameters into the script by putting them in the URL. For example, if your forum visitors knew that your Other forum had a forum ID of 54 then they could see the RSS feeds only from that forum by using a URL like http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/external.php?forumids=54 directly.

This script (the "CinVin vB Forum Feed Listing") is simply a listing of all of your forums that links to the external.php script that comes with vBulletin. Think of it is as a mini 'site-map' with a quick link to the individual forum RSS feeds.

That is why if you said you were having a problem while viewing cv_rss_feeds.php then it is a problem with this script but if you are seeing strange results while viewing the actual RSS feed that it links to, (eg: http://www.saviour-pc.com/forums/external.php?forumids=54) then it is unrelated to this script so it does nothing more than points to it. For example, when somebody mentioned earlier that when they changed the name of cv_rss_feeds.php in the ACP but the automatic button in the footer didn't change as well then that is a problem that I missed but seeing BB codes in the actual RSS feeds is unrelated to anything with this script (cv_rss_feeds.php) since the feeds are generated by external.php and is a stock vBulletin script.

I try to help out with any questions that people might have with problems/issues related to the stuff I release but when it comes time for stuff like "Why are BB codes showing up in the RSS feeds generated by external.php?" then that is something that the vBulletin support guys should really be handling.

Saviour
11-26-2007, 07:33 PM
Okay...I went to the URL of the external PHP file and they still show up...

I hope you continue to give me support on this...if I can get this issue resolved...I'll be more than happy to reinstall your product...I love it.

Attached is the code from my external.php file. Hopefully you can take a look at it and tell me what the issue is.

Like I said...I'd love to have this installed and working properly.

See the screenshot and my feeds page at http://www.churchmedia.net/CMN/rss_feeds.php.{Scratches my head at this one.} Do you have any other 'sitemap' type hacks installed? That code doesn't appear to be generated from this script and the very first line should be the generic "The Church Media Community" master link (the first line that actually has an RSS button on it). My guess would be that it's picking up a global variable set by a different hack/add-on somewhere and is including it in the output. If you can think of what 'sitemap' hack you might have installed I'll take a look at it to see why there is a conflict, else I'll go back and see what I can to do prevent it generically.

Thanks for the great mod! I got it working with vBseo 3.1 by just changing "get_forum_info();" to "vbseo_get_forum_info();" in the cv_rss_feeds.php file.Exactly. :) The next version will check to see if vbseo_get_forum_info function is defined else use the get_forum_info function for compatibility with the older versions of vBSEO. There haven't been too many vBSEO 3.1 Gold complaints so I've been holding off on releasing the 2.3.1 version to see if there are any other features/fixes I need to put in there.

KW802, you may have missed this question with all the chaos and misunderstanding going on in the last few posts:

Any instructions you can give to include the vBulletin Blog RSS feed into the page?Yep, I missed that one, sorry.

What are your thoughts on how it should be included? A generic link to the blogs if I detect that the blogs are installed or perhaps some type of entry box in the ACP for people to type in additional links manually or a different method? Where do think additional links should appear, above or below the list of forum links?

With so many packages now offering RSS feeds (eg: vBulletin, vBulletin Blogs, vBadvanced Dynamics, PhotoPost Pro & PhotoPost vBGallery, etc.) I not visualizing yet how it should be handled. If you (or anybody else reading this and would like to help out with ideas) can help me get a grasp on the best way of handling it visually I can work on the code. :o

Thank you for such a helpful mod! (installed)

I did find one small issue:

The cv_ffl_forum_link template has several newlines at its end which end up in the link output. These newlines were preventing vBSEO from replacing the forumhome link with the correct URL--but the newlines may cause other problems as well.

A, maybe stupid, question. My forum has some forums that are just for paying members. It's possible to make the feed available just for these members and not for the others?

In theory you can make the page unavailable for certain members, but the feeds themselves are available to anyone. AFAIK there is no RSS permissions system.

