tbh if vbulletin.org does`nt want people to come on here and gripe anout who ripped who off they should remove the service request section from the board. Is a lot of people who get ripped off and most of them never even bother to post on here and just let it go down to experience.
My view is - if they got the job off here and it is proven they have ripped some one off for their money then 1 - account banned - simple as NO ifs,No Buts Also vb.org should implement a simple hack like itrader so people can really see who is good as their word and who is bad - kk it wont stop people ripping others off but its a lot better than the system they have in place at the moment. At the moment it seems if someone replies to your service request on vb.org then u on your own if they rip u off because you will not get any help from this board and should u dare to complain the mods will either edit your thread or remove your post altogether. Question for vb.org staff : What is your stance if someone rips someone off - and they are a member of this board and they replied to service request in PM??? acerulezz started this thread on the 09. Oct 2006, 04:18 and its still going now with no action taken whatsoever. If you are unwilling to help members then seriously the section should be removed and no one allowed to advertise coding work in sigs etc. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....0&postcount=16 Look at above post - Extremetim is still advertising in his sig and why should`nt he ? because there simply aint no comeback if u rip someone off.A bit of a free for all. Final note - sorry to sound to harsh - there is some good coders on here and some even go out of there way to help and dont charge the earth - but its the odd few who are killing it for the legit ones so we need a system in place to weed these out and seeing as nothing has happened to extremetim in the 8 weeks since he was complained about - what hope is there for others who have been ripped off ? |

It *could* be argued that vbulletin.org and JelSoft (as owner) are complicit in the fraud if they knows that a member is ripping off other members and fail to take any action what-so-ever.
I'm just sayin'..... |

Banning them isn't really fair, because they are entitled view the site if they have a license. In such obvious events of people working with poor ethics, you should just remove their ability to view/send private messages, and their ability to view the service requests forum.
BTW MPDev, apparently not (according to their disclaimer), https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=73198 |

Disclaimers don't protect you from liability when you turn a blind eye towards criminal activity or the result of such transactions when they are promoted from their site.

Utter rubbish, All the license entitles you to is to run the software on your own server and get support via the vbulletin.com site (and that does not include the forums there either) So no the fact he has a license does not mean he is entitled to be able to use this site any more than I am entitled to live at no10 downing street. |

There are plenty of licensed users on this site that actively "steal" from here and post on warez sites. I have personally made staff aware of the ones I know about on more than one occasion, and while the response from the staff is usually polite, there is no action taken. What makes any of you think they are going to take action on one member who has allegedly stolen from another member in a transaction that took place away from this site? How do you think sites like Sitepoint, WHT and others handles deals that go south from their sites? They handle it just like the org does here. There is such a thing as buyer beware and I doubt seriously trying to hold the org legally liable would hold up in any court. I agree that they should install iTrader or some rating system here to help protect their reputation. I also think they could ban users from here which doesn't seem to happen very often if at all. I think the smartest thing the org could do is do away with the service request forum altogether.

There is stealing code which to be honest has no intrinsic value and then there is stealing money. Stealing money is a criminal offence i would hazzard a guess that the same could not be said about stealing a hack.

Yeah I understand it's not practical for them to investigate these matters and take any action. Threads like these are the only defense aside from proper research before hiring. Things like down payments vary between freelancers, but if you can get away with not paying then there is less risk. Only pay once you see something done.

Like it or not, as part of the transaction between those offering service and those soliciting services, this site does has obligations if it wants to avoid potential liability. Companies like eBay routinely remove fraudulent sellers and buyers from their site - for good reason. On this site JelSoft offers a services forum for people to solicit business; as part of the transaction, there is the element of liability and responsibility on their part. As forum owners I would think you would be a little better versed in your potential liability for the services you provide. |
