I have released an updated version of this hack (version 2.0.1), this version fixes some security issues with this hack. All version prior to this one allow users to insert html in their shouts, this can cause problems with them using html that breaks the site layout or malicious javascript. Download the new zip file (vBshout_fixed.zip) and upload the new vbshout.php file to patch/upgrade. If you want to manual instructions they are in the zip file, in the file bugfixes.txt

Second Staff update

I've uploaded a new version of this hack, dubbed '2.0.2'. This one should fix the html injection issues without breaking special characters. To upgrade, download the new zip file and upload the new vbshout.php file.

Please note that this only fixes the html injection issues. I do not use this hack on my own forum (although I've tested this on a client's board) so I will not be fixing the server load issues. I suggest you do not install this hack if you can't deal with the extra server load, as it's rather intensive.

Well, been a while since I've been to vb.org and released anything, thought i'd break the trend and whip up something quick while I have a little spare time.

A shoutbox as you would assume, a very simple one to start off with, but does include AJAX Technology, which pushes the shoutbox 1 step closer to live, messages from other people will appear with no refreshing, and so will yours that you post

A preview is below, i'd estimate a 50 second installation max

I went threw all 90+ pages the other day and found a code change so people couldnt post pictures in the shoutbox, but I lost it, anyone know where I can find it? it took hours to go threw all those pages. thanks.

Currently, 'shout' is set to something other than TYPE_NOHTML. I don't remember what, exactly, cuz its been awhile since I changed it :ermm:

Found it! incase anyone needs it. and what I replaced was Type_STR

When a user tries to edit a message, the message is not edited. Only the user can see the change he made. Any ideas?

On the other screen (from my forum) you can see, that the edit options are not shown. Why not ? Can somebody help me ?

i'm about to upload this just a question,i have a small forum,can i set prune to say every 2 hours???? so in here set like this "(TIMENOW - (60 * 60 * 2)" is this the correct way please

No, that will only delete all shouts that are older than 2 hours.

If you want to let the prunecron run every two hours, you'll have to edit the properties of the cron.

I've had this installed for quite some time now. My host has had some load
problems, but I'm not sure if it's related to this.
I've read though all 93 pages again, and see some (security/and other) fixes
which I'm going to code in today.

I have noticed some weird files. They look like cache files or something.
I think they are related to the vbshout, but not sure.
Is anybody else getting this?: (see attached)

A: Edit the title above the shoutbox window that says "Shoutbox" to something else

B: Make the timestamp on the left smaller in size
