Version 3.0.1 is currently available

This is the tested port of my 3.5.x version h(https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=99920)

You can now nominate hacks yourself for hacks of the month. There is a link on the right of hacks on top of the files.

Function
This will display the members of the Bulletin Board based on their lattitude and longitude coordinates on a googlemap.

Don't forget to hit install !!!!!!!
Please read the guide before asking for support !!!!!!!

Feel free to support this mod and make a paypal donation to admin@stonyarc.com

INSTALL (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/vborg_miscactions.php?do=installhack&threadid=123148)

Detailed installation instructions and screenshots in the included pdf file.

Current Features

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2008/09/9.png

NOTE:
VBGooglemap 3.0.0 contains the vulnerability fix. Please upgrade immediately. Version 3.0.0. also contains all features from 2.5.X

As always you use modifications at your own risk.

VBGooglemap Member Edition 2.5.x brings you a lot of new features. It?s vital that you uninstall any previous version before upgrading/installing version 2.5.x.

Upgrading from version 2.5.0 is easier. Instruction are available in the guide.

As the uninstall function will not remove your googlemap data in the database but only the templates and files you can safely remove an older version. As a precaution you should always take a backup. This should be done on each major change you make to your bulletin board.

IF YOU ARE RUNNING VERSION 1.0.3, 2.0.X AND YOU CHANGED TEXT DIRECTLY IN THE TEMPLATES YOU NEED TO SAVE YOUR CHANGES AS VERSION 3.0.0. REQUIRES YOU TO UINSTALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS.

This has taken quite some work and still will take a lot more. Please give credit where credit is due. You cannot remove any notice without prior written permission.

Changes in this version

Planned Features
- TBD

Volume warning

high volume of users may slow down the load. Currently a load counter is included.

Languages

Thanks to Wachtmeister there is a German translation available to you all. Feel free to use it.

The translation will be updated on each new version.

Special

- Read the attached PDF for more information. The pdf is also included in the zip file.
- You'll need a googlemap key for your domain. Get your own key for your domain view http://www.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html for more information.
A googlemap key is only valid for a specific domain. You'll need a specific google account to create one.
All is explained on the googlemap link indicated above.
- Set the file permissions on the marker.xml file to 777
- The googlemap script can handle non-registered users. They will only see the main map and won't be able to enter information. This is reserved for logged in users (detected automatically)
- usergroup permissions are available in the backend
- To change location just drag the map while holding the left mouse key or by using the zoom and key functions on the left
- First time loading of the map may take a few seconds longer because of Google API hosting

The 3.5.X should work fine too if you upgrade (if you are already running this mod).

I have a number of problems having upgraded to vB3.6 and this Googlemap ME version. From the attached image you can see all the side images are missing, and clicking on 'Properties' for each shows the same image for each panel: mm_20_.png

None of the markers are there, they are all black smudges.

There are also two vbgooglemapme.php files in the zip.

1. If you are using different styles make sure you install the images in that styles dir too
2. Before starting you have to set the color for each usergroup and configure what usergroup is to be shown in the legend

That should fix it for you

Edit: Added the cron job, still no entry.

I have this problem with other installs and in the hot spot edition.
Not to hijack this thread, in my marker file is show googlemapme/noimage.png

great hack... but....

[List users] (doesnt show my "marked location") yet [Your Entry] when clicked on is filled out...
[Show Main Map] shows a map ... but not my 'marked location'....

I added the cron job (in admin cp)....ran it like you said....
markers.xml is in the /forums (directory) with .777 chmod
there are 7 Entries when clicking on (List Users) YET on the right hand side it says....
Load: <- says nothing... theres supposed to be a number right??
Current markers: 0 <- ?? but theres 7 entries in list users
Current Zoom level: 3

(so something should definitly be showing)
I dont know whats up...

I got it installed and it looks great! One small issue.....any idea why the $post[findme] link only works for admins?