In theory you can make the page unavailable for certain members, but the feeds themselves are available to anyone. AFAIK there is no RSS permissions system.Not exactly. The 'external.php' script that comes with vBulletin will use your login credentials if you are logged in else it assumes 'guest' permissions. What that means if you're logged in then you'll see the forums listed on the page and you'll be able to view the RSS feeds if you have access to those forums but if a forum is not viewable to guests and if you're not logged in then the forum will not be listed on the page and you'll get a blank page even if you manually enter the URL to the external.php script with the forumID in question.

To test this... create a forum that only a certain user group can see, add yourself to the new group, and then go to the CinVin vB Forum Feed Listing URL. The new forum you created will be listed and, assuming that you've created some test messages, the RSS feed from external.php will be shown when you click the RSS button. Copy the direct URL to the RSS feed to your clipboard. Now logout and view the vB Forum Feed Listing page again. The new forum will not be listed. Now using the URL in your clipboard try viewing the RSS feed directly. It'll be blank.

Ok! In my forum I'll have two or three forum completely free and all the others available only to paying members. All the paying members will be in a group called "Pay" and all the others will be in a group called "free". All the free users will be able to see just the titles of the threads but not the content.

What you say is that, leaving the things as they are now, the "pay" members will see the complete RSS feed and the free users will se only the free forum feeds and not the others?

Hi, thank you for reply.
Yes, all i got was VbSEO disabled and debug enabled. The feeds are still just blank.It looks like none of your forums are viewable as guest! The problem appears to be with the way your forums & permissions are configured.

What value do you have in the 'user group' option in the ACP for the feed listing? If you remove the value do the feeds show when you are logged in? What is the date of the newest thread in the forum that you are trying to view versus the thread cutoff in your ACP in the external data feeds options??

Great Mod!! :up::up::up:

Good way to Opganize the External RSS Syndication!! ;)

I haven't used that Functionality in my Forums Before, and was wondering if the vBulletin Forums had it!! :p

One Question:

:confused: How can I Control the Time to Refresh the External RSS Results for the Forums?? :confused:

I can See that this Information isn't Refreshed every time a Post is made, so I deduce there's a Time between every Refresh!! :rolleyes: How can I know that Time and How can I set it?? :confused:

One Post Made by a User that Asks this Same Question:

How can I modify external.php update time. It seems that it updates every 20 minutes. I want it to be shorter.

(I think is important to Specify in the Instructions that the "External RSS Syndication" option should be Set to "Yes" to Start obtaining Results with the external.php Script, I noticed that Thabks to the Debug Mode you've provided with this Mod (Very Useful)).

My Best Regards!! ;)

:)

Edit:

I'll try the Option "Cache Lifespan", in the Same Location where you should set to "Yes" the "Enable RSS Syndication" option:

Cache Lifespan

This setting controls how long thread content will be cached (in minutes). Valid settings are 1 to 1440, anything else will be treated as the default value of 60. The higher this value is, the less resources will be used by the External Data Provider system.

My Best Regards!! ;)

The 'automatic RSS button in footer' option displays the wrong file if you edit the filename of cv_rss_feeds.php.

To fix, an edit to your cv_ffl_rss_button_in_footer template is required.

Change this:

<a href=\"$vboptions[bburl]/cv_rss_feeds.php\" target=\"_self\" title=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\"><img src=\"$vboptions[bburl]/images/cinvin_forum_feed_listing/rss.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\" style=\"vertical-align: middle\" /></a> -

to this:

<a href=\"$vboptions[bburl]/$vboptions[cv_ffl_filename]\" target=\"_self\" title=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\"><img src=\"$vboptions[bburl]/images/cinvin_forum_feed_listing/rss.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"$vboptions[hometitle] $vbphrase[cv_ffl_title]\" style=\"vertical-align: middle\" /></a> -

Very Useful!! ;)

Other Question:

I noticed that the external.php detects Only New Threads and Not the Update of them; is there an Option for this Hack and/or the external.php (External RSS) to Detect the Update of the Threads and Report it on the external.php Results?? :confused: (Perhaps the Last Post, and/or the same First Post but of the Updated Threads)!! :rolleyes: :confused:

I Hope that is Possible!! :rolleyes:

My Best Regards!! ;)

- Should work fine on any of the vB 3.6.x & vB 3.7.x series.

