Hello everyone!

Here I present you my very first vBulletin Style.
Since upgrading my forums to 3.5.1 I needed a new style but I wanted something original, something own and finally I came up with this.

I was aiming at something a bit eyecandy but yet easy to the eye.
(While keeping the blueish colors of the old style I had, since we got used to that)

Maybe you like it :)

Some features of this style that make it different to the default style:

Borders around categories on forumhome to better seperate them from each other
Completely new (redesigned) navigation bar
Complete new set of status icons (for forums, posts and PMs)
Complete new set of buttons
There's a seperator between the sticky and the "normal" threads
An additional navigation/breadcrumb bar at the bottom of threadview for easier navigation.
(don't have to scroll to the top to go the a parent forum of the current thread)

Attached are some screenshots, but you can also preview it live on my own forums --> here <-- (http://forum.skill-club.com/)

Every feedback is apreciated so that my next style may get better since I already have some nice ideas :)
Oh, and if you reall go to install my style let me know! ;)

First Skin...? get outta here... your obviously gonna make some very nice skins in the future! - I'll look forward to that so will many others im sure, im sure you don't need me giving you some advice, but i'll share some of the guidelines i use when i think about designing a skin for vB...

KISS, Keep it Stupid Simple! - I try to use very small (filesize) graphix to reduce bandwith overheads and as such i take this principle and apply that to the design, i think...how can i make something stylish with minimal fuss... either dark or light? (thats my first question) then start with the alt1, alt2 colours first which i spend time working out how they compliment each other...anyways, i've started to go towards designing skins which have an exisiting theme/influence on my design, my C64 skin is eveidence to that...next? maybe an Atari 2600 :) who knows.... nice skin btw!

looks nice. my users want a dark theme. Are u going to fully support this? Like when updates are released? if so, how long can we expect after a release from vb will we have to wait for an updated style from you?

I just noticed, is it only in fixed width or do u have 100% as well?

@b6gm6n:
Thanks for the tips with your guidlines!
I'll try to follow those more on my next skin :)

Hmm.... what exactely do you mean by "double navbar"?
A feature of your board, or a problem with my skin?
Can you give ma a screenshot about that? I'm sure we can get this worked out! :)

I'll try to do my best as my free time allows me :classic:
However since code MODs have become not so common since 3.5.1 chances are high that I also upgrade my own board, so I need an updated skin as well :D
There shouldn't be too much time between a new vB and an updated skin, denpends how quick I figure out what has to be fixed :)

As for the width:
It's not fixed as in 800px width, it's actually an 88% width.
But there's an additional .XML in the archive that has 100% width.
So you can choose wichever you like better :)

Wierd. I installed this style (and btw, thank you, it is awesome) but my columns don't line up. Look at your own site at the "Last Post" column. It does not line up with the other "last post" columns. the same thing is happening to me.

BTW, mine is a parent style so it is not pulling anything from any other style.

Ah, I see!
You have quite some more stuff in your NavBar!
So all we would have to do is to implement all your additional links into the header/navbar of this style.
Well, that can be done :)
Is all of that put into your "navbar" template?

How can I get my logo banner centered in the header?
In your AdminCP go to Style-Manager -> Edit-Templates (of this style)

Double click on the "header" template and look for this part:
<table border="0" width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr align="left" valign="top">
<td>
<a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions" /></a>
Change the value that's marked in bold to read like this one:
<table border="0" width="100%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<tr align="[b]center" valign="top">
<td>
<a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" /></a>

That should center your logoimage in the header.
Don't forget not to put any whitespace in the image as that might affect centering to be a bit off ;)

Wierd. I installed this style (and btw, thank you, it is awesome) but my columns don't line up. Look at your own site at the "Last Post" column. It does not line up with the other "last post" columns. the same thing is happening to me.

Yes, that's right.
It's because every category is now a table of its own.
But the link PtP posted explains pretty good how to set them to a fixed width to make them align to each other again.
If you have trouble with this drop me a PM and I'll send you a modified template :up:

All modifications applied to the templates in the default style to integrate the hack(s) just have to be re-done on the same templates in every other style where you'd like to use them.

If the hack has an installer that does it automatically try to re-install the hack so the new style(s) are affected as well.

Hi everyone!

I updated my style to be compatible with the changes of vBulletin 3.5.2

There are now two .ZIPs to download, the original one (that was made for 3.5.1) and a new one "SCBrushedBlue_vB352.zip" that is the updated version for the new vB release :)

Glad you like it :)

For the image:
Looks like it's supposed to be the title image.
Did you delete that setting in the style manager?
Either set the title image to the the clear.gif OR go to Style Manager -> Edit Templates -> header

find this line:
<a href="$vboptions[forumhome].php$session[sessionurl_q]"><img src="$stylevar[titleimage]" border="0" alt="$vboptions[bbtitle]" /></a>
delete it, save the template and that should do it.

For the logo:
Either just replace the logo gif in the "misc" folder of the style, or in the "Style Mager" -> "All style options" point it to the location of your title image/logo :)

In the "All Style Options" it's the "Title Image" setting.

But if you HAVE to remove it.... I wouldn't kill you for it ;)

You have to make the .GIF transparent where you want the background to shine through.

Somewhat like this:

Depends on what program you are using.
First of your gfx prog has to support transparent .GIFs.
All you do then is to draw your image with the desired transparency in your program and save/export it as .gif - the transparency is then saved with it.

Like said, HOW to do it depends on your gfx prog.
There are millions of tutorials out there on how to do it with most programs.

da prez

i use photoshop.

go to file > new, set dimensions to what ya want, and then look for the background box,
hit dropdown and choose transparent, that is how ya make a new one.

or just load the picture and use eraser, if it doesn't go tranparent, chage image mode.

Hey Hellcat, I just installed v3arcade today and I receive an error

line: 94
char: 12
error: invalid property value
code: 0
url: blah blah arcade.php

It appears only with this theme, Any Ideas or has anyone else seen this.
Allough I've asked or help on the arcade thread all indications are pointing at the theme.
Not 100% but close.

Thanks.

@ravenes:
The navbar can be edited to whatever one likes, so yes, you can put in your custom navbar with all your links in there, should be no problem :)

@Mr_TriGGeR:
I think that could be done with some IF conditionals in the templates, so the stuff you do not want at the loginpage just doesn't get shown.

And yes, I'm going to update all my styles to 3.5.3 :)

To upgrade just re-import the style XML by using the "merge into style" option.

Hellcat

That wouldn't delete any of my template modifications will it?
Unfortunately it would :ermm:
Since all templates are re-imported and overwritten.

I have the same problem on my own forums when updating vB and the styles.

However, the difference 3.5.2 -> 3.5.3 is very, very small, almost insignificant....
If you have the 3.5.2 version installed there is no real need to upgrade the style, since the only change is in the "forumhome" template, the removal of one "size=auto" from one table.
All other templates affected in 3.5.3 are not customized in this style and are therefore up to date (=inherited from current default).
