ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo Online Status
Looking for the vBulletin 3.6.x version (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=159650)?
Developer: adb22791 (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=111319) - originally written for 3.0.x by BeerMonster (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/member.php?u=46485)
Current Version: 1.0.6
vBulletin Version: Tested and Working on 3.5.7
Edits: 2 Template Edits (3 if you use both postbit and postbit_legacy)
Please note: This modification only works on vBulletin versions 3.5.3 and later. This modification has not been tested on vBulletin 3.6.x yet.
What it does:
This modification displays your AIM/ICQ/MSN/Yahoo Online Status in the postbit_legacy or postbit templates, as well as the member info page, using an icon. Uploading the modification will add a new setting category called IM Online Status, where you can choose the server you use to display a users IM Online Status. Server lists, etc, can be found at OnlineStatus.org (http://onlinestatus.org/). There is also an option built in to turn this mod off and display regular IM Online Status Icons, should you have problems.
To Install:
Download the .zip file attached here, and upload the product via the plugin manager in your admin CP. Then open Install.txt in the zip file and follow the instructions for template edits.
To Upgrade:
If you are running version 1.0.5, follow the instructions in 1.0.6's Upgrade.txt. If you are running later than version 1.0.5, please upgrade to 1.0.5 and then 1.0.6.
Current Bugs: (all current bugs fixed in 1.0.6)
-None Reported
Support
Please ask for support in this thread only. I will try my best to answer whatever question you have, or to fix whatever problem you are solving. Please also make sure that an issue you are having has not already been reported.
Changelog
(Please note this is a limited changelog, the full changelog is included in the zip file).
Version 1.0.6 (5th January 2007) Updated product to work with vBulletin 3.5.7
Fixed misc errors in Memberinfo
Cleaned up formatting
Version 1.0.5 (16th June 2006) Incorrect template variables fixed ("$post[username]" and "$userinfo[username]")
MEMBERINFO bug fixed
Documentation Updated
Streamlined other attributes of product
A few notes about custom icons... I have found through testing that using custom icons on your web server can make the online status icons load a lot faster. I suggest you download the icons from whichever online status server you use, and upload them to your forum directory (I put mine in images/icons). This is not necessary, just a little tip.
Please Please Please remember that even tough this hack is stable, things can still go wrong. I cannot and will not be held responsible for anything this hack may do to your forum or theme. As always, I recommend that you backup your database before applying this hack. Also please note that I reserve the right to remove this mod at any time.
If you use this mod please click Install. (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/vborg_miscactions.php?do=installhack&threadid=101437)
Thanks,

Old Versions
Since the latest Online Status Icon hack doesn't work on 3.5.0 or 3.5.1, I have decided to re-release the older version as-is. This version has no support and I strongly reccomend you upgrade to vBulletin 3.5.3 or later.

Yes, there is actually, but I did not include it in this version. After
$vboptions[imstatusurl]/icq/$post[icq]
Add:
/onurl=www.yoururl.com/icon1.gif/offurl=www.yoururl.com/icon2.gif/unknownurl=www.yoururl.com/icon3.gif
I will add this to the documentation, and see what I can do about adding this to the Admin CP in later versions.

Great mod but I discovered one little hiccup. I had previously modified "first_visit_message" and noticed it was still coming up instead of the new pharases in the mod.
I went to the phrase editor and saw that I had to "Copy default text" to replace my modifed text and then save.
It's working great now.
To recap: On the off chance you have modifed your welcome text you must go to the phrase editor and copy the new default text to the editor and then save.
Thanks.

The images are located on the remote server that you define in your Admin CP.
Calvorn: I will look into that and see what I can do about making it work in future versions.
Thanks,

Nice Hack, but what about the time to load a page in vBulletin, as there has to be a Lookup for each Users Online-Status while preparing/loading the Postbit-Information... ?
Won't that slow down the forums ?
Does the Status-Information gets cached for each user per threadview ?

