I can see the XML marker is bring written to and the data looks clean. I will have to get a programmer to look at this form me next week. If the fix is something worthy of posting I will post it here in case it can help someone else.
Just a follow up for those who may have the same issue..
I looked into this for Andy and the main problem here was that the server was serving xml files as an application/octet-stream content, whereas it should have been text/xml.
Adjusted the servers conf file and added the proper mime type and it resolved the issue. A quick look at the javascript error log in my browser told me that xmlDoc had no properties. That was the red flag, so I validated the markers.xml file at http://validator.w3.org/ which quickly pointed out the error.

Not everyone has access to their server's conf file.

I am in the process of writing my own version since this one is no longer being supported. I will let you know when I have something to test.
This is so long overdue. With all the progress in the mapping space, I cannot believe others have not stepped forward a long time ago. Boofo...I'm sure I speak for many but I can't wait to see what you come up with.

After spending a lot of time on this plug-in, I disabled the cron and now it works pretty well. The update was the problem since I didn't think of the server config solution.

OK i found a solution..about IE7 markers problems
The prob is : Marker Title
-Special caracter not reconized on IE7 like "?" for eg.
-Edit the user who put a special caracter on "Marker title" and replace it with a normal one (for eg "a" instead"?")
so you can see markers on IE.
If have try all solutions posted above and the only one who work is this one.. :(
Of course u can add a warning about that for prevent users on your template.
Waiting on a fix - thx for all
note : soz for my english coz i'm french noob ;) and use Firefox ^^

Hello,
I've seen many can't see their pin on the map. It's the case for me too.
I wonder if the problem is what say these error messages:
In the include path there is a "/./" that does not seem ok...
What do you think ?
Maybe a file to edit ?

Hello
A Mod of me has the following problem.
He does not see only the page, the card and the markers being published at the call of the Map.
83330
Everyone sees everything other Users / Mods.
There is the problem also after update on 3.7.2 since vB 3.7.0. The Mod used FF1.8, then FF 2.0.0.14 and now FF3, always the same problem.
Is it due to the vB, due to the Map or due to what ?
What I can do, or him, so that the card is shown to markers again with this ?
*The answers are welcome also in German to be, my English is very bad.

The user gets the following error messages in the fault console of the FF3:

I also get these error messages in the fault console of the FF3, apart from the red ones with the cross. So should it to the lies, only what is not here correct with the user?

Hi,
maybe someone reads this.
I know, the Script is for version 3.6, but it works also on 3.7.2.
There is only one error that comes up, when starting vbgooglemap.
Wrong datatype for second argument in [path]/includes/init.php(293) : eval()'d code (Zeile 3)
Does anyone know, how to get rid of this error?
The map is shown, but I have this text at the top of the page.
Thank you.

+1 on this one.
My guess is it's an error in the Javascript towards the bottom of the vbgooglemapme_display_map template. Perhaps it doesn't parse out or make proper use of the supplied URL variables?
Although I'm no JS guru by the least bit, I'll look deeper into it asap.
EDIT: I've narrowed it down to the Load_Map() function. So far from what I've seen, there isn't even code to put to use the URL variables. I'll do some more digging and report back.

Hi all.
I just wanted to post and let everyone know that with a little work this mod can work with 3.7.2 as mentioned above.
I was also having a problem with the markers not showing. However, after making the edits to the vbgooglemapme_cron and functions_vbgooglemapme files.. as well as having to run the cron by hand three times.. the mod appears to be working correctly.

Read back through for the reason for no markers ... it's in the earlier threads some where ....
If my memory serves me correctly it's because some one has added their marker title with something other than [A-Z] or [0-9] ... not exactly sure but it's something simple like that ...

I'm having a weird problem with this and any help would be appreciated. I'm rather a newbie at this so be gentle with 'talking shop'.
I've installed the map and it works fine in the default style. I added the vb_dark style for the board, and I followed the instructions on uploading the images to the new style's directory. Though the map will not show up on the new style at all. It works fine in the default style, but is completely blank on the new style.

