**Before Making An Add on **
Please consult with me before making an add on to this hack. As it is my work and such, the add ons that you are trying to make for it may be in the next release and/or premium version.

What does this do?
This hack allows you to add more fields to your threads besides just the title and message. This is extremely usefull in order to specify certain things in a thread in a way that people are more aware of it and such. There are several types of fields you can add and several features for the hack.

What features does this hack provide?
Add extra fields to threads. These include:
Text fields
Select Drop Down Fields
Radio Fields
Checkbox Fields
Enhanced extra threadfields manager - Premium Only *new
Search through fields within forums (forumdisplay.php) - Premium Only *new
Search through fields in search.php - Premium Only
Control order in which fields are displayed
Edit thread fields via the "edit thread" page
Edit thread fields via the "edit post" page - Premium Only *new
Set the forums in which you want fields to appear in - Premium Only (light version may set forumid's, but are a tad more limited as to how many)

Show fields automatically in thread
Show fields automatically in forumdisplay
Make a field required - Premium Only
Control what forums the field is shown in
Enable/Disable system
Enable/Disable automatic showing fields in thread

5 Easy Steps
Step 1. Import the following product: product-extra_threadfields.xml
Step 2. Upload the files in the upload folder.
Step 3. Do the edits located below
Step 4. Edit the newly added options in admincp as you please
Step 5. Enjoy the hack.

F.A.Q
Q. How do i get extra fields to show in the "edit post" page?
A. This is only available in the premium version.

Q. If i do not want the fields to be shown automatically, can i do it manually?
A. You can manually show fields in threads or posts by using $thread[fieldx] in the postbit or showthread template. Replace x with the ID of the field you want. To find the ID of the field go to admincp >> Extra Threadfields >> Extra Fields Manager, and hover over a field. The number after fieldid = will be the id of your field.

Q. I updated all of the options, i installed it perfectly, i did all edits, and still the options are not showing when i go to add a new thread. What do i do?
A. It is believed that you have a hack interfering with this one. Take away the edit that you did for putting $extrathreadfields inside the newthread template, and do this instead:

Add a field, make sure you include the ID in which you want the forum to be in, and then make a new thread in that forum and you will see the extra fields appear. This is assuming you did the template edits and installed correctly ;].

Do you have "automatically show fields in threads" enabled? Also, did you fill out the extra field?

PS: Make sure you use the correct forumid of the forum(s) you want it to show on, seperated by a comma.

I think you have an error somewhere in your newthread template or something. I logged into your site admincp and deleted stuff from the newthread template, yet it was still showing, when i'd add text, it wouldn't show. I'm not sure why, however, something is wrong with that template.

I just deleted the whole prefix and title fields in your newthread template and they are still showing. Something really isn't right with that Bashy. I suggest looking into it if possible.

Same here, i have tried to edit a thread within a forum alreayd containing Extra Threadfields, using both the Quick Edit and Advanced Edit templates and in both cases they are not displayed.

Ah. You have to go to "Edit Thread".

If you've ever noticed, you can't even edit a thread title by using quick edit or advanced edit. That will just edit the title of the post. To edit the title of the thread, and extra fields, you have to click "Edit Thread" from the tools drop down.

Wow I really like this but before I install I need to make sure or check if this feature exists.

I want these extra fields to only be available when starting a thread in a certain forums. For example I only want these fields to be available in my Selling Forums and no other forums. I also would like an option to force the member to fill in that field like the cost field since my selling forum rules are you must post a selling price and by doing it this way they are forced to fill in the cost field

Opps just read that you can specify which forums the fields will show up in but can you force the member to fill on the field you want filled out.

Example is I create a new filed and I can choose to force user to fill on filed (YES,NO)

gio~logist, you can add option for choose color of the text in "Extra Fields"? (Admin can add color text by BBcode, Ex: <font color=" red " >Text</font>. I think if not chose color, the text of Extra Fields look very boring.

- Besides, you can develope Extra Fields can add images (Field add URL small icons who Thread Starter want add it to the thread). I think, in very case and issue if small image will make the thread have extra filed look very good and beauty.