EDIT: Nevermind on the findme. I had it between a if /if statement. One thing we would like to do though is remove the usergroup from the list view. We don't want people knowing who the admins are.

Most FTP clients have this ability. I use CuteFTP, but others should offer the funtion as well. In CuteFTP, when you right-click a file on the web server, CHMOD is one of your options. If you have direct server access, you can use CHMOD from the command line.

Thanks

You put it wherever you want the link to show up. You'll have to have some understanding of the code to figure that out. Step 8 is basically the same thing. The $post[findme] code is like a variable for a link that will read My Location. You can see an example of it on my board for the members who have added their location.

Given that it disappears when removing the bitfields from your hacks, I tend to think that it is more your hacks not being written to follow the vB way, rather than a vB 'bug'.

*edit* Hmm.. perhaps it was a combination of this hack and another.. seems to be working fine with the lastest version.

Apologies for casting aspersions on your hack sir. :)

You have to add your location in manually by going to "Your Location" in the map of course, but if you have already done that then did you click the auto approve or check the Approval log in the ACP ?

Hello,

first of all, THANKS for this great modification. I'm running vBulletin 3.6.0 and installed the map last night. All is working fine!
But one tiny problem: I also downloaded the german *.xml, tried to install it - and got the error: *invalid file*.

Is the german *.xml not compatible with the map?

How could I translate myself? I tried already to translate the phrases but this only takes effect in the Admin-CP. As nearly none of our users is able to read english, it would be great, if you could let me know, where I find the phrases for the map.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Vertippsel

Edit: Some people are really too stupid (me for example..) I made changes in a local copy of the product...xml and that's why the changes couldn't take effect :) . No problems any more!

Hi,

I have the same problem as some others...
I cannot add any entry.

Entries from accounts are added, however markers do not appear on the map.

Marker.xml has 777 permissions, so ther problem is not there.
Any ideas?!?

EDIT:
2 mins later I got it:
This works like a moderated thread if you have the option "Auto approve additions to the map" set to OFF.

You need to aproove additions manualy by going to the Vbgooglemap ME-->ME Unapproved view and approove entries.....

I'd like to to get rid of the image funcitonality as well. If they link to an image on a slow host, it can take a really long time for the map to render. I'd rather do away with that.

How about an option to show the member's profile picture for the image?

I inserted the $post[findme] in my legacy postbit and it works properly.

What I would like to do is have it display a small icon instead of a text link ("My location") in the postbit. I would like to have this icon be the "button" that is pushed to cause the map to come up and display that persons marker.

I have tried a bunch of ideas and got one to work (modified the phrase that was generating the "My location" text and put the image link in it instead) but it caused a problem when someone went back to edit their location, the map wouldn't display.

I can't figure out what the $post[findme] is actually calling...

Any help would be appreciated!

Looks like this error happens if you have both editions. Regardless of the one you delete, the error disappears.

It appears there is a name conflict.

I *think* it's because he's got the same name "customadminperms" as settings for both editions. I altered the administrator table and added customadminmeperms as settings and I reflected the name change in the includes/bitfield_vbgooglemam.xml and no more error.

don't go and to the same until someone says it's ok :-)

if the username contains a character like ' you get a mysql error.

I have this same issue, does anyone have a work-around???

I have the same problem and confirmed the problem was VBGooglemap Member Edition. The bit fields get corrupt, I noticed this after I ran a attachment thumbnail rebuild.

To fix the problem:

Removed the newly added XML files from the includes directory.
Uninstall the Googlemap ME from the plugs, remove all files associated with it.
Then rebuild the bit cache by copying the original VB install directory and running the tool.php.

I found dozens of people that are having this problem, I think many more don't even know it yet. I think the application is awesome but theres a problem with GoogleMaps ME and HSE when the bit field is rebuilt by a VB core process.

Before anyone states otherwise, you shuold know I have recreated the problem on my test box.

P.S. This is an AWESOME Add-on, I want it and I want it branding free any ideas on cost.

