good idea but would suck for those on dial up and aol's junky service that share the ip's with people. might loose some registered users.

Agree with GoTTi, unless you have an old account or a business account, most ISP's no longer issue static IP's. Nice idea though.

Hmmm Never thaught about that.
Might have to rethink this one a bit.

Many cable providers do issue static IPs. This was done by a request though, so it's not my idea. ;)

Great idea, but it will prevent people using public/free internet from signing up. I'm not sure, but wouldn't this also block office people or large companies? Just a thought.

Yes, it would. I, personally, don't see any use to this hack... However, someone asked me to do it, so I did :) If anyone likes it - feel free to install, if not - feel free to not install. You are not obligated :)

You are not obligated :)Isn't that strange - I did exactly the same thing by request the other day - but they want an exceptions list adding (which I must get round to doing ;)).

Wont this just alienate a large bulk of AOL users from accessing your forums?

If it is checking post IPs also then no doubt.

It would help if you could select which areas to check. It may be better off to only check the registration IP as you would have a much less chance of a false positive.

Wont this just alienate a large bulk of AOL users from accessing your forums? It's about time AOL started using proxy servers that pass on the client IP.

hmm what about this:

do not display a error message but put the user join requiest in the moderation queue even if that is not enabled in the Control pannel

For example I want to stop clones on my forum but I want to manually check clone suspicions... I cannot check all the join requests because there are so many... but if there were a way to check only the suspicious ones ;)

Thats a good idea,

Or have an IP whitelist so you can add the AOL proxies in to the white list.

is there any chance this could be modded so that it checks for the same IP addres within x hours (or mins)?

That could help controll spammers/trolls

The message the users get is:

The registration of new users is temporarily disabled.

How can we customise it ?
