VERSION HISTORY

1.6.2 - stable
[+] Added recognition for Windows 7-based user agents.

1.6.1 - stable
[+] The navbar link is now shown only to those who can access the statistics.

1.6.0 - stable
[+] Added two new modules: Referrer Statistics Age & Gender Demographics
[+] Added Google Chrome recognition (this includes a matching icon).
[+] Added Setting to control whether top threads & forums data is gathered from forums where posts are not counted towards user post counts.
[+] Updated ip to country databases to the most recent ones.
[F] Corrected a few phrasing bugs and phrased things that were not phrased in 1.5.2.

1.5.2 - stable
[+] Added a few more translations (thanks to those who submitted these).
[+] Fixed a few bugs that were mentioned for 1.5.1.

1.5.1 - stable
[+] Added option to globally enable / disable any stats modules.
[+] Fixed bug with some staff being counted twice.
[+] All numbers are now nicely formatted.

1.5.0 - stable
[+] No more template edits, just upload the files and the product and you're ready to go.
[+] vBulletin 3.5.x - 3.8.x compatible.

1.4.4 - stable
[+] Referrering Sites now have a JS and an XML feed capability.
[+] Added a better firefox icon into the icon database.
[F] Fixed a couple of minor bugs.

1.4.3 - stable
[+] The hack now respects vBulletin's "Show Active Users" setting.
[+] The hack is now valid XHTML (all templates must be reverted).

1.4.2 - stable
[+] Corrected a bug, which caused incorrect number of moderators to be displayed.
[+] gb.gif renamed to uk.gif.

1.4.1 - stable
[+] The front page has been revised, and it now loads four times as fast regardless of the size of your database.
[+] The ip database has been updated to the revision of October 18, 2006.
[+] The flag database has been updated to the revision of October 18, 2006.
[+] Referrer statistics hack, if installed, is now detected automatically. No configuration required.
[+] Added an option to specify a custom board creation date, if not reflected correctly by the joindate of a user with lowest userid.

[+] The system is now cross-compatible with both vBulletin 3.5 and 3.6.
[+] The ip database has been updated to the revision of August 30, 2006.
[+] A variety of code optimizations and template corrections have been done.
[+] To keep statistics legible, the engine now only tracks the major and the minor browser versions. X.Y.Z.E is now stripped to become X.Y.

1.3.2 - stable
[+] Since more browsers support cookies than ajax, screendepth/screenresolution tracking is now done via cookies.
[+] One less query per page - e.g. now it's only one query per page.
[+] Statistics are now updated every 15 minutes rather than every hour.
[F] Fixed faulty count in cron and in region stats screen.
[F] Fixed bug which prevented the cron from being created in some cases.
[F] Fixed minor bugs which caused errors of the E_NOTICE level.

1.3.1 - stable
[F] Fixed AJAX coding error, which used synchronous ajax instead of asynchronous, evidently causing higher load.
[F] Fixed WOL error that was caused by AJAX stats update and that made it look like everyone is browsing the stats.
[F] Fixed a query in update cron.

1.3.0 - stable
[+] Yay, no more file edits! :)
[+] No more multiple queries. The hack now takes up a maximum of two (2) queries per page in contemporary browsers, and one (1) query in non-javascript browsers.
[+] New vBulletin Option: Statistics can be configured either numerically or alphabetically.
[+] Since Opera is updated way too often, the engine, from now on, will only identify the primary version marker (7,8,9 as opposed to 7.01, 7.02, 7.21, 8.01 etc).
[+] Templates and phrases are now in their own separate group.
[F] Eliminated a bug which prevented bot identification from working properly.

1.2.8 - beta
[+] Removed 5 queries during the stats recording.
[+] Countries mapped to valid cia abbreviations and the countrybit template has been updated.
[+] Added missing Fiji flag (Thanks to firstrebel!)

[F] Eliminated the posts per day bug.
[F] Renamed "gb.gif" to "uk.gif"
[F] Renamed "Oceania" region to "Australia and Oceania".
[F] Only threads and forums to which the user has permissions are displayed in top threads and forums.

FAQ

Q: How do I install the product XML?
A: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/plugin_system

Q: Stats do not get updated.
A: Stats are updated once every 15 minutes (not instantly).

Q: Can I limit viewing of the stats to certain usergroups?
A: Yes. Go to vBulletin Options -> psiStats 2006 and edit that.