- The vBSEO function name was changed with the newer releases (I think 3.0.0 Gold). The manual edit will take care of it and a future update (actually already code, just not packaged) will handle it automatically.

- I have not looked at including the Dynamics feeds but that's a good idea. Since the original version of this script there have been some third party scripts, such as Dynamics and some of the PhotoPost posts, that now offer RSS feeds as well. I'll see what I can do about including something with them.

- If anybody is having a problem with the forums exclusion option, please let me know. The early versions did indeed have a problem but the last few releases should've taken care of it.

We've been looking for a "brand free" mod that will enable us to make specific forums only available as RSS feeds. This one was recommended from another site, so before we get oo much further, I wanted to ask a question for clarity.

We would like to only have "Registered" members be able to select those forums and receive the feeds. Does this mod allow us to restrict the RSS feed access by usergroup?

Thanks ... :)

Ok, decided to try it anyway ... ;)

I'm able to get it to use Yahoo (as an example) and bring in threads that seem to be readable by unregistered users only. When I select a forum that requires a user to be registered, I get this error from Yahoo?

There were some problems while loading your page:

Sorry, we were unable to add this feed. Please try again later.

I also tried a free newsreader program from "Tristana" and essentially I get the same thing. Even though they provide data fields for the feed to enter a username and password to log into our site as a registered user, it also returns an error when trying to read in a forum as a feed.?

Tristana Error:

Error parsing content data channel. Document is either invalid or unsupported.

Any help or guidance as to what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated.

Badger

We would like to only have "Registered" members be able to select those forums and receive the feeds. Does this mod allow us to restrict the RSS feed access by usergroup?Just to clarify... this mod gives you a nicely formatted list of your available RSS feeds. When you click on the RSS button you are taken to the stock vBulletin external.php script. For what you are describing you would need the stock external.php script to be modified (likely could be done with a plugin).

Thanks for the feedback ... :)

I guess I was confused with the Which vBulletin usergroup should be used when displaying the forums? option. I thought it somehow controlled what usergroup could access the forums remotely using RSS feeds, as opposed to it being simply what forums on the list they could see.

I'm a little green on this RSS stuff. I'm still stuck in the 60's with Fortran programming background. :D

I assume that the reason any of the remote RSS feed agents only see posts that are available to Un-Registered Guests, is for the same reason? These agents can't read any post that is requires the user to be registered?

Thanks... :)

Badger

Edit: BTW, do you do custom paid contract work, such as modifying the External.php to do what we need?

I guess I was confused with the Which vBulletin usergroup should be used when displaying the forums? option. I thought it somehow controlled what usergroup could access the forums remotely using RSS feeds, as opposed to it being simply what forums on the list they could see.In hindsight... yeah, I could see how that description could be interpreted a few different ways. That option was added as a result of some confusion surrounding forums that guests aren't allowed to see. For example, if you had a forum named "Staff Only" and is only available to your moderators then when your moderators went to the cv_rss_feeds.php page they would see that forum listed. The concern and confusion was that that the forum isn't supposed to be shown to everybody. In reality, though, when a non-moderator went to cv_rss_feeds.php then the "Staff Only" forum would not be listed since they didn't have access to the forum. To make life a bit easier the option was added so that by using a usergroup 'model' for the listing then everybody would see the exact same forums listed regardless of what their permissions really were.

I'm a little green on this RSS stuff. I'm still stuck in the 60's with Fortran programming background. :DI missed fortran; I started with COBOL on a UniSys mainframe back in the 80's. Ah, disc packs, tape reels, greenbar bursters... those were the days.

I assume that the reason any of the remote RSS feed agents only see posts that are available to Un-Registered Guests, is for the same reason? These agents can't read any post that is requires the user to be registered?I'll give a hesitant 'yes' to that one. The script 'external.php' that comes with vBulletin (and is what actually generates the RSS feed) will use the user's permission if they are logged in else 'guest' permissions will be used. That means if your moderator goes to http://www.yoursite.com/forums/external.php then they will see posts from all forums that they have access to, including the "Staff Only" forum, but if a non-moderator or somebody who is not logged in goes to the same URL then they won't see the "Staff Only" posts.