It depends on what server you are using. In all reality you can download the script at OnlineStatus.org (http://www.onlinestatus.org) and run it on your own server. Unfortunatly, OnlineStatus.org has been down for the past couple of days, however, when it comes back up, you may be able to find a fast server to connect to, or you can just make your own.

Random question, as it's new in 3.5.1: Is there support for Skype as well, since it was added in recently, or does Skype not do this yet?
adb22791

Skype is being added in in vBulletin 3.5.2 (see Kier's thread here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162169)). I am already looking for a way to tell somebodies Skype online status, which I will add to the hack when 3.5.2 comes out :).

Interesting. What MSN client are you using? Unfortunatly onlinestatus.org is still down (I don't maintain that site), so all you can use is the default server, and that server may not be able to detect your MSN Online Status.
If onlinestatus.org stays down for the rest of the week I may setup their status indicator script on my server and you guys could use that URL.

AFAIK there is no way to show the status of a user using msn.
There was a hole in previous versions but currently it is not possible. It is only possible for msn users that have specified that there is no need for someone to be on their allow list to talk to them ...which are a minority...

Sad to say I uninstalled.. with that server it was taking forever to find status and no icons appeared when they were down..
once you get default icons loded and then they change only if user is online or goes offline then maybe I will re-install.. I love the idea but just to many issues when the server is down..

Yes. They have to allow anybody to see their online status, otherwise it won't be able to read their online status.
cbr929rrerion: Yeah, unfortunatly onlinestatus.org is still down. I am searching for other servers though, and will hopefully have a nice list soon.

Unfortunatly I am still waiting for onlinestatus.org to come back from being "offline". I am in the process of trying to get in contact with them, or find another script to use.
The next version of this hack will most likely support custom images :).

Interesting. It should be right under this code...
<if condition="$show['reputation']"><div><if condition="$show['reppower']">$vbphrase[reppower]: $post[reppower]</if>$post[reputationdisplay]</div></if>
How much have you customized your theme? That could be part of it. Either way, you are basically replacing the normal AIM icons with icons that talk to my script.
This hack should work fine in vb 3.5.0. I will be releasing an update for vb 3.5.2 later tonight or tomorrow in which case you won't be able to use this hack for vb 3.5.0 or 3.5.1, but I can and will probably keep the old version available as a download.
Installed and works great......thanks

Well, we're currently just testing stuff on a closed board with only a few members around, so there actually are just a few icq icons. But these are all questionmarks. This is the server I'm using: http://www.the-server.net:8002/

Hmm, you would have to add a new user profile field, then add the required template, then add the code from my hack. Also more admin fields would have to be created, it would be very complicated and I would have to turn this hack into an extension (which may happen, but hopefully not for awhile). I can look into it (I am looking into Skype support right now) for you though.

The problem is not using the field, the problem is setting vbulletin up so that users can choose to display that data. Unfortunatly that would make this hack at the very least an Extension, more likely a code mod, which isn't where I want to take this project, at least not yet.

Another quick question: have you made the template edits for 1.0.2? Those might have an effect, although I think that it is more likely there is a bug on my end. Also, what version of vBulletin are you running?
Thanks,
Edit: Ok, I have identified the problem. I will be releasing an update tomorrow afternoon (1.0.3) which will fix said problem. Thanks in advance for your patience and cooperation.

I think this has something to do with your MSN settings. In order for the hack to detect the status of MSN you need to allow all people to see your MSN status through your MSN settings. I believe you also need to use the standard MSN client.

Your best bet is to make a custom icon that is the same dimensions, only white (or whatever color the background of your postbit template is), and set that as your AIM, MSN, ICQ, YIM Offline and Unknown custom icons.

