We've been doing it for a while - its painful, it takes a long time and anyone who joins during "newsletter time" is subject to several days wait in order to activate their account.
We tried some of the hacks here on vB.org - they aren't a viable solution for us.
Do you send newsletters? If so, what type of solution do you use in order to send it, so it doesn't disrupt your forums function?
I send 160K a month...I'd like a better process...suggestions?

Well, non of the hacks here at vb.org for newsletters worked for me, they were just too buggy or couldnt complish what I expected them to do. At the moment, we create the html outside vb.
If you find a good tool for doing this online/vb let me know!

This would be very nice to have!
News letters(closest thing i can think of) could be used also on some of the simular hacks , vbAdvanced. If you updated it ..

We don't send an HTML one - we send a text newsletter...but still it kills us :(
If I find something, I'll let you know.
Sending emails through vB is not the best option, since as you stated, it stops other mail going out from vB.
I've been looking for a good mailing list program for a while but am finding that there are a lot to choose from. It's hard to find one worth putting money on, especially since I haven't found any with good demos.