Edit: BTW, do you do custom paid contract work, such as modifying the External.php to do what we need?I do some odd jobs but not a lot these days (the day job takes precedence). But, if I'm understanding your other post correctly, a think a plugin might handle what you're looking for. If I am interpreting it correctly you have a forum that might be named "Special Forum" that several usergroup are allowed to post into but when the RSS feed is generated for that forum then only threads from usergroup X should be shown. Is that what you're after?

BadgerDog
03-13-2008, 09:29 PM

I've set it to "blank" on my system. When I view it as a Usergroup 2 (Registered Member) the display of the mod's RSS pae looks exactly the same as when I view it as a Usergroup 1 (Un-registered Guest), yet their should be forums that the "guest" does not see at all? Am I still missunderstanding this function. Blank (or 0) should pick up the more restricted "Guest" privileges and not display those forums?

I'll give a hesitant 'yes' to that one. The script 'external.php' that comes with vBulletin (and is what actually generates the RSS feed) will use the user's permission if they are logged in else 'guest' permissions will be used. I couldn't make it work that way directly out of the box using either the Tristana reader or Yahoo. I searched around here and found this:

External Data Provider Usergroup/Cookie Setting 2.2 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=127062)

Once I installed that mod along side yours, I was able to read forums the way you describe, that previously gave me the error above with Tristana that require Registered(Usergroup 2) access. I still get the same error using Yahoo though. Tristana permits someone using their client to put in a username and password for each feed if required, but that function didn't I(and still doesn't) seem to make any difference in controlling whether it can open up and get access to any feed. This additional mod seems to do that through the "cookie" thing.

In I do some odd jobs but not a lot these days (the day job takes precedence).

Close... :D

I know I'm explaining my needs badly, but in simple terms....

I would like our various members to have the convenience of using RSS, Yahoo, or the other agents you supported, to stay remotely in contact with new posts made on our site, BUT without having to go there in log in. I assume that's what RSS feeds are designed to do... a "push" kind of approach to data?

Now, here's the catch ... I'd like them to have EXACTLY the same access permissions to view forums and posts remotely using whatever agent they choose, as they would have if they had logged on directly.

Is that even possible?

Thanks again for your support and feedback ... much appreciated. :up:

Badger

Thought the same thing but as soon as it was uninsulated my subscription system worked. Might have just been a bug or another conflict that got cleared up when I removed it.

Hey everyone I have two questions:

1. Is there any way to have the forum feed still show regardless of group permissions?

2. Can I limit the number of characters summarized in the RSS Feed?

I actually asked this same question in CinVin's forums and never received an answer.

why not just add the ads in the template where you edit the info on the template page?

RSS feeds are not generated via templates.. Rss feeds from our domain has to be added to feedburner account, since we are using cinvin feeds for a long time.
It has become a requirement now :)

I must've been a while since I don't remember that one but just edit your cv_ffl_forum_feed_link and remove the HTML comment tags.

Couple of things to report.
First, there is a bug, running with 3.7.2, when tuning on the vBSEO option within this mod's options causing a crash when accessing cv_rss_feeds.php:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_forum_info() in /home/sites/avforums/public_html/forums/cv_rss_feeds.php on line 195

And secondly I want to display an RSS button right justified to the right of the forum title in forumdisplay. I got it working nearly correctly adding the following plugin:
forumdisplay_complete
if ($vbulletin->options['cv_ffl_permissions_usergroupid']) {
$forumperms = $foruminfo['permissions'][$vbulletin->options['cv_ffl_permissions_usergroupid']];
} else {
$forumperms = $vbulletin->userinfo['forumpermissions'][$foruminfo['forumid']];
}