I have had this installed for quite sometim (forgot to click install sorry)
Anyway, it has never shown any of there members statuses other than
offline or is it unknow, not sure which, anyway its never showed us as
online....
Hi,
You can find a pretty good list of servers here. (http://www.onlinestatus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10)You can also browse that website for more about the Online Status script.

Until they put a code hook in for template edits in postbit and posbit_legacy I can't do much with plugins. But 2 template edits is still better than all the code edits you would have to do on 3.0.x ;)
The features list is currently...
Features to be added:
-Ability for users to turn on or off the option to see online status icons
-Ability for users to choose whether or not to show their own online status
-Full XHTML Compliance
-Ability to display online status in user profile - on track for 1.0.4
-Ability to display online status in memberlist - on track for 1.0.4
-Ability to display online status in Whos Online
I have a beta build done right now, and I hope to have the stable version Friday.

hey mate, I really wanted to put this hack on, but I have 3.5.1
I noticed you said it doesn't run on this anymore... is there anything I could do [extra template edits], or even an older version I could do so that I would work on 3.5.1?
thanks mate
adb22791

If you look at the first post in the thread, you can use that version of 3.5.1. It doesn't have support for custom icons, however it has all the other features of the current hack.
I strongly suggest you upgrade, however, being as its so easy in 3.5.x.
Thanks,

in regards to upgrading, don't I lose all the custom template edits? coz that was the impression I had.
i've done so many edits I don't think it would be worth the hassle

No, there should be no reason you would loose template edits. Make sure to make backups of your templates, database, and forum files before you do the upgrade though. If you have any code edits however, those will have to be redone.

Noticed a couple of bugs in the template changes:
Any references to "$userinfo[username]" in the postbit and postbit_legacy replacement should read "$post[username]" instead.
Also, for the MEMBERINFO replacement, the original code isn't included in the event that IM Online Status is turned off (so you'd get nothing).
BTW, I'm going to click install for this, but I'm going to have to leave it turned off for the time being. No matter what I do (regardless of which server I use) the script will only work for AIM and for Yahoo. It won't work at all for MSN or ICQ. (I even installed the actual clients - I normally use Trillian - and made sure the settings were correct in there, to no avail.) The script probably needs to be updated to include changes in the protocol, and I'm going to leave it off until that's done.
I would appreciate it if you could keep us appraised in any updates in the situation, adb. :)

Added both to the bug fixes list for release in version 1.0.5.

This is an issue with the http://www.onlinestatus.org (http://www.onlinestatus.org/) script apparently. I will take a look at this and get back to you, however it is not a bug with the Plugin. Does seem like a bit of a pain though :S

I have downloaded 1.04 but right now use 1.02 at my VBB v3.5.4.
I dont see upgrade directions for v1.02 to 1.04.....which one should I follow:
To Upgrade from version 1.0.3: Make the template change below.
To Upgrade from version 1.0.1 or before: Overwrite the old product with product-imonlinestatus found in this zip file.

Hello,
To upgrade from 1.0.2, I would overwrite your current code changes in postbit or postbit_legacy with the ones in Install.txt. Also use the code for MEMBERINFO from Install.txt. And of course re-upload the product.
If you can however, I would suggest waiting until Friday to upgrade, which is when I am hoping to release version 1.0.5. v1.0.5 contains many needed bug fixes, and should run much smoother than 1.0.4 (however 1.0.4 runs fine right now). Also, the Upgrade.txt file from 1.0.5 will include upgrade instructions from 1.0.1, 1.0.2, 1.0.3, and 1.0.4.
Thanks,

I was not aware that anybody was still interested in this modification. If there is interest, I would be happy to pick development back up for a 3.6.x version.

LOL I installed it on 3.6.4 and I can not seem to get it to run properly I do not see any options you have listed as far as users being able to set their status.
Should I unistall this?

Yes, as this version does not run on vBulletin 3.6. The 3.6 version would have been released by now, except there's a pretty tricky bug I'm trying to work out. I'm hoping I can release it Friday or Saturday.