Hi i have this installed and everything looks ok except none of the markers are showing on the map at all.
I know a lot of other members have had this problem but i cant seem to find a fix.
I have it set to auto approve. i have gone through all the steps and am not new to installing mods so i have made sure everything is right.
I have changed the permisions of marker.xml to 777
The only thing i can think of is i have uploaded the images in the wrong place
I am using a custom style so i currently have the images in the folders
images/googlemapme
and
images/bluedeamon/googlemapme
I cant think of anything else it could be but if anyone can help it is very much appreciated.

Some feature requests / proposals:
Mousewheel zooming
Mousing over only pops up usernames instead of full-scale info balloons
Ability to select terrain
I've found mousewheel zooming and terrain selection in the Google Maps API (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/), but I'd like some hint as to where in the code to add it, like where the map pane is created. The info balloons are more complicated, but I think that I could handle them.
If I successfully make those changes, I'll post them here.
lpetrich
10-27-2008, 12:45 AM
To make the changes I'd proposed, edit product-vbgooglemapme.xml and make these changes.
To make mousing over only show the username, change:
Line 550:
var marker = new GMarker(point, icon);
to
var marker = new GMarker(point, {icon:icon, title:username});
BTW, the former syntax for the GMarker constructor is now deprecated. What I substituted for "icon" is a GMarkerOptions object, which is a JavaScript property list.
To enable mousewheel zooming and terrain display, add these lines:
map.enableScrollWheelZoom();
map.addMapType(G_PHYSICAL_MAP);
after the following lines:
Line 598:
map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("memap"),$map_type);
Line 855:
map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("mapme"),$map_type);
Line 1129:
map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("mapme"),$map_type);
Be sure to reinstall it after you are done editing it.
I didn't try to add a "terrain" option to the possible default views, because it would take some coding in several places in the plugin, and I didn't try to add draggability to the marker placer, even though it only requires editing the product file.
To do the latter, you set draggable:true in the marker's options, then set up a GEvent listener that gets the "moveend" event and updates the displayed position accordingly.
And is the recentering after moving worth keeping?
ETA: when making mousing over only show the username, be sure to go to
Admin CP > Vbgooglemap ME > ME Settings > Enable the mouseover support on the markers?
and make it "No". That way, you will only get a marker's info bubble when you click on it.

Cosmetic change: fix of marker appearance in location editor. It will always look like the vbGoogleMap red marker, rather than Google Maps's default marker. Assumes the line numbering of the previous fix.
In product-vbgooglemapme.xml:
Line 863:
map.addOverlay(new GMarker(point, icon));
to
map.addOverlay(new GMarker(point, {icon:icon}));
Line 877:
map.addOverlay(new GMarker(point));
to
map.addOverlay(new GMarker(point, {icon:icon}));
ETA:
Another cosmetic change: fix of marker position on map:
Change all occurrences of
icon.iconAnchor = new GLatLng(...);
icon.infoWindowAnchor = new GLatLng(...);
to
icon.iconAnchor = new GPoint(6, 20);
icon.infoWindowAnchor = new GPoint(8, 1);
Coordinates are left-to-right, top-to-bottom.

Since you obviously have the map working, do you think you could read posts 797-800 above and see if you could help us out with getting it going on 3.7.3. It seems to be a common problem and some of us are curious as to where we're going wrong with the install/configuration so that none of our pointers show up.

You'd implemented ZeroHour's fix (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1456251&postcount=697), I guess -- that's what I had done, and it had worked for me.
I had also edited markers.xml to get rid of troublesome XML-breaking characters in it, getting rid of ? and & and the like.
If you have Firefox, you can do some debugging with it by selecting
Tools > Error Console
Any HTML, CSS, or JavaScript errors will show up there.
If you are more adventurous, you can go to the Firefox add-ons page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/) and install the JavaScript debugger and try to use it to see what's happening.
ATVTorture
10-29-2008, 01:15 PM
Yeah, I had done ZeroHour's fix to no avail. I also stripped down the xml file so the first line is <markers>, the next 2 lines are 2 markers I created on the map, then the file closes with </markers> Still doesn't load them on the main map. But, you can see the marker when you select "Your entry" which is odd.
When I ran Firefox's error console, it gave to errors in the css for "word-wrap" saying it was an unknown property and the declaration was dropped.