Each user has to manually add the entry for their location by clicking "Your Entry" when in the Google Map page.
Also, You either need to turn Auto Approve in the ACP settings on, or check your Unapproved Log and approve the entrys.

NEW PROBLEM!

Getting a error when the map page is displayed now:

Line: 9

Character: 53

Error: Invalid Argument

Code: 0

URL: vbgooglemapme.phpThis problem appears to be limited to Internet Explorer... I have reports of FireFox working normally.

I have 92 pins on my map, IE will load 90 pins then give this error. The map will display 90 of the 92 pins as well as the dashboard will show 90 of 92 loaded.

Is there a code issue in the vbgooglemapme.php file that needs to be adjusted???

HELP!

***** UPDATE *****

DISREGARD!!! I found the problem, I had a user enter his own coordinates instead of clicking on the map to set his marker. When he entered the coordinates, he used N & W letters instead of the proper way of entering the coordinated for Googlemaps... The program didn't know how to handle these "weird" coordinates... I changed them to the standard format and now it works!

Also in the backend (admincp) you have to select what image is linked to what usergroup and if the usergroup should appear or not.

The user visits the map and clicks a link to add their entry.
They then find their spot on the map by clicking, dragging, and zooming.
The form automatically updates with the latitude and longitude that they pick, they then add their title and text, and click to submit it.
You can auto-approve them or manually approve them.
Nothing to do with their IP unfortunately. It would be cool to see the map get them close by using their IP, then let them pinpoint the proper spot.

Thank you for this idea, I tried it and it worked perfectly!

I just upgraded to 2.5.2, thanks for your hard work.

One note, I have many secondary usergroups and I choose to only show about 4 groups on the map page but whenever I install or update the hack it has all markers set to display by default so I must edit each one, one by one. Would it be possible in future versions for it not to revert those settings or to have all markers set to not display by default?

I also still have the problem where clicking on the user's link $post[findme]just brings me to the main map page and not specifically to the users location. The same thing happens when I list the users then click 'show on map'

I just upgraded -- I love this hack and so do my members. Thanks stonyarc.

I had the missing pin images too, had the drop shadows but no pins. Even though I double checked that all files had uploaded; had all the usergroups set to their colors; and had group and file permissions and cron jobs where they were supposed to be.

I fixed it by uploading all the files again, and then then my pins appeared.

I'd also love to see an option to suppress the display of certain user groups. I don't want my members to know how I have them all categorized ;)

Hey guys,

I found that my postbit was getting a little cluttered. To fix this, one of the housekeeping items I did was to replace the standard postbit "Location:" phrase variable with the one for the Googlemap link.

1. In postbit or postbit_legacy find:

<if condition="$post['field2']"><div>$vbphrase[location_perm]: $post[field2]</div></if>

replace the vbphrase:

$vbphrase[location_perm]

With this phrase for the map link:

$post[findme]

The resulting code is this:

<if condition="$post['field2']"><div>$post[findme]: $post[field2]</div></if>

It now looks like this:

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2006/10/17.jpg

EDIT: I also edited the phrase "vbgooglemapme_findme" to say "Location" instead of "My Location"

AyeCapn

I inserted the $post[findme] in my legacy postbit and it works properly.

What I would like to do is have it display a small icon instead of a text link ("My location") in the postbit. I would like to have this icon be the "button" that is pushed to cause the map to come up and display that persons marker.

We had the same thing, we have those nice little icons for msn, aim, etc.. and wanted to add a nice image for map, instead of that text.

What to do:
go to ur forum-database.
Find in table phrases (or vb3_phrases, whatever u have) the record with the varname: vbgooglemapme_findme
If u found that record, edit the text from: My location to something like: <img src="images/globe.gif" border=0 title="My location" />
Save it and u're done there...

