[high]Staff Edit/Update[/high]
I have released an updated version of this hack (version 2.0.1), this version fixes some security issues with this hack. All version prior to this one allow users to insert html in their shouts, this can cause problems with them using html that breaks the site layout or malicious javascript. Download the new zip file (vBshout_fixed.zip) and upload the new vbshout.php file to patch/upgrade. If you want to manual instructions they are in the zip file, in the file bugfixes.txt
Second Staff update
I've uploaded a new version of this hack, dubbed '2.0.2'. This one should fix the html injection issues without breaking special characters. To upgrade, download the new zip file and upload the new vbshout.php file.
Please note that this only fixes the html injection issues. I do not use this hack on my own forum (although I've tested this on a client's board) so I will not be fixing the server load issues. I suggest you do not install this hack if you can't deal with the extra server load, as it's rather intensive.

I'm admin on a doberman forum and they want it to be called a Bark Box where can I change the title of the box? I've looked through the phrases but can't find the right one.
Well you can prune it when you think you need to. I do it frequently just as I happen to be passing by, nobody ever looks at the archive or cares that it gets pruned. An automated feature would be nice, yes.
I use it on a shared hosting account, although it's a premium quality hosting account. What did you want to know? It does put my bandwidth up a lot (block search engines from vbshout.php via robots.txt, helps a fair bit) but my server resource use is fine (Dual Xeons though, you might find budget hosts will get upset about things like Shoutboxes).
Oh I own my own box so I wasnt too worried about that part of it. Just maybe a slow response from vbshout itself. My members seem to use it as its a chatroom so I didnt know if there was a point where it would just slow down due to a larger database query.

errm.. is there a way to actually _prune_ the history? or do you mean the delete each shout method?
Man, this is a bummer.. I just looked thru 65 pages . I had to uninstall this. It worked GREAT when it was just the forum mods on the test site, but the day we went live, with only about 25 users, load got so bad that no one could get a page rerfresh...
Yes, I know, there are solutions in the 65 pages here for some of that stuff.. but I just had to uninstall it for now. I have other fish to fry from the upgrade.
@ mainframe - Thanks for the tip. I also saw a post in here somewhere to put it into it's own window... perhaps I will try that too.
But I really think there needs to be some caveats in the top post about possible issues peeps might have rather than make some one read this much to find out they have known issues. just my opine, and we all have one.