You could try displaying markers.xml in your web browser: <forum root address>/markers.xml
That will show what your browser "thinks" it is, and perhaps purge the browser's cached version of markers.xml
I remember editing it once, but some time after that, it got some bad image links again, so markers.xml may be created from the database. I think that it gets periodically re-created by vbGoogleMap's cron job; it also gets re-created after an entry creation or edit.
So you could go to
Admin CP > Vbgooglemap ME > ME Full View
and edit the possibly-troublesome entries, using markers.xml as a guide. By the time you read this, that cron job had likely restored markers.xml to the database value; you can run it again by going to
Admin CP Scheduled Tasks > Scheduled Task Manager > Googlemap ME Cron
and pressing "Run Now".
The two vbGoogleMap data tables in the database are:
googlemapme
googlemapme_settings
So you can try deleting those if you get desperate.

Seems like some trouble in generating the HTML for the info bubbles.
Here's a kludge that will work:
Enter the Cyrillic text or special characters as HTML entities when editing an entry, characters in this form: &#<decimal>; or &#x<hexadecimal>; or &<name>;
It should be displayed in the info bubbles correctly. However, it'll get displayed as the translated characters the next time you go edit. Digging in the plugin code for how to take care of this mess will be rather difficult for me, however. However, I've prepared a kludge:
Create a translator page with this HTML code
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
<!--
function Make_HTML_Entities()
{
var text = document.getElementById("TextInput").value;
var uctext = ""
for (var i=0; i<text.length; i++)
{
ucchr = "&#" + text.charCodeAt(i) + ";";
uctext += ucchr;
}
document.getElementById("TextOutput").innerHTML = uctext;
}
//-->
</script>
<table>
<tr>
<td>Text to be expanded:</td>
<td>
<input id="TextInput" type="text">
<input type="button" value="Go!" onclick="Make_HTML_Entities()">
</td>
</tr><tr>
<td>As HTML entities:</td>
<td>
<div id="TextOutput"></div>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
It'll turn whatever you had typed into HTML entities, which can then be used as input.

You can see if it has bad HTML by getting <forum root>/markers.xml on your web browser, and you can find out where the page execution bombs out with Firefox Tools > Error Console.

I looked at the product file, and I found the editor page in it. It does a simple HTML submit-page operation, but I'd have to find which code receives the submitted data, and find that code's path from the submitted data to the database.
But once that is done, it should be easy to turn out-of-band characters into HTML entities with code like what I'd written.

No, thats not my problem, read the post again please. The problem I speak of involves the old version that allowed one to link to specific members on the map. I run in the postbit a link for each member that filled the map a link to his pin on the map. The earlier version of this mod that I was running allowed those links to work. The update I did no longer lets those links work. Example of a link:

That type of link would zoom in to said location. Now its just as if I were to pull up vbgooglemapme.php without passing the variables. The variables in the URL don't have any effect anymore. I wish they would. Have you got an idea to fix this please? Thanks in advance!

I did some checking, and I found that
(vbGoogleMap page) >[List users] > (some user) > Show on map
has a URL syntax of
<forum root>/vbgooglemapme.php?lat=<latitude>&lng=<longitude>&zoom=<zoom>
like your link, MediaHound. I tried composing a URL with that syntax, but with nobody's location in it, and it worked fine on my site's vbGoogleMap installation.
So see what happens with "Show on map". If you have Firefox, I recommend going to Tools > Error Console, in case it's an error in the generated page.
MediaHound

Nope, when I click those as well (same link format), the map stays on:
"Currently viewing <is null>"
"Current Zoom level: 1" (meanwhile the URL dictates it should be 6, or 10, etc..)
715 markers on the map all seem to appear just fine.
Latitude and Longitude are not matching up between the page and in the URL.
Error console is reporting many instances of this:
Error: self._setBlockingState is not a function
Source File: chrome://global/content/bindings/notification.xml
Line: 262

Ok, I opened my debug script and there was only one error in a javascript, something about forground or something. But I also edited the two php files and I still can't see all the member markers on the main map. However if I choose to edit an individual member I can see their marker on their own page.

effeff70, did you try ZeroHour's fix?
I suggest that after doing that, you run the vbGoogleMap cron job again; it's in Scheduled Tasks. It will regenerate markers.xml with the fixes.
You can look at markers.xml with your web browser by going to <forum root>/markers.xml -- check to see if there's anything that an XML parser might gag on, like a & or a ?
You can fix those bad characters by going to "List users" and then editing their entries to get rid of them. That'll update their entries in the database.