U'll notice nothing changed in the forum yet.. That's because that weird cashe or w/e isn't updated.
To update this, go in ur adminpanel to search phrases and search for <img src="images/globe.gif" border=0 title="My location" />
Then press the edit-button.
And after that click the save-button. (nothing changed, just press save)

From now on u'll see the image ;)

PS, instead of image, u can use other html, like <button onclick=...>My location</button> if u want a button ;)

If u can't access ur db, u can edit all ur html in teh postbit-template of course..

Make sure you upload the images to all your styles.

Also in the backend (admincp) you have to select what image is linked to what usergroup and if the usergroup should appear or not.
We also noticed, that when u add ur location, and use html, like <br /> it parses it all wrong, and u won't see ur icon on them map ;)

:bunny:

Now we got the following problem
When u added urself it goes fine..
But when u want to edit ur location, the following things are missing/empty:
- The map to zoom in with is gone
- The BB-code text-fields are empty.

Anyone got a solution ?
I think it is in the vbgooglemapme_display_yourlocation template...

Did you even ask a question about your issue?
Instead of saying "Don't waste your time this hack is useless" you should be asking for help as I and many others have got it to work with 3.6.0, 3.6.1, and 3.6.2. Saying that someones hack is not worth the time is very unproductive, and quite pointless as it works for many, but why it works for you we dont know unless you ask questions and give people details.

You have SEO which is incompatible with this hack in most instances. When I enable my SEO I get the exact same issue. Disable your SEO and Im almost going to assure you it will work. Maybe you should talk to your SEO software support to get that working properly.

You have SEO which is incompatible with this hack in most instances. When I enable my SEO I get the exact same issue. Disable your SEO and Im almost going to assure you it will work. Maybe you should talk to your SEO software support to get that working properly.

I have seen many questions asked about why it does not work for them and those questions were unanswered and still unanswered. No where in this thread did I read that it was not compatable with SEO and nor was that information posted in the instructions or even in the first post. At least advising people the limitations of a hack would prove more productive than not.

That said "dont waste your time" means exactly that. Obviously, the author does not wish to fully support the product and does not wish to write complete instructions and does not wish to advise people that if they have some SEO product working, this particular plugin will not be compatable. So the author himself is being unproductive in the approach to releasing a product, not me the person that wasted their time installing it and now having to uninstall it as the uninstall fuction does not remove the tables from the database.

Why I would deactivate a perfectly good, and usable product such as zoints SEO to get this one working is beyond me.

this module is conflicting with my interactive profile module (visionscript) when i add comments in the user's profile, it adds 1 queries for every comment added in the member profile page... however, when i disable this module , then it works fine without queries being added anymore for each comment.. anyone got the same problem and know the fix for this???

@flindersredclaw

Zoints SEO is currently incompatible with:
1. Incompatibility with vBA Gallery link.
2. Incompatibility with vBA Links
3. Improper linking from vBA CMPS Recent threads
4. Google Maps
5. Non english characters - Character replacement is now available.

That is a problem of your SEO hack not this one.

Well I've installed it and set it up as stated in the instructions but for some reason my main map does not show, anyone have any ideas?
http://www.allcorsa.co.uk/forums/vbgooglemapme.php

**Edit**
I've since discovered that it is my zoints seo addon which is causing the problem. Has anyone found a solution to this yet? Is there a way of possibly excluding the googlemap page form the zoints seo?

I have seen many questions asked about why it does not work for them and those questions were unanswered and still unanswered.

No one gets paid to give support here, if they have time or want to support it they do. These hacks are provided for free for our own use. If we can't get it to work, that's really our problem, not thiers.

No where in this thread did I read that it was not compatable with SEO and nor was that information posted in the instructions or even in the first post. At least advising people the limitations of a hack would prove more productive than not.

No, nowhere in this thread did it say it was incompatable. But, in the Zoints SEO thread it's outlined quite clearly. I have filed a ticket with them, which they provide support for free, to try and get this issue resolved. It's of no fault of the author of this hack that Zoints is incompatible with it, nor is it his or her responsibilty to fix it.