Q: It's not tracking full referrer URLs, only domains.
A: That's how it is designed. It will not be changed.

Q: A country flag is missing.
A: There are some missing flags, yes. If you have a flag icon of the same format, it'll be much appreciated if you can send it to me.

Q: I get a LOCK TABLES error...
A: Make sure you have set proper permissions for the MySQL user. To find out how to set MySQL permissions, contact your hosting provider.

Q: This and that isn't working properly...
A: Shh! First, make sure that you have the latest version installed, and doble check that you have done all the steps correctly. If you are 100% sure in both, post your problem.

Question to everyone:

On some large boards, the browser stats parts get very large due to the fact that there is a lot of different browser versions. What approach would you guys recommend to shorten that list?

Example of a long list: http://waw-df.com/forum/psistats.php

Edit:

I changed it not to track more than the major and the minor versions. E.g., if a version if X.Y.Z, it'll only track X.Y. To reset browser stats, run this query:

DELETE FROM `psistats_data` WHERE `ctype` = 'browser'

Awesome mod. Can I change the update interval? It can become resource intensive for fairly large boards therefore I'd like to increase the update time.. Is it possible?

Awesome mod. Can I change the update interval? It can become resource intensive for fairly large boards therefore I'd like to increase the update time.. Is it possible?

The smaller the update time, the less is the load. :) 15 minutes is the optimal delay for large boards esspecially.

For those running php portals and want this in the drop down quick links, just add <tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="/forums/psistats.php$session[sessionurl_q]">$vbphrase[psistats_link]</a></td></tr> underneath <tr><td class="vbmenu_option"><a href="member.php?$session[sessionurl]u=$bbuserinfo[userid]">$vbphrase[my_profile]</a></td></tr> in your p_block_navbar.....works like a champ.

I've installed this and everything seems to be working but in "Countries:"

I am playing around with this on my test site and receive this when I go to 'Referring Stats Statistics' in the vBulleting Options part of the ADMINCP

The referring sites database is empty.

Also, when going to the statistics, it seems that only the first row of links work, the rest of them shows NO data.

Using 3.5.4 and 3.6 on my test sites.

Great hack btw

It may report some countries incorrectly, there's nothing that can be done about it. The most likely cause is that the IP traces to North America - but the party responsible for it is your ISP.

I get this error

Please make sure that you have LOCK and UNLOCK permission turned on for your mysql user. If you don't know how to check that, please contact your hosting provider.

I own my server and have no problems with LOCK / UNLOCK...what I meant when I said, "I will wait" is for the 15 minute interval to pass. :D

It counts people that have IS_MODERATOR permission turned on in their usergroup as supermoderators (except admins, of course).

Okay, I have found some features not working.

I've installed this mod and ran the cron task manually a couple of times to see if I can get the stats to show up when going to the Site Statistics link in the navbar quick links.

It shows the Forum Stats, and Top Threads and Forums.....however, when I click on the other links to show me Display Colors and Resolutions or Countries and Regions, etc....I don't get any stats coming back to me.

Any help on this is greatly appreciated. ;)

Nice script apart from the UK resolving problem.

I've been monitoring my site most of the evening, and know most of the users that have been online, using the site are from the UK. Yet not once as their been any sign of a UK flag.:confused:

I have seen similar scripts to this before, and even they put me in the US. lol I wouldn't mind being in San Francisco with the current horrid weather here in the UK! :D

That shows the country as "GB" and I looked in your database_country.php file and noticed that there is a entry for the "UK" but not for "GB" - so I made a new entry:

"GB" => array("United Kingdom", "Europe", "London", "Pound Sterling", "uk")

And now it looks as if it is correctly distinguishing UK visitors?

Very nice job love the program, and the one question I have is that this only shows up in the Quick Links area, is there a way to show the stats on the front end in the forums. For give me, but I sort of learning as a go here and cannot seem to find a way to do this.

I commend you for writing great docs for the install of this program, and I was very impressed with the check boxes, very professional looking.

I went in and found that my cron task is working as it just ran on it's own about 5 mins from my posting of this. Also looked to see that all the psiStats plugins were checked as Active.

Just can't get this to show the browsers, etc.....

Wow, I was impressed that ths could be put on the main page, now I have to find out how to do this. Thanks for sharing your site for us to view.

Dennis

You can't put it on the main page, not without using up unnecessary resources for people who don't want to see the stats. His link in no different that the default setup.