Example of a link:
http://www.forums.com/vbgooglemapme.php?lat=26.11672770042665&lng=-98.20377498865128&zoom=10

Falcon Capt, thanx for that patch. But the original code works fine in my installation. However, I haven't had such trouble with my site's installation of vbGoogleMap -- the location syntax works fine with it:
<forum root>/vbgooglemapme.php?lat=<latitude>&lng=<longitude>&zoom=<zoom value>
Try composing a URL with some latitude, longitude, and zoom values and see what happens.
In reference to crkgb's troubles, I added some Cyrillic text to the description text by copying and pasting some Cyrillic text from a text field elsewhere (Dashboard auto-translator widget). I used this Russian phrase:
Где я? (Gde ya? -- Where am I?)
It showed up without any trouble -- I tested it on the most recent OSX Firefox, Opera, and Safari, and also the most recent Windows Internet Explorer. It may be that crkgb's installation of vBulletin had been set to use a different character encoding; mine (talkrational.org) uses vBulletin's default, as far as I can tell.
It's possible to HTMLize the text that one inputs in the editor page; that involves changing this code in in vbgooglemap.php:
$title_map = $db->escape_string(trim($vbulletin->GPC['title_map']));
$text_map = $db->escape_string(trim($vbulletin->GPC['text_map']));
to:
$title_map = $db->escape_string(htmlspecialchars(trim($vbulletin->GPC['title_map']),ENT_QUOTES));
$text_map = $db->escape_string(htmlspecialchars(trim($vbulletin->GPC['text_map']),ENT_QUOTES));
I tried that, and it turns the Cyrillic characters into HTML-entity text, which is displayed in that fashion:
#1043;#1076;#1077; #1103;?
(initial &'s removed)
So using this fix would require reverting ZeroHour's fixes back to the original, and then editing all the users' map info -- one can do that if one had set one's privileges appropriately in the usergroups editor. ZeroHour's fixes are for composing markers.xml from the database info; users' web browsers then read markers.xml to find out which markers to display. I found htmlspecialchars in this PHP string-function reference (http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_ref_string.asp), along with other PHP text-conversion functions.

I did and had the same problem, the map would just open to the default settings. This problem occured after changing servers. The new server is running slightly different versions of Apache, PHP and MySQL. The fix I posted above took care of the issue and it is once again working fine.

I am ever so grateful for this patch, good work. I would like to add to the record that in addition to the version upgrade of this mod, I did also do a server switch recently as well. change to:

change
map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("mapme"),$map_type);
to
map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("mapme"));
and likewise for "memap" instead of "mapme".
After
map.addMapType(G_PHYSICAL_MAP);
add

I'd earlier described my terrain fix, which involves adding the line

I am having an interesting problem with this app. I installed it about 2 weeks ago and it worked great. Just today when I logged in none of the members locations are showing on the map. If you look at the member list they are still listed, but none of the pins or anything are loading on the map. It used to have the "Load: X of X" in the upper right, now it just says "Load:" with nothing behind it.
Any clue as to what happened? No settings or anything have been messed with since it was installed.

I was able to get this working with vB 3.80 RC2 with a few of lpetrich's and Falcon Capt's suggested fixes.
Mainly the zoom wouldn't work when you clicked the find me, and then just a few improvments.
I didn't read back through all of the posts, but I wonder how hard it would be to add two things...
One maybe a single user that can add multiple links on there, or even everyone being able to add more than just their location. Seeing how my site deals with Off-Roading, it would be nice to mark trails on the map maybe even with a different icon.
Another idea, somehow link it to zipcode based locating. So if a vb user has their zipcode entered in their profile it will automagically populate. (I suspect this is gonna be harder to do because of the sheer amount of code it will take.)
Any thoughts ? I am going to read more of this thread tomorrow and see if I can get some ideas from the code.