I don't know about you, but I enjoy having this place to find free hacks and appreciate every coder out there providing them. Telling them one hack is a waste of time doesn't really motivate them to continue providing hacks, and support for thier hack. Again, no one pays them, they do it because they enjoy giving to the community. The author is being productive by providing a hack that works for many people. It's not up to them to get the hack working on your forum, that's your job.

Why I would deactivate a perfectly good, and usable product such as zoints SEO to get this one working is beyond me.

Then don't, uninstall, and move on.

Thanks da420

I'm working on the new version of all the googlemap versions.

Release is still on target for this year.

As for the SEO issue, SEO and special apps like googlemaps can give issues.

Most SEO products allow you to exclude certain pages from SEO so why not use that till I can investigate the matter. I'm sure the SEO people will look into it also.

Hello,

Been running the latest 2.5.2 version for a long time with no problems at all.

Today I installed memcached and starting using it for vBulletin, no problems at all.

However since I've installed and started running memcached the googlemap has stopped working.

At first it was telling me the key was wrong, so I hardcoded that in, but basically it appears it's not pulling anything from the database since I installed memcache and memcached.

It seems everything else I have on my site and forum is working fine, any ideas or suggestions?

I know that the previous version of vbadvanced also didn't work with memcached, but now does, so maybe whatever they did will work here too?

Thanks!

Just tried it out. Pretty sweet! :D

However, it seems that by default, groups don't have a color of marker assigned to them. This results in a bunch of broken markers in the legend as it looks for "/images/googlemapme/mm_20_.png". Perhaps a default color is in order? :)

The plugin sets a variable so that you can link to someone's pin. I had it where you could click their location (ex: "Portland, Oregon") and it'd take you to their pin.

But yeah, it does a query per post. :(

Viper007Bond
12-19-2006, 04:24 AM
I got around this by running a scheduled task that sets a user profile field and adds a "find me" if that field has a value, so it doesn't run queries when the postbit is displayed.

Link: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?p=964330#post964330

You can see it on my forums at www.mini2.com/forum but the map isn't working since I introduced memcached (still not sorted that out).

On upgrade the markers file needs to be recreated. This can be done by editing your entry. The actual data is kept in the DB so no data will get lost.

Hi Stonyarc,

I am hoping you can help. I notice VBGME uses a php file in the admincp folder to create the menu within the admincp itself.

When I give a super mod admin access to look after some users, they can see the VBGME menu structure within the admincp.

What conditional needs to go in the php file to resctrict access so that either only user 1 or usergroup 6 can see it? And where would I place that conditional?

Thanks in advance

Errors are fine to get in the cron job. Ignore them if everything is working..

I get this, and everything works tip top...

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/xxxxxxxx/public_html/forum/includes/adminfunctions.php:266) in /includes/cron/vbgooglemapme_cron.php on line 20

Anyone know how to implement this using Mozilla Firefox browsers? I can see my Googlemap ME using IE, but can't see the map or image using Firefox. (Just started using it, haven't gotten it all figured out yet)

The installation went well, but when attempting to add myself to the map, the page revert to the forum homepage. The reason is that vb calls http://mysite.com/forum/index.php?/vbgooglemapme.php?/do=addelement

How do I get rid of the index.php?

also, the images of the usergroup legends don't show up.

OK, this is an excellent Mod. Thanks stonyarc.

I noticed you used to have an avatar posted to the Image on the map tag.
Presumably this was either tough to make reliable or an unwanted feature.

I want this feature. I'm pretty good with SQL. If I poplulated the field for the image with the users avatar (if they have set their pin) then is there a way I can push that update to the map?

In case anyone may ask, yes, I wish to overwrite their 'custom' image.

set the auto approve to off it seems to work fine but obviously be aware of the nature of the additions to the map !

StonyArc
Please consider rewriting the "about" phrases so that they are in 3rd person as the USERS will see them. In my opinion its not appropriate to have admin info posted for the world to see. The members dont need or want to see what happens behind the curtain. You have already addressed the licensing to the admin when he/she downloaded and installed.