if ( (!($forumperms & $vbulletin->bf_ugp_forumpermissions['canview']) AND !$vbulletin->options['showprivateforums']) OR (!$foruminfo['displayorder']) OR !($foruminfo['options'] & $vbulletin->bf_misc_forumoptions['active']) OR ($foruminfo['link'] AND !$vbulletin->options['cv_ffl_show_linked'] AND !$forum['nametitle']) OR ($excluded_forums AND (in_array($foruminfo['forumid'],$excluded_forums))) ) {
$forumrss = "";
} else {
$forumrss = "<a style='float:right' rel='nofollow' href='http://www.avforums.com/forums/external.php?forumids=" . $foruminfo['forumid'] . "' title='" . $foruminfo['title'] . "'><img src='http://www.avforums.com/forums/images/cinvin_forum_feed_listing/rss.gif' border='0' alt='" . $foruminfo['title'] . "' /></a>";
}

and edited the forumdisplay template, changing
<!-- / controls above thread list -->
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center" style="border-bottom-width:0px">
<tr>
<td class="tcat" width="100%">$vbphrase[threads_in_forum]<span class="normal"> : $foruminfo[title] </span></td>

to
<!-- / controls above thread list -->
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0" width="100%" align="center" style="border-bottom-width:0px">
<tr>
<td class="tcat" width="100%">$forumrss $vbphrase[threads_in_forum]<span class="normal"> : $foruminfo[title] </span></td>

And you can see it working on www.avforums.com.
However for those forums in the exclude list in the options screen for this mod are still being included. Can anyone help refine this code, please?

I know this is an old hack, but I'm just posting to say it's working perfectly with 3.7.0. I'll be upgrading the forum software to the latest patch soonish, but I assume it'll work fine with other 3.7.x versions.

Spinball: What version of vBSEO are you using? Along the way vBSEO changed the name of a function which used to cause that error.

BeakerUK: It should work fine with all of the vB versions up the current vB 3.7.x series. I do not have an installation of vB 3.8 Beta installed yet so I can not verify that one at this time but I can verify that it works fine with 3.7.3 as-is.

Added to the Wish List. :)

Well, everyone who creates a feedburner feed has to manually approve the name. In my mind it would be a simple substitution. If the user adds a feedburner URL for a specific forum use that. If not, use the autogenerated one.

In my case I have one FeedBurner feed for the main external.php RSS 2.0 feed. Instead of www.myforum.com/forum/external.php I want it to use www.feedburner.com/MyFeedName

I have not played with it yet (last night was spent reading up on it) but it appears that a client can pass a user's name & password to to feedburner along with the name & URL of a new feed to burn. If that is true,then I've got a few ideas up my sleeve.

Wow... that's hot.

The biggest draw is actually Google's FeedProxy since it allows us to insert Google Ads inside our feeds. I think the 2 are related somehow.

You can use feedburner to display google ads in your feeds. Google owns Feedburner.

Anticipating future updates to this mod...especially the feedburner stuff.

Yes, I'd like a way to include adsense ads, as well.

KW802

After AyeCapn suggested FeedBurner I checked it out a bit.

The problem is FeedBurner does not allow dynamic feeds so every forum (or other RSS source on your site) needs to pre-configured as a FeedBurner channel first. The FeedBurner API allows remote creation of the channels which is a good thing. But even with that there is no clean way of mapping the the vB forums to the newly created FeedBurner channels. There are two different possible mapping methods I'm exploring but most likely it won't be in the next release. The next release is shaping up to be a maintenance release with some tweaks done but not the FeedBurner stuff yet.

I was looking for this awhile back and now had the need again and finally added it.

UIQarena,

An updated version is available here....

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=204955

Please upgrade to that version and then after you install that version, turn on the vBSEO option in the ACP.

ACP => vBulletin Options => CinVin Forum Feed Listing => vBSEO Installed

Please let me know in the other thread then if that takes care of the problem for you. If it doesn't, let me know that also so I can figure it out. :)

if you get this error in domain.com/cv_rss_feeds.php , all forums that get this error is using vbseo 3.5 above, since vbseo 3.5 above the folder is changed to /vbseo folder

so to fix it, open cv_rss_feeds.php file,

find this

include_once './includes/functions_vbseo.php';

replace with this

include_once './vbseo/includes/functions_vbseo.php';

done, it will fix the error