Well I don't know about a re-release, but if it helps anyone I have attached my product-vbgooglemapme.xml and vbgooglemapme.php files in a zip. All I have done is added the recommended changes and it does work as I stated in earlier post.
One change I made myself is in the vbgooglemapme.xml file. Line 1479 I changed it so that there is a globe icon you click in the users postbit to locate them.I didn't like the text link and it was out of place for sure where I plopped it. I put it right under the user IM icons.
You will need to change the hyper link I added in line 1479 to you your actual domain/path_to_imag.file.
<div>$post[icqicon] $post[aimicon] $post[msnicon] $post[yahooicon] $post[skypeicon]</div>
<!-- vBGoogleMap Me -->
$post[findme]
<!-- / vBGoogleMap Me -->
I included the globe in the zip file as well but you can replace it with anything you like.
Hope this helps anyone looking to get it working. I am far from a coder, but I will spend hours making something I like work.. or until my eyes bleed which they were last night.
Thanks to the original author and those that have added code to make it work !
FYI, my server is IIS on 2003 x64, MySQL 5.x, PHP 5.x.

This addresses the disappearing markers which I had happen today.. roughly 24 hours after I installed it and had it working. This occured when a user went to modify his marker and they just all vanished.
Hope this helps... follow the directions in that post on where to place the updated files.
I do notice now, that if you go back to the Map and select "Your Entry", the zoom and links below are blank and the map doesn't show.
This might be a fluke with one of the other patches I applied.. I will research it more later.

01-06-2009, 10:26 AM
I suggest checking <forum root directory>/markers.xml to see if it can be parsed correctly as XML. People often put ' or " into their usernames and/or description text, which causes confusion for XML parsers.
ZeroHour's fix, in this thread, had fixed that problem for me and several others -- has it ever failed for anyone?
More broadly, it would be nice if someone was willing to maintain an updated and fixed version. I myself am willing to take on that task; I am rather expert with the Google Maps API, though not with PHP or vBulletin internals or interacting with a database. But I see a potential problem with infringing on StonyArc's copyright. Has anyone been in touch with StonyArc about this add-on, its problems, and our fixes?

I can't see how 3.7x wouldn't work if I can get it to work on 3.8 RC2. 3.8 is final on Thursday....
I didn't read all of your posts, but did you check in your markers.xml and make sure they are still in there ? If so, try the files I just updated and added last night in my previous post. I KNOW they work for for me because mine disappeared.. so I went back to post 697 and did those changes, uploaded files, ran scheduled task, and they were back.
Another thing of note.. take a peek and make sure you don't have any goofy characters in any of the users data. Not saying that would be the exact cause.. but I noticed that if someone links to an image and it has & or special characters that it won't show the image.

Another question: Is it really necessary to have this markers.xml?
Everybody can download this XML file. So an unregistered user can have all members with their coordinates. Makes this sense?
If we really need this file is it not possible to protect it against violation?
Glenshadow
01-11-2009, 01:11 PM
True.. I never thought about that.. but usually "most average" people won't know about this file.
You need to have it because it stores the locations.. unless you get creative with blocking the direct call of it, or re-write the whole mod to use DB.. your most likely stuck with it. It has to be accessable and writeable.
lpetrich
01-12-2009, 04:31 PM
There is a way to avoid creating and using that file.
Put its contents into the map page itself, as a JavaScript array.
However, one will have to ensure that quotes and apostrophes are properly escaped.
It's possible to improve performance by caching the page and updating it whenever the positions-DB entries change. And a simple way of doing that is to calculate a MD5 or SHA1 hash value for the positions DB whenever it gets updated, and to update the page only when its hash code differs from the DB's one.
PHP has some built-in functions for that, md5() and sha1(), so it should be straightforward to implement.

If I click the "Your Entry" link to add a marker it all seems to work, but when I load the Main Map I'm not shown on there. However I can see myself in the users list.
If I click on the "Your Entry" link after I've added myself the Googlemap doesn't load showing me where I had been placed.
No matter what I do it won't display the saved markers.
Any ideas?