Thanks in advance

Dennis

I have the same problem, so my vBulletin must be wrong too. lol I am running 3.5.5 on my dev site. Cron and plugins are both functioning correctly.

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but will the cron appear in the schedule tasks manager? I ask, because I don't have any scheduled tasks that run off of the psistats_update.php file in there.

my stadard stats from the forum itself are working e.g. top threads, forums topics etc and members, online etc.

However stuff that seems to look at new stored data from elsewhere e.g. countries, browsers, colours, screen etc is all empty with no results. Have I missed something? I have installed it three times now in case something g corrupt somewhere? What I already have makes this an excellent hack but i'd like to have it all

Absurd. If template edits were done correctly, the hack shows up under quick links. If it does not show up, you can logically conclude that template edits were not done correctly.

The fact is, this works on an unhacked vBulletin version 3.6.0/3.6.1. If it doesn't work that it's either you did something wrong, or your vBulletin is too heavily modified and some hack is conflicting with this one.

For example, this site:
http://www.brassreview.com/forums/psistats.php (to the admin of the site: I looked this up via google, if you are not ok with the link having been posted, please let me know).
does not even have a quick links. which makes it impossible for a link to the hack to show up under a quick links that does not even exist. Use common sense to determine what the problem is...

HI all, I have this hack working nicelt on my vBulletin 3.6.2. The one things the whole hack doesn't seem to mention is what is the actual stats showing me. i.e. for country and region stats, it this the numbers for the current month? Is it overall, it is accumulative until I reset it etc etc.

Also how is that decision made. Is is via the IP of the user when logged in, is it from any visitor via their local IP, is it a resolution of the ISP?

USA always wins out in stats packages due to the generic .com and we all know not everyone with a .com ending is in the USA. The same with .net. If it is users IP then this is somewhat better but if someone can help me understand the actual data this would be great.

Many thanks :)

OK, thanks.

As a suggestion for the future it would be great to have a few options from the top of the page when viewing. e.g. Cummulative stats as standard, quarterly option, and monthly option for both country, referral and top forums and posts would be excellent. I suppose you could work that out from a data datestamp somewhere that we store in the logs or in a table in the database.

Keep up the good work :)

As for the lock issue, why not fix it?

Because many hosts including mine don't allow for such things (it also runs mysql 4.0.16). Lock and unlock produce loads (even if minute) on sql servers. I share a server with dozens of other clients so performance is a top concern.

Why not instead find another way that does not require people to contact their host to give them high level rights?

Not sure why you need to use locking in the form you do for this type of database but seeing how many of us can not have that access (no everyone runs their own mysql server) and almost no other add on here uses this method, I would think you would choose a different way to make this compatible.

and I am going to quote mysql.com because I like to back up my statements with evidence ;)

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/lock-tables.html

Normally, you do not need to lock tables, because all single UPDATE statements are atomic; no other thread can interfere with any other currently executing SQL statement. However, there are a few cases when locking tables may provide an advantage:

If you are going to run many operations on a set of MyISAM tables, it is much faster to lock the tables you are going to use. Locking MyISAM tables speeds up inserting, updating, or deleting on them. The downside is that no thread can update a READ-locked table (including the one holding the lock) and no thread can access a WRITE-locked table other than the one holding the lock.
The reason some MyISAM operations are faster under LOCK TABLES is that MySQL does not flush the key cache for the locked tables until UNLOCK TABLES is called. Normally, the key cache is flushed after each SQL statement.
If you are using a storage engine in MySQL that does not support transactions, you must use LOCK TABLES if you want to ensure that no other thread comes between a SELECT and an UPDATE. The example shown here requires LOCK TABLES to execute safely:

LOCK TABLES trans READ, customer WRITE;
SELECT SUM(value) FROM trans WHERE customer_id=some_id;
UPDATE customer
SET total_value=sum_from_previous_statement
WHERE customer_id=some_id;
UNLOCK TABLES;
Without LOCK TABLES, it is possible that another thread might insert a new row in the trans table between execution of the SELECT and UPDATE statements.
You can avoid using LOCK TABLES in many cases by using relative updates (UPDATE customer SET value=value+new_value) or the LAST_INSERT_ID() function. See Section 1.9.5.3, “Transactions and Atomic Operations”.
You can also avoid locking tables in some cases by using the user-level advisory lock functions GET_LOCK() and RELEASE_LOCK(). These locks are saved in a hash table in the server and implemented with pthread_mutex_lock() and pthread_mutex_unlock() for high speed. See Section 12.9.4, “Miscellaneous Functions”.

