Private Message Quote Formatting Details »» | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
What is it?
---------------------------- This mod arranges quotes in a PM to be in a "conversational" order instead of being nested. This solves the problem of displaying deeply-nested quotes. This mod also has an option to add a date/time stamp to quoted PMs. Note: I'm marking this "beta" because it hasn't been tested very much. If you try this, please let me know if you have any problems or would like it to work differently. Also, I'm not much of an html/css person - this mod mostly provides variables which can be checked in the template, and a bare-bones css file. If anyone comes up with css for a better looking format and wants to share it, please do (and maybe I'll put it in a later version). (vb3 version here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=292996) Installation: ---------------------------- Just import the product XML file from the Product Manager. This doesn't change stored PMs in any way (unless you enable the date/time stamp - see below), so you can uninstall or disable the product at any time to go back to the original PM template. If you'd like to customize the format, you can edit the kh99_pm_quote, kh99_pm_quote_bit, and/or the kh99_pm_quote.css templates. If you want to add date/time tags to PM quotes, go to the adminCP options under "Private Messaging Options" and set "Add Date and Time to Quotes" to yes. Note that if you later uninstall this mod, any messages quoted while this option was on will still contain a date/time tag, but it will display after the name in a default format and timezone. If this is a concern, it's probably better that you don't enable this option. Also note that the date/time option only adds the timestamp to newly quoted messages - it will not add one to quotes in existing messages. History: ---------------------------- 0.91 (Dec 22, 2012)

Just installed and having some issues.
1) It is not doing anything for the formatting of the PMs 2) It is not actually showing as "installed" in my list of Plugins/Products although it does go through the sequence of 'installing' I am on 4.2.2 Is it possible that it isn't actually installing? How can I check to see if it installed and if so (since it might not be working) make sure it is properly uninstalled? Thanks, D. |

Hmm...if you have the templates but it's not showing up as an installed product, then maybe an error happened during installation. I'll take a look when I get a chance, and see if I can make a guess at what it might be.

OK, there's no install code in that mod, so I don't know why it doesn't install. Are you positive that it isn't showing up? It should show up in the Installed Products as "Private Message Quote Formatting" (I didn't put [kh99] in the title of that one).
Anyway, if you want to make sure things are cleaned up, go to the Plugin Manager and look for a section labeled "Product : Private Message Quote Formatting". If it's there you can delete those plugins. Also in Search in Templates, Search for kh99_pm, and click "Search in Titles Only". This product installs two template, called kh99_pm_quote.css and kh99_pm_quote. Same in Search in Phrases, search for kh99_pm and "Phrase Variable Name Only". That should be it. FWIW I just tried installing it on vb4.2.2pl1 and it seems to install OK. |

It installed properly now, but doesn't seem to be functioning. I wonder if it could be the "styles" that I am using and there being something over riding your templates. Strange. I am sure like most things, it's unique to my site and not a reflection on your work. D. |

OK, just saw your latest message (which I guess you posted while I was typing). Glad you got it installed, but I don't know why you don't see the effect. I'm assuming you looked at the screen grabs to see what it does - you'll only see the formatting in a message that has one or more quotes in it.

Yeah, that could be. I'll have to look at the code again and think about that.

I did some back and forth PMing between my admin account and a user account I have setup for testing.
I see no change in how the PMs look from before to now. D. |