Ok, I took my time and read hundreds of comments. I tried everything. I applied the 'no markers shown' fix, I fixed the 'set names utf8' mySQL errors and i fixed some other bugs. It still does not work proper. This software is definitely not supported anymore. Futhermore the developer hasn't seen in ages. Running versions are not allowed to be distributed due to the stupid license for these less then 1000 lines of php code.
I give it up. My recommendation for other admins: Do not waste your time with this addon! I invested 3 hours and could not get it running and I have at least a few php skills.

I spent about 1 1/2 hours on this today and now it works like it should. I did the patches listed back through the old posts, and now I am up and running, hondarebelforum (dot) com is the site if you would like to see it work. I believe I have it set so that unreg'd visitors can see the map.

I haven't seen one, and I haven't had time to figure out what the issue is, I have simply deactivated the mod and removed the link from my navbar until I have more time or somebody creates something.

Hello,
I've had this mod installed and working great on my forum for about 2 months. Today, I got a pm from a member letting me know that all the member markers have been deleted from the map..... all I have now is a blank map. Any ideas why this would happen when I haven't touched any settings since it was installed?
Thanks in advance.

MagiKelly, what happens when there is an invalid image address or some special character in the text? Have you tried ZeroHour's fix in post #697 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1456251&postcount=697)? That's worked for me and for several otehr people.
Phaedrus, it's rather troubling that vB 3.8.1 seems to have broken vbGoogleMap for you. I think that you ought to try ZeroHour's aforementioned fix, because by coincidence, someone might have entered some bad text or a bad image URL at the time that you upgraded to 3.8.1.
Is anyone else here willing to tell us their experiences with vbGoogleMap on 3.8.0 or 3.8.1?
towermatt, the \' instead of ' is an artifact of the text handling that will be hard to fix short of a major rewrite of it, to do JavaScript escaping and HTMLizing properly. And BTW, I think that the position-input system also deserves rewriting. I'm fairly familiar with the Google Maps API, but not so familiar with PHP or vBulletin's API, so I could offer only a limited amount of help. And where has StonyArc been?

1. where can i find the copyright in the files? i need to restyle it a bit so it fits better to my current style (i will not remove it or something else)
2. how can i install the german language file
and 3. in my navbar i have the link "Googlemap ME" and my question is how can i change the name of this link in Map or something else?
thanks a lot, and the mod is great and works perfect.

1. You can search for the copyright text in the files; I'm sure that it's hardcoded somewhere in them. If you can find it, you may be able to find what styling gets applied to it and change it.
2. I think that you can install the German-language file with the Language Manager. It's in Languages & Phrases in the AdminCP.
3. You change "Googlemap ME" to "Google Map" or "Map" in your template edits.

The problem is that markers.xml is an intermediate file that is composed from the contents of a table in the board's database file: googlemapme
If you can get direct access to the database, you may be able to bypass the manual-entry process or at least make it easier, though you'll have to know which vBulletin usernames correspond to which former SMF ones.
Short of that, you can ask everybody to re-enter their locations.
ETA: various bug fixes and feature additions by ZeroHour, Falcon Capt, and myself:
ZeroHour: marker-display fix (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1456251&postcount=697)
Keeps info-balloon text from causing XML-parsing errors and aborting the marker display if it contains certain characters
Me: several (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1653460&postcount=800)
Me: markers (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1653890&postcount=801)

Me: marker positions (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1669062&postcount=831)
Mouse-over showing username when info balloon is absent
Mousewheel zooming
Marker in location editor becomes vbGM red marker
Marker position in map fixed; it "points" to the right place
Added the option to show the terrain maps
Centers image in info balloon and imposes maximum size
Control of info balloon:
Admin CP > Vbgooglemap ME > ME Settings > Enable the mouseover support on the markers?
Set to No
Falcon Capt: position and zoom as URL args (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1665912&postcount=824)

That database table is the primary storage for the map data. The file markers.xml is for the downloaded map page to read with AJAX -- it can't read the database directly.