When I check my DB tables, all are OK, except:
error : Can't find file: 'psistats_cache.MYI' (errno: 2)

Is there anyway to fix this?

Nevermind, already posted.

Keeps happening. I had to restore my DB twice today.

Restoring database won't help. The backup might already have a fault in it. You need to actually fix the table, dude. Contact your hosting provider about it. If you hosting provider does not help... drop the table, then overwrite product XML, which will restore it.

Once more sort of bug.
In psistats.php
we have (line 259):
if ($user['userid'] == NUMBER_ONE)

I think this is not a good one.
I imported my forum from phpBB to VB.
And user NUMBER ONE was created when I installed VB engine for the first time.
But user number one from phpBB is not user #1 for now on my new VB forum.
So the date: Forum Began is not displayed correctly.

Why not to add to PSI configuration page such option as:
User's ID number first registered on your forums

P.S.
I found this one in psistats.php
define('THIS_SCRIPT', 'psistats');^M
define('ONE_DAY', 86400);^M
define('ONE_MONTH', 2629743.83);^M
define('NUMBER_ONE', 5);^M
define('MODERATOR_GROUP', 7);^M

Why not to and some note about this one in Documenatation? :)

I like this mod a lot, it's definitely a keeper. And the support is very good too. Much appreciated.

A question, what is new in this new upgrade?

And a wish list...

The single most important feature I would like to see is complete urls for referrals, not just domain name urls. It's important to see what page they came from. That would be THE feature to have!

Also nice would be to be able to have running stats for the week, month, and be able to check previous days.

Any way to log length of time each visitor stayed, and what the exist page was when they left?

All that would be really useful too, but if you can only do one, I'd like to see complete referring urls!

Thanks a lot for a terrific mod!

Just discovered this mod and it is awesome. I installed with no problems but I am not getting the correct read on the Staff information.

I have: (1) Admin, (2) Moderators, (2,208) Registered Users, (46) Custom usergroup 'Captains Club' members, 6 custom 'Triumph Dealer' members.

But these show up as:
Members: 2,212
Staff: 46 (1 Admin, 2 s-mods, 43 mods)

Any ideas where those 43 mods came from? The (2) Moderators and the Admin (me) are also 'Captains Club' Members which would make the total number, but I don't know why a special usergroup that is not a Staff usergroup position would show up as Staff. Can custom usergroup designations be added to the code? It would be great if the custom user group name and total members were listed after the staff. Thanks for any help.

Everything seems to be working great except the listing of staff (s-mods and moderators) and the "Active/Non-Active/Activity level" counters. On both sites that I have installed the psistats today it is showing no activity and all as inactive. This is obviously not correct as several members have been on and posted today. I've attached jpg's of the stat screens for both sites.

ncangler
11-26-2006, 03:07 AM
Okay I found where I had each of the moderators setup as super moderators by having one button activated in the usergroup setting. They are now just moderators and are not showing up as s-mods anymore. I also turned off the "Viewable on Show Groups" for the large usergroup "Registered Users". That apparently has enabled the activity statistics to start working now. Only thing left is to figure out why the custom usergroup Captains Club members are showing up as Moderators. :)

That's because 0 does not disable the cutoff. In fact, it cuts off all users after 0 seconds. The script uses vbulletin userstats to retrieve that information so it cannot be incorrect.

I have an issue with the stats and I'm interested to see if anyone has a solution. The option for Style Usage does not update based on the style switcher drop down box on the forum. The only way to get the data updated is to switch the style being used via the User CP. I currently have three options open to me.

* Leave it as it is
* Remove the style usage option from the stats page
* Remove the drop down box on the forums and force people to change via UserCP

Ideally I'd like a fourth option which is some kind of update to fix this minor flaw.

You can see what I am talking about here: http://azhforum.co.uk/psistats.php?do=styles

Any suggestions?

* Remove the style usage option from the stats page
* Remove the drop down box on the forums and force people to change via UserCP

Ideally I'd like a fourth option which is some kind of update to fix this minor flaw.

You can see what I am talking about here: http://azhforum.co.uk/psistats.php?do=styles

Any suggestions?

