Have a look at Right Column on Every Page (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=94495&highlight=right+column) by amykhar and Vertical Site Navigation (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=99318) by myself. If modified to your needs and used in conjuction with each other, this should help.

Sorted it anyway with the other mod. Why hack a mod when there is another one that does what you want it to do anyway?