It already works in 3.8.3 for me and some other people; you may have conflicts with some other add-on like the Automatic Media Embedder (AME). You may want to check on the bug fixes and feature additions that several people have contributed, including myself.
As to entering coordinates numerically, that will require rewriting the client-side code in the product file.
Making it possible for each member to enter several points, each with their own labels, will require rewriting both the client-side and the server-side code. It may be possible to avoid changing the database-table format, however.

Due to this problem we're using Passive Video (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=188956&highlight=passive) :). I don't know if any fix exists for that..
thanks, I've done what you've said, and not it works, bye bye AME!

I killed the image tab all together and fixed the display issue that had to do with the small overview map.
See working version here - http://www.arizonaquads.com/forum/vbgooglemapme.php
For now, if you don't have any image problems (invalid chars such as &) but still your map is broken, try this.
In vbgooglemapme.php, find this on line 107
$smallmapcontrol = "
map.addControl(new GOverviewMapControl(new GSize(150,150)));
var overview = document.getElementById(\"memap_overview\");
document.getElementById(\"memap\").appendChild(overview);";and replace with this
$smallmapcontrol = "
map.addControl(new GOverviewMapControl(new GSize(150,150)));";That kept the small overview map and fixed the display issue.
I'll post back tomorrow how to remove all the info about images if people want.
Could you explain how to remove the image tab in the bubble?

Right I have my first fix. I will be editing this post with future changes so you can refer back to it and bookmark it by clicking the post number to the right.
Fix for no markers shown:
Edit:
/includes/functions_vbgooglemapme.php:
Goto line 49 which should start:
$text_file .= "<marker mapid=\"
Replace that line with:
$text_file .= "<marker mapid=\"". htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["mapid"])."\" title_map=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["title_map"])."\" lng=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["lng"])."\" lat=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["lat"])."\" userid=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["userid"])."\" username=\"".preg_replace("/\n|\r\n|\r/", "",nl2br(addslashes(htmlspecialchars(trim($get_xml_m arker["username"])))))."\" text_map=\"".preg_replace("/\n|\r\n|\r/", "", nl2br(addslashes(htmlspecialchars(trim($get_xml_ma rker["text_map"])))))."\" type=\"".htmlspecialchars($gettype['googlemapmetype'])."\" pimage=\"".htmlspecialchars($pimage)."\" />\n";
/includes/cron/vbgooglemapme_cron.php:
Goto line 58 which should start:
$text_file .= "<marker mapid=\"
Replace that line with:
$text_file .= "<marker mapid=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["mapid"])."\" title_map=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["title_map"])."\" lng=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["lng"])."\" lat=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["lat"])."\" userid=\"".htmlspecialchars($get_xml_marker["userid"])."\" username=\"".preg_replace("/\n|\r\n|\r/", "",nl2br(addslashes(htmlspecialchars(trim($get_xml_m arker["username"])))))."\" text_map=\"".preg_replace("/\n|\r\n|\r/", "", nl2br(addslashes(htmlspecialchars(trim($get_xml_ma rker["text_map"])))))."\" type=\"".htmlspecialchars($gettype['googlemapmetype'])."\" pimage=\"".htmlspecialchars($pimage)."\" />\n";
Run the scheduled task and your markers should return.
Basically I have modified the code to replace things like "&" with the xml safe "&" so no matter what anyone enters for the fields the xml should still be safe.
More tweaks to come including integration of the display groups being marker colour.
that is not working

Hi Guys.
I've noticed the pins do not appear on vbgooglemaps (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=123148) if I have AME - The Automatic Media Embeder 2.5.5 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=202476) enabled.
If I disable AME
Any idea how to fix this issue?
Thanks Mally
Hi, here is my simple fix for getting VBgooglemaps working when AME 2.5.5 is installed.
Go to the Plugin Manager and edit the "AME : Permission Hide" plugin (global_start).
Add in the beginning of the plugin code the following code:
if (THIS_SCRIPT != 'vbgooglemapme') {
At the end of the plugin code add a closing "}"
that's it