You can do that by taking out the <tr> in the newthread_extra_fields template. However, it will more than likely mess up the whole structure of your layout.

3) Turn of the setting that automatically displays them in forumdisplay and put them where you'd like manually via edit template using $threadinfo[fieldx] (see above for more info). If $threadinfo doesn't work, use $thread. I will comfirm that tommorow.

I can't manage to display extra fields in the forums display of threads (as opposed to the display of posts in a single thread)

I attached your screenshot showing the extra fields, and a screenshot of my own, showing that I was able to insert a bit of text into the thread summary, but the $extrafields variable isn't doing anything

Wow I really like this but before I install I need to make sure or check if this feature exists.

I want these extra fields to only be available when starting a thread in a certain forums. For example I only want these fields to be available in my Selling Forums and no other forums. I also would like an option to force the member to fill in that field like the cost field since my selling forum rules are you must post a selling price and by doing it this way they are forced to fill in the cost field

I have this installed on my forum. I installed it with the purpose of having users check a box before posting a thread in our articles forum agreeing that they wrote the article. At first I added it as a checkbox, but when I did a few test posts, I would go to edit the thread (and the post), and it would be unchecked on both. So I added the same thing as a radio button. Again, when I went to edit the thread it wouldn't be selected, even if I selected it when I submitted the post. What's wrong here?

I was thinking about that, however, the areas in which this touches is a bit sensitive and doing it so that it automatically makes those edits may be difficult for those that have custom styles.

Found a conflict with First post on every page of thread hack. With this hack running and with the "Show First Post" option turned on, the first post actually disappears. Turning the "Show First Post" setting off for the forum allows the post to re-appear.

The problem was that you somehow uninstalled the product, yet left the tables for the product installed. Meaning that the hack was still installed in your database but not on your site. Anyways, all is fine now.

You'd have to edit the plugins themselves, search for the html in the plugin, and edit it accordingly.

I'm not sure I understand. The problem is, I enable users only to edit their threads on our site for 1 week. VB only lets you set this on the entire site, not per subforum/forum. I would like to allow users to edit your "Extra Threadfields" for a longer period of time (or forever). I wouldn't mind if they could also edit their thread as long is it was on a specified forum/subforum. How exactly would I do that? By the way -- haven't installed it yet but will once I get this part figured out.

Question: Would it be possible to have these new fields editable by members even if the thread itself isn't editable?
My problem: Vbulletin lets you specify how long a thread/post can be edited, but it only does it on a global basis (not per forum). This causes real problems with for sale/wanted or other types of forums. So if these new fields could be edited even when the thread isn't editable, that could fix the problem. Or perhaps the fields can have an edit time-limit switch or setting themselves (just as threads/posts do).

Here's another thing, and thanks for the uber-fast service ... when you move (or copy) a thread from one forum to another, even if the same fields are activated in both forums, it doesn't bring them along.

That's because moving them moves ALL DATA. Copying them just makes a replica, i may need to add a plugin. I will look into this.

On the left there is a link Add/Import Product : Select from your hd the file product-extra_threadfields.xml and import ;)

Step 2 : You have to upload with a Ftp client into your forum dir.
You have 2 dir admincp and includes in file... Put this dir in same place on your forum dir. ;)

Gio~logist, what I wanted was to display it manually without using $extrathreadfields in newthread template just like how you show it in FAQ how to put it in postbit & showthread template.

You want to insert the fileds in the newthread template manually? All that can be controlled in the admincp. You can control order and everything. What is it that you'd like to change?

Yes, I want to insert the fields in the newthread template manually. I actually create another hardcode template to organize the fields, make it look different than the original "New Thread". I'm planing a support forum and use your hack to make a question form for members to submit!

Just like the title of the thread, these fields can only be edited via edit thread. Perhaps i will see if i can somehow get it to show in edit post for the premium version.

That would be cool. The only way I see to let uses edit their threads is to allow then to delete their own threads via the user-group permissions.
