Administrative and Maintenance Tools - EZ Bounced Email Management for Admins

DESCRIPTION:
This mod will insert a special EZbounce link into the header of all emails sent from your forums. In the event any email bounces back to you, you simply click the EZbounce link and the Ezbounce script launches, which will modify the bouncing members settings to prevent further bouncing emails. It will also send that member a PM asking them to update their email address.

This modification is known to work with versions as high as 3.8.x


FEATURES:

• Will not modify settings for Admins, Supermods, or Moderators if their email bounces
• (if turned on) Bouncing member is moved to whatever usergroup you set in AdminCP EZbounce Settings
• Updates bouncing member's "Receive Email from Administrators" setting to NO
• Updates bouncing member's "Receive Email Notification of New Private Messages" setting to NO
• Updates bouncing member's "Receive Email from Other Members" setting to NO
• Remove email notification for all of bouncing member's subscribed THREADS
• Remove email notification for all of bouncing member's subscribed FORUMS
• Turns on Popup Notification of new Private Messages for bouncing member
• PM is sent to Member notifying them of bounced email & asking them to update email address
• (if turned on) When member updates & confirms their new email, they are returned to original usergroup.

Now, the next time you send a newsletter from your AdminCP, (so long as you only send emails to members whom have "Receive Email From Administrators" set to "Yes") you will no longer receive a bounced email from this member (because they are no longer being sent).

And also, if you created a new usergroup such as "Bounced Members" and set this usergroupid in this hack's settings, now the members that have bounced can be pruned, sent reminder emails, whateveryou want to do with them!


WHAT IF A MEMBER DECIDED TO CLICK ON THE LINK IN THE EMAIL HEADER?
Most email clients don't show the email's headers by default, however in the event a member is slick enough to view their header and they click on this mysterious link, they will simply receive a no permission message since they're unallowed to log in to the AdminCP.

HOW TO VIEW FULL EMAIL HEADERS:
You might need to configure your email client to view full email headers in order to see the EzBounce link. There's detailed instructions on how to do this for the most popular email clients here.

I would guess you want to change this part in the product_anti_managed_bounced_email.xml file, around lines 43-44:

$bounceurl		= $vbulletin->options['ezb_admincpurl'] . "/ezbounce.php?u=" . $buser['userid'];
$bouncestring	= "<a href=\"$bounceurl\" target=\"_blank\">$bounceurl</a>";

Change to:

$bounceurl		= $vbulletin->options['ezb_admincpurl'] . "/ezbounce.php?u=" . $buser['userid'];
$bouncestring	= "<a href=\"$bounceurl\">$bounceurl</a>";

I'm not sure why the target="_blank" part is required or helpful in any case but it wraps in Outlook express and is ignored anyway so it works for me as is...

2. Go to your AdminCP>vbulletinoptions>EZ Bounce management for admins and modify the admincp url so it matches your path to admincp.

when I click the EZ Bounce url it takes me to 404 page

the path to admincp is definitly corect however it is not the default Vb path

my path is some thing like this

Almqdad, did you upload the ezbounce.php file to your admincp directory?

Nathan, you could get the single link bouncecode back in your emails by altering the code as follows, but I would suggest changing it within the plugin for mail_send instead of doing it in the xml file (it's always safer to avoid editing xml plugins manually).

Try changing following:

Maybe you get a method how to manage high Member Forums.

When having 10k Users, it is hard to click the bounced emails everytime sending an email to them.

It is indeed. My solution was to send them out in relatively small batches (I used 50 at a time) and I altered the cron jobs initially to send them out at long intervals (I think it was a couple of hours) to limit how many I'd need to do at one time.

The upside is that with a lot of members, many of the older ones will be affected and you'll only have to do it once.

After you get through the initial "pruning" (use the send to an inactive usergroup feature), you can reset the options to anything you like and the procedure becomes much more manageable.

Thanks for the kind words bobbybig, it's really not my intention to steer this in the direction of pipping smtp accounts for bounced emails or reading email log files, etc... tamarian's already doing a great job on his vBouncer hack. This is simply meant as an easy way to deal with a bouncing member once, and then either prune them, or leave them as an inactive member whom no longer receives emails from the forum (depending on how your settings are configured).

true, the first run is a bear, but once it's done, it's relatively easy sailing on a day-to-day basis, even for forums exceeding 10,000 members.

contains the admin user Id and not the member Id

please check it up