Great hack, by the way. :D

The reason it is not updated is because when user chooses a style using the switcher, it is not saved to his or her account. It is only stored in his or her cookie. The only way to fix this would be to have vBulletin save the style to database, but I am not sure that alterting vBulletin's behavior is the best way to go in this case.

If you want, remove the quick chooser by editing the footer template.

What does it show on showgroups.php? What about the admincp show all moderators page?

Good call...........even though i had removed some mods they still seemed to be there in the Show All.......also it was counting a admin or 2

Thanks

Yeah, I kinda figured out the reason for it, I was just hoping for a fix. Thanks anyway. :classic:

I don't think that is the best way to go. I guess I'll just remove the Style statistics option from psi-stats.

Anthony, the error ist fixed for me now, thanks for your work.

But there's just one problem left, which has been written down already: The amount of mods and admins doesn't fit to my system-configuration. I got 7 mods (and nobody else has mod-statusfor sure), but the stats tell me that I have 38 mods in my system. :o

Are any of these mods added to more than one forum?
What does it show on the admincp "Show All Moderators" page?

Yep, one mod has more forums to moderate.

It shows 9 Mods (actually I got 7 mods and 2 admins (forgot to say, sorry).

What happened was vbportal installed a new theme so I had to add the codes to the new theme (3 minutes) and all is well again. Luckily the documentation for this mod is very good and the readme file was helpful.

Now I just got a email for a upgrade of this mod!

If I'm not having any probs is there any hurry to upgrade?

Any new features or just big fixes?

thx

Bugfixes, but the upgrade is very easy. To see what's changed, see the changelog in the first post.
To upgrade, overwrite product xml and then revert the psistats template if you have modified them. Then re-upload psistats.php. Temlate modifications do not need to be reapplied.

I created a forum for suggestions here:
http://visionscripts.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=80

And a bug tracking project here:
http://visionscripts.com/forum/bugtracker.php?s=&do=listbugs&bugtracker_projectid=11

Please post your feature request in that forum.
Once again, this modification is not going to be commercial, it's just that this is a large modification and it's going to be easier to keep track of features and bugs if there is a separate place for it. :)

Any chance of getting the ability to create a feed out of the site referrers? I want to be able to place a list of top referring sites on other pages, like forum home.

To put it in simplest terms, what I'm asking for is an external.php for the referring sites page in psistats.

I suppose it could easily be done with javascript and rss. Javascript would probably be easier to add to a page than rss would be.

I would like it if I could choose how many items the feed would have. Would be nice if I could also manipulate the format a bit. For instance, in some cases I may want to have one long column with all the site referrers, but at other times I may want to display it a little bit differently, maybe showing two columns containing an ordered list of all the referring sites.

All this combined would basically be creating something which I could use to trade traffic, just like a toplist. It seems like psistats is only steps away from having this functionality.

Very minor typo.

In the PSI ACP, you have the date format for the date of forum creation as dd/mm/yyyy format, however it appears to be mm/dd/yyyy as the other way doesn't work.

So you would prefer a javascript or and xml feed, right? Because RSS feed is for RSS newsfeeds, not for traffic trade.

You need to check your error_log files wherever on your server and it's pretty early isn't it to be upgrading to a recent PHP? How many other things are broken too is my question? LOL

I have installed this mod, and really like it.

One thing I would like to change is this:

In the Top threads and posts section, rather than show the All Time leaders, I'd love to show the most popular threads and posts from the last 24 hours.

I would imagine this would require a WHERE clause added here:

// top threads by views
$getthreads = $db->query_read("
SELECT threadid, title, views
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread
WHERE visible = 1
AND forumid NOT IN (0$limitfids)
ORDER BY views DESC
LIMIT " . $vbulletin->options['psistats_toptflimit'] . "
");

and here:

// top threads by replies
$getthreads = $db->query_read("
SELECT threadid, title, replycount
FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread
WHERE visible = 1
AND replycount > 0
AND forumid NOT IN (0$limitfids)
ORDER BY replycount DESC
LIMIT " . $vbulletin->options['psistats_toptflimit'] . "
");

but I am not familar enough with SQL to do this.

Im guessing it's something close to this:

WHERE lastpost >= (curdate() - 24*60)

but that produces an error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

akanevsky
12-05-2006, 05:58 PM
It would be an:
AND lastpost >= " . TIMENOW - 86400 . "
Add it right under the row that says WHERE.
