Like i said, at the moment it is only available by clicking "edit thread". However, i will look into having this applicable in the edit post as well.

I'm getting ready to install this, finally! You asked a while ago about new features, so here's some more requests.

1) Any date field should include a popup calendar when editing that field (I may have already suggested this)

2) How about a Postfields version (another hack), where user defined fields could be tracked on a Post level? I know you've seen many questions on this thread from people who were trying to do this, not realizing this was a thread level hack. But a Post level hack would be great, too!!

You need to be able to edit the thread in order to edit the extra fields.
Most of the time this privilege is only available to mods and admins.

What would be nice is to use AJAX and allow the user to double click on the extra field to edit it.

We hacked it so that the default search includes the extra fields.

If you're using FullText search, you need to add the extra fields to the full text index in MySql. Then change 6 lines or so in search.php so that the default search query includes your extra fields and you're good to go.

Installed premium version but the edit functionality for extra fields doesn't seem to work. Anybody got this working on the premium?

You need to edit the thread, not the post.

I'm sorry for not being able to find the answer through this long thread.

Once a new thread is saved, the edit page does not have the extra fields on it, does that mean that once submitted, these extra fields are not available for modification? Or am I missing something?

Someone asked before, but how do you choose custom fields for the forumdisplay (as opposed to showing all fields for that designated forum). The code posted in the opening thread seems to only be for within the post/thread itself, and not the forumdisp level. Many thanks in advance, considering getting the premium version :)

Just installed it ..... everything is working great except I'm facing the same problem as Bashy, all is working good except when I view the post I can't view the extra fileds. Great hack but I have a few questions.

1. When I use the threadadmin function I can also change the extrafields but this
does not work when I click on EDIT in the first thread. Can this be implemented?

2. Currently in postbit all extrafields are in one line. Can I somehow include a <br /> after each theadfield to have each field in a single row?

3. When I copy a thread from a source forum where the hack is enabled, can I somehow get the postbit extrafields in the target forum thread even if the hack is not active there?

Example: I have an application forum where I want to use this hack.
After the user filled out everything I make a copy to my internal forum so that the staff can talk about it. Now the copied thread does not contain the extrathreadfields anymore which means important info is lost.

I am running a multilingual board so it would be nice to be able to enter Custom Fields based on the language. Some kind of Fieldsets.
Example:
Create a forum two times. Once in language A, other time in language B.
If guest, show default language, otherwise check users language and use the corresponding fieldset.

What I mean is this;

So the problem is that the default search from forums index ONLY searches topic title and content, and not the extra fields too. You have to go to the advanced search page, and search by the specific extra field to get your results.

Isn't there any way to just make the default search function to look through the extra fields as well? The author of the hack says this is not a part of his hack...

Please, if anyone has done this or thinks that this is easy to fix help me out.

Check the unistall code to see if it drops them.

I just checked, there is code to remove the extra fields during unistall. It would be a simple matter to remove that feature.

Any reason that you can't use HTML when creating a field? I need to have images as one of my selectable regions, and everytime I save a field, it cuts off the end of the HTML code, creating errors. Anyway around this?

Okay, it's not just cutting off code. It's cutting off multiple selection fields if they have a lot of text in them. I just tried a long sentence 10 times and it cut the sentence down to two and chopped the third. What can I do to fix that? (Other then putting all my relevant images in a shorter directory?)

EDIT: Quick question. Is there any way to move the radio buttons and check boxes to the other side of their text? The way it is now, it aligns the text smack dab against the text for the next field, making it look like it belongs with something else. I've already accidentally selected the wrong field several times during testing, and I'd already told myself before installing not to do that. I can imagine this being done often by our users, and if if radio buttons are checked accidentally, there's no way to deselect them when you go to edit (barring creating an N/A field, which I'd rather not have). I think if you switch sides, you'll get the formatting like what you have with radio buttons beside the post icons. Just a guess, but I think vB is styled to have the radio and check fields to the right of it's text/icon, judging from the large spacing it puts to the close spacing it puts to the right of those fields and the huge gap it puts on the left. (It's also easy to confuse folks, when the spacing is exactly the same on the post icons below, but the alignment is different.)

I was hoping to be able to use this mod to be able to categorise posts. For such application, a search or filter function would be essential.