It would be helpful to add a line or 2 to the USERS about how to use the product.

StonyArv, sorry if you have already covered this... Love the Mod, but I can not get it to work yet... I dont see any of our usergroups even though we have set them to display and checked permissions.

Also... when running the cron on this we get...

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/httpd/vhosts/spinquad.com/httpdocs/forums/includes/adminfunctions.php:283) in /includes/cron/vbgooglemapme_cron.php on line 20

Done

Can you help, thank you!! :D

Hey nice work only one issue. I have the latest IE7 and VB3.6.4 and the main map does not show up? Anyone else getting this?

This is happing on the other map scripts also.
The small map works in the "Your entry" section....

I have read where the DIV needs to be under the google script?

Update: just uninstalled IE7 went down to 6 and still the same thing... Is this MOd still supported? Will it work with VB3.6.4?

Thanks

This is an elementary question but I still haven't understood how this mod works yet.
Does a visitor/member of my forums have to signup/join/enter his/her location to then have the marker auto or manually approved before a pin/marker will show up on the map? If no one signed up with their info would the map be blank?

TIA

I installed this on 3.6.4, but not markers show. The XML file is updated, but the "loading" AJAX thing never indicates loading. When I go to edit my location, the pin shows.

Any ideas?

OK, this is working pretty well in test for us on vB 3.6.4 (Apache2/PHP5/MySQL5/Linux). We have these exceptions:
- Picture display comes and goes. Sometimes scrolling the map helps?
- Some members don't see the pins or links above the on map certain computers.

My advice to those having complete problems (no display) is: recapitulate the install and make sure the cron task is working. That advice may be worth nothing. I can't support the add-on for you any further. As always, the more details you post, the more likely you are to get help. If it was me, I'd post: O/S, vB & add-on versions plus file locations uploaded, plus cron task log.

UM, anyway...

I was sorry to see Stonyarc gave up the avatar load for the pictures, though I could guess why. We have a PG-rated board and like to keep some control on the picture displays. Consequently, I hacked together the script below to ensure that the avatar pic is what is displayed for the vbgooglemapme pin image.

This might only work if you have set your avatars to be stored in your database as opposed to your filesystem. If you don't understand what that is, or the issues surrounding that choice, go to the vBulletin documentation and look it up before you go on.

OTOH, if someone can tell me I'm wrong about that, then, please hip me to the Truth!

Here's the script - you could destroy your database, so don't use it or my instructions unless you know what is happening in the code and take full responsibility for the consequences yourself!!!

Name it something like vbgooglemapme_avatars.php
Upload it to <your forum directory>/includes/cron

Once you've done that, you can set it up to test via a scheduled task, like the thumbnail below. If you set it up this way it will be disabled for schedules, but you can run it on demand for a test.

Now use the Scheduled Task Manager [Run Now] function in your admincp to run this task (because you assumed responsibilty, remember!!!). If you want to see whether it worked, run a sql query like this in your admincp sql query tool:

SELECT userid, pimage FROM googlemapme ORDER BY userid asc

You should see a list of userids and standard avatar URLs in the result. Of course, if you screw up the query you might have no database left.

If you like what you see, go back to the task in the scheduled task manager and enable it, but change the time you run it to the minute or more before you run Stonyarc's scheduled task.

To be clear again: You can wreck things playing around at this level. If you do, its YOUR fault. My code is NOT authorized by Stonyarc and frankly, I expect him to delete this post when he/she returns. For those who have the skills to deal with this, I hope this helps you. I've been helped so much be vb.org over the years.

hello and thanks for the support on this. Question: When you say "recapitulate the install" can you define what this means. sorry still kinda new with VB....

This is the error I get at the bottom of IE.

Char: 35
error: Expected';'
Code: 0
URL: http://www.photofreeway.com/board/vbgooglemapme.php