Gamelobby uses our products (http://www.drivethruonline.com) on his web site and contacted me in relation to the error that appeared after he made the above mentioned patch. The error was actually a side effect of bad PHP syntax in the patch. This syntax error then caused other Global Start plugins to fail. To solve both the pin display issue and have the AME:Hide Permission plugin work correctly do the following:
1. Go to AdminCP >> Plugins & Products >> Plugin Manager
2. Edit the AME : Permission Hide plugin
3. Insert the following at the very top of the plugin
if (THIS_SCRIPT != 'vbgooglemapme') {
at the very bottom of the plugin append the following:
}
Save the changes and test vbgooglemaps to make sure the pins are showing up and no other errors are being displayed.
Hope this helps!

Installed this and it worked great.
The forum was then splitted, and all members inherited to the new forum. Now the "new" map shows all member groups from the old forum, i.e. members that were moderators on the old forum are still shown as moderators on the new version of the map. Can anyone tell me why the member's group is not updated?

We would really like to use it as a "riding area" map rather than a member location map. So, for our implementation we would need anybody to be able to submit multiple locations.
If not, does anyone know of a mod that will do what we are looking for?

I found the problem with this to be that we had installed Automatic Media Embedder. With that mod enabled, it will not allow markers to show. With AME disabled, the map works fine in 3.8.4.

Well good news. I took it upon myself to see if I could get this mod to work on vb4 and I'm happy to report that it's about 85% there. So far I've got the map display working including current user locations, location set, location delete, and online/offline. All the settings also seem to be working (well at least as good as they did in 3.8.4).
Not working:
Enabling the small overview map makes user markers quit working (did this to me on 3.8.4 too), Turning on mouseover makes user markers stop working (did this to me on 3.8.4), Member List shows the right number of entries but all the data is blank, no map link in the Community menu, and no "Find Me" link in the post headers.
I'll keep plugging away at it until I get it all working. I also need to figure out how to do the product installation part of it as well.

Ok I talked with StonyArc and even though he is working on an OFFICIAL vB4 release he has authorized me release my vB4 version of this mod (3.0.1-vb4 for lack of a better version).
INSTALL:
1. To Install, unpack the contents of the zip file onto your computer.
2. Upload the contents of the "upload" directory AS IS so that the vbgooglemapme.php file
resides in your forum root
3. In AdminCP go to "Manage Products" and click the "Add/Import" link at the bottom.
4. Under "Import Product", click the "Browse" button and specify the "product-vbgooglemapme.xml" file.
5. Click "Import"
To UPGRADE from 3.0.1 (if it's still installed after you upgraded to vB4):
1. In AdminCP, go to the VBGooglemapME Settings and record your googlemap API key,
2. In AdminCP, go to the "Manage Products".
3. Scroll down to VBGooglemapME and uninstall the product. (user markers are not deleted so existing markers)
4. Unpack the zip file.
5. Upload the contents of the "upload" directory. (The only files that changed are vbgooglemapme.php and incluces/functions_vbgooglemapme.php so copying those is sufficient)
6. import the new product file.
7. Go to VBGoogleMapME Settings and put in your googlemap API key (and any other settings).
Note: The permissions will not be correct when you upgrade so you will need to rebuild the bitmask by visiting the Usergroup Manager. The masks should rebuild on their own but make sure your group permissions are as you need them. Also, the "Member Map" link resides on in the Community drop down menu which is visible when you click the "Forum" tab.
NEW FEATURES:
In addition to being ported to vB4 I added a few features that had been suggested on this thread.
You can now select "Terrain" as a default map mode.
Terrain is a selectable mode when viewing the map.
You can now zoom the map using a Mouse Scroll wheel.
If you have any questions regarding THIS VERSION please feel free to contact me here or via PM.
Enjoy!!
UPDATE: Apparently I missed one of the fixes that ZeroHour had posted so I'm uploading a new version that includes this fix.

Check your xml for " or ' or ! characters or other characters that broke it.
It's probably the last entry ;)
Remove it, then save markers.xml
Then visit your actual entry on the map (/vbgooglemapme.php?do=addelement), and click save again, even if you didn't make changes. Visit your main map and its likely fixed again for the short term.
