good idea derekivey, before installing the hack are we also able to log queries from guests ?
Snake

That's a great idea but will probably slow down the server load.

Yes it logs all users including guests.
Also to all of you who think it will have much of an effect on the server load, I think it wouldn't. It just executes one query when every they do a search, the query just inserts a row into a table, so it shouldn't have much of an effect...

I have fixed the bug with it not showing up in the Admin CP nav. The cpnav xml file was incorrectly named. Please upload the attached file instead to the includes/xml folder. The zip file has been updated too to include the new file.
Thanks,
Derek
Looks nice, will it be possible in the future to show stats for most used queries and such ?

that would be very cool. sort of being able to sort not only via user name, but also via topic, etc. that would be very helpful and i think good for setting up advertising rates???

Hi, great hack!
One question: Very often I don´t find anything under "query". Can´t believe that so many people don´t fill in a word they are searching for. Maybe a bug?

I'll have to take a look. I will get back to you on this.

They most likely haven't entered anything into the search. It could be spiders or something doing it maybe. I am going to release a new version soon and have it not log the blank ones, to prevent it from wasting server resources and because that is useless logging blank queries lol.

Hi Derek,
After pruning users search results I receive the following:
Could not find phrase 'pruned_search_log_successfully'.
Thanks for any help :)

Just ignore it for now. It looks like I forgot to add that phrase. I will have it fixed in the next version.

Question - which searches does this log, i.e. does it log everytime someone does a getnew search ?
derekivey
08-04-2006, 05:46 PM
Nope it doesn't look like it logs the getnew ones. It just logs regular searches.
Paul M

Good, it would be very bad to log every getnew, I might take a look at this then. :)

Thanks for creating his hack derek.
Will you be porting it to 3.6?
derekivey

Should work fine on 3.6, but I haven't tested it. I will see if it does once I get some time.

It should work, but I haven't tested it on 3.6. Others say it works fine for them though, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Derek
Great I will install this as soon as it will have stats available. Stat is what make this so handy...

This mod actually works on 4.x as well you just need to rename the database table because VB4 already has one called "searchlog" and there's some SQL queries that need to be updated to the new name...
I made these changes for you... The attached zip has a new product.xml file and a new searchlog.php file... replace the files in the original mod with these and follow the install instructions... absolutely no code was changed other than the database name (to searchlog2) so this is still completely the original coder's mod. You could make the same changes with a text editor and search and replace if you want. If the original coder wants this will be removed, but all credit still goes to him for this useful mod.
