Foreword:

This it to be the first publicly released Application (Ever) on vbulletin.org and as such is currently in Beta phase and I would like as many people to help test and give ideas for new features.

This application does not incorporate any Vbulletin Code and thus does not require any modification to existing forum software, it should work with 99.9% of Vbulletin Forums.

If you wish to tell your members about this application please do, if you can offer a mirror for this file for the casual user to better enjoy using your vbulletin forum; please send me a private message or email at Trigunflame@charter.net so this can offload some of the transfer from Vbulletin.org

On a further note, the creation of this application was to promote the growth of Vbulletin and expand its current userbase.

PS. Be On the lookout for a new Application (Vbulletin Control Center); this will allow administration of multiple forums within a single application providing speed, reliability and cross platform interoperability.

Summary:

The primary goal of this particular application is to provide a 'live' notification system for the user who would like updates on his/her desktop when they receive new PM's as well as New Posts to threads they are subscribed to at the Forums they wish.

This application being very small in size will quietly sit in your taskbar and notify you when your selected forums have new private messages waiting for you

As for .NET sorry; I dont code in any Microsoft derived languages or libraries for a reason.

ps. With exception of the Greta Open Source Library created by one of Microsofts Devs.
but it's funny, you code for Microsoft systems. You should be doing Java.

In short; currently yes you will be shown as logged in as long as its checking your private messages.
Ouch, so a user will be shown as logged in and new message pointers will not be correct as long as the user is running the program.

Sure wish Jelsoft would offer a hook for programs like these to check for new PM's and such without having to use a session variable that resets the new message pointers.(Hint, Hint to any Jelsoft dev reading this)

That is where you are wrong; new messages are handled by seperate cookies and this should not interefere with that system.

How to find your BBPASSWORD & USERID

Mozilla Firefox Users

Open Firefox and click on the tools menu at the top, then select options. A options menu should pop up with some tabs. The tabs should show

General - Privacy - Content - Tabs - Downloads - Advanced.

Click on the tab that says Privacy. On the bottom left you will see a button that says View Cookies go ahead and click on that button.

Search for cookies...
Now you will see a search box. Lets say you would like to add this for the vBulletin.org forums. You would simply type in vBulletin.org and press enter.

Your search results should show the following information: (You might have to scroll down the search results some)

Site and Cookie Name. Look for vBulletin.org as the site and bbpassword as the cookie name. Once you find that, click on it. Some information will be shown just under it.
  • Name: bbpassword
  • Content: (32 alphanumeric characters)
  • Domain: .vbulletin.org
  • Path: /
  • ...ect
All you want is the content value. Those 32 alphanumeric characters should be pasted into the XML file as the bbpassword.
Internet Explorer Users

Open your favorite text-editing program. Then open c:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Cookies\

At this point you will need to search that directory for a file that will be named something like this: Assuming you are using this for vBulletin.org. *username*@vbulletin[1].txt.

Once you find that file, open it up in the text editor and search for bbpassword. Just under that or next to it you will see 32 alphanumeric characters. Those 32 alphanumeric characters should be pasted into the XML file as the bbpassword.

*username* = The name you use to log into your computer. Example: Owner, home, ect..
Whats My Userid?
To get your userid, just view your profile... the url will look like member.php?u=123. Where 123 is will be your userid.

vbnotify.config.xml File
So now your XML file should look like so...

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<vbnotify>

        <dialogs>
                <dialog name="pm" enabled="true" interval="5" shown="3"></dialog>
        </dialogs>

        <forums>
                <forum name="vBulletin.org" url="https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/" bbuserid="123" bbpassword="55jdmxgs5s224s2a32a48c2s2sx8x3ss"></forum>
        </forums>

</vbnotify>
The bbpassword shown there was random to show you what it should look like. Hope this helps answer questions before they are needed to be posted.
