Hey. Can anyone think of a good use for something like this? Let's say I'm in a thread and I want to tell somebody something in private without having to open a private topic. Say two people are having an argument. User1 is starting trouble with User2. Maybe I could do a:

[User2]Just leave it alone. Everybody knows he's wrong...[/User2]

And nobody sees this message except for User2. Any thoughts?

Thank you.. The user who actually sees the message would see that part in bold or something. It would have to stand out so that the user would know that only they're seeing it...

A better use would be:
[showto=FireFly]...[/showto]
That way, if someone's name is font, it would work for him as well.

Anyhow, I will create and release this hack tomorrow.

Hey. I just replied through email.. Do I need to take out everything in the subject except for what's in the brackets? Or, does it just take awhile to get here? I've wanted this "reply by email" for years... Any chance this makes it into vB3?

Anyways.. Wow! Thanks! That was quick! I like your idea, too.. Cool. I can't wait to install this one.. One of my own - soughta speak.

@Sal: No, your subject can have other text too, just the brackets and pw in it must be there

Hmm. I replied by email but it never posted...

Anyways.. I probably didn't explain myself well the first time around - with this hack - someone from one of my boards mentioned this to me. When I had the brackets surrounding someone's name, I actually meant for that to be a vB code type of thing. Not the actual user name. But a string+the name.. Just like FF responded with... I just didn't know which string to use...

I'm perfectly sure Firefly will not need my suggestions but I am experienced in this hack (I coded it a few monts ago but found not good enough and quit the project all together although it's finised) so I want to mention that if you dont create a special table/field in db for these messages, things get complicated real bad.

It's really not a good idea to make some lines hidden/visible for some users in the post because there are many gaps to close in this approach: ie they get exposed in searching, quoting, print thread etc. So I believe the best method is to create a special table or field for these thread-in line pms which was not my strategy in the begining..

Also it's a good idea to make them visible to all Admins/Mods, otherwise they will go unmoderated.. My 2 cents and good luck..