Ideally I guess I need something halfway between what the Premium version supposedly offers and what your mod offers.

thanks for that nice hack! :) I am able to create a new thread with setting the extra thread fields and the thread creates without any errors. But as soon as I am saving the edited extra thread fields, it displays an error on the vbulletin redirection after editiing:
Parse error: parse error, unexpected $ in /home/xxx/www/forum/postings.php(1467) : eval()'d code on line 49
The thread itself gets updated, but not the extra fields.

Any help on this? I am using vb 3.6.8 Patch Level 2

Does this hack create a new db field for each field in the thread table? So when you edit a thread you can change the values independantly? (That's what I'm looking for).

If so - fantastic!! Might be an idea to be able to set a charcter limit for fields too?

Does this hack have an adverse effect on the server? (does it add much load? Everything indexed ok in the db?)

Would it be easy enough to call any of the thread fields data in a custom script? (via a simple mysql query)

I have reworked with this hack to allow editing the thread fields by editing the first message (by posting user or admin) along with several other additional features. This is working on my board (www.waccobb.net see this forum (http://www.waccobb.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8)) I don't have time to gather all the pieces to post it. Someone has begun to help me with this so I'm hoping to post it at vb.org soon. S/he is a novice programmer and could probably use some help.

And while I am at it, I am looking for a journeyman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journeyman) programmer to join my team. I have excellent interface ideas along with how they might would work. But, this interfears with that..

I have hopes of using this hack as a basis of a new hack that uses a data dictionary to give you complete control over how new thread fields are used.

Key features would include:
Customized prompts
Validation
Search support
Sort support
Usergroup integration
Extensible (design in hooks for customizations)
I am looking for partners that can contribute either programming or funding to the effort. I think it would be well worth a pro (paid) version with good support and it would do well. It could easily generate a fair bit of paid add-on services to help users install and customize it for their own needs.

I was the lead designer/developer of a similar data driven reporting system for FoxPro (http://info.foxfirereporting.com/) . I would be happy to lead/coordinate this new effort and release all product rights to other team members. I just want to be able to use the product!

Make sure your template edits are still there. I had the same issue.

no you have to go "Thread Tools in the navbar* to be able to edit it

yea I know thats how I had to but I didnt know if there is a way to fix that. I'm using it as like a kind of classfied section and I want my users to be able to hit edit post and be able to edit diff fields. I had tried the other hack that puts it into the message body but when you hit edit you get all the code and eh I'm not a fan of that. Trynna get the best of both worlds.

I Use it at a Shopping Mall and if User change there Price, it must be edited by Admin.

I am using this to let the users input an url ... the problem is the text box is truncating the url.

Is there any way to lengthen the allowed input to say 200 characters?

eg. my url is - http://lazyrecords.co.uk/forum/acapellas-13/sugarhill-gang-rappers-delight-acapella-ableton-warped-20452.html

but it's truncating at

Lengthen that to whatever you wish.

NOTE - The mysql field (field1) is limited to 100 characters so if you want more than that you'll have to edit the "field1" length in the mysql table - "thread"

I added the field $extrafields to the postbit legacy template and the contents of the variable only appeared in the first post. Look like it will be more complicated than I thought.

Modifications only get sent to the Graveyard when they author requests they get sent there, or if it's been determined there's a danger in the modification.

If User buy the Pro Version and asked in the official Support Board for a lot of Weeks about the port to VB4. And no Answer comes from the Coder, it´s not a good sign.

See the Geek Scripts(Gars,Gal etc) and Photoplog.
Morgan say´s in the Supportboards, that the Scripts will be ported, but there is no timeline.

No question went unanswered for weeks on the Pro website. In fact, I don't even know how you'd think you can make that assumption being that you don't even have access to paid support.


Moving on, I will be updating both the light and premium versions to vB4 very soon ;)

You are, of course, talking about a Pre-Sales question, and not a support question. And you are also assuming he already had the answer when it was first asked. Communicating with buyers is great. When you haven't bought anything yet, you get your answer when you get your answer. There's all those paying customers to deal with, ya know.

i want to require a field only if a certain thread prefix is selected

for example if tread prefix is House for Sale, i want house address to be required
if prefix is House for Rent, i don't want the field to be required

how do i go about getting this done? ( im a novice, newbie level)

Would love to buy it but few issues ,
1. I created required field , if it is not filed out user can still submit and is taken to msg page , the submit option should not work unless the field is filled out ,

2. I have over 200 forums , the Forums To Include This In option is kinda a joke with such forum amount , i thought that if I enter the main forum id in all sub forums will also have the field visible but no that is not the case.

3. Require fields for specific user groups option is also not there

So please advise if these options are in premium version so I can proceed with the purchase
