DownloadsII

DownloadsII is a download database that integrates into vBulletin. It allows you to upload files, add images to them, create categories, link to external files - and more. It is very flexible and has many options.

It's also coded 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid, just like vBulletin itself.

Instructions & Support

Requires vBulletin 4.0.4 or higher. Not fully compatible with lower vB 4 versions.
It works fine with both the new editor in vB 4.1.4 or higher and the old one in previous vB versions.

Read the instructions in the next two posts before installing/upgrading this mod!

You can find an installation/upgrade manual in the zip package (Readme.txt).

I try to answer most questions asked in this thread. Please don't send any pm's if I don't ask for them. Don't forget to click the install link, so you will receive important update notifications.

Screenshots & Live demo

At the bottom of this post, you can find some screenshots of the front-end and back-end (AdminCP part) of the DownloadsII software.

You can find a live demo on my own site: Minatica.be Downloads (Dutch).
Though keep in mind that we are running a restyled and modified version of it.

Changelog (version 6.0.9)

Jelle
  • Added support for vB 4.1.8 bit processing with 'each' construct (backwards compatible)
  • Fixed comma listing for vB 4.1.8 (using "old" method)
Older changelogs are included in the zip package.

Help!!! I can't upload large files??

This is probably the most asked question. It's mostly caused by some default PHP settings: check "PHP Max Post Size" and "PHP Maximum Upload Size" at your AdminCP home.

Then have a look at this post for the solution to up these values.
Also have a look at this post at vB.com (but ignore the MySQL part as DownloadsII is only using the file system).

Thank you

Installed - Voted Excellent and nominated MOTM

One question however... Is there any way to restrict the download button in the navbar to certain usergroups?

EDIT: I figured it out... in the plugin code that adds the Downloads navbar button, I wrapped the code in an if statement using the is_member_of function:

PHP Code:

if (is_member_of($vbulletin->userinfo675))
{

// originial plugin contents goes here

In addition to this it would be nice to have the ability to set permissions to categories for each usergroup similar to how the forum permissions are done.

Great mod! Any chance of a simpler file management in later editions? Editing file by file takes time. Also, adding tags and a tagcloud would be great. Thanks a lot for this invaluable mod!

I am new to VB, I have done step 1 & 2 But i don't know where to change permissions. do i go to the downloads directory that i uploaded to the forums directory? I look at the code in the downloads but there is more then one place that has permissions

Can you give me the path? or a Copy & Past of the code where i do this.

Is this what I edit? // ################################################## #####################
// ######################## START MAIN SCRIPT ############################
// ################################################## #####################

if (!$vbulletin->options['dl2active'])
{
if (($permissions['downloads2permissions'] & $vbulletin->bf_ugp['downloads2permissions']['canviewdisabled']))
{

Thanks

That query issue is on my list. I'm keeping a list of all reported bugs and feature requests. So I'm not ignoring these.
Btw, I tried to fix it for this release, but I needed to put an extra option (selecting what image is used as the category thumb) in it then for making a good join query possible. More query work is on the high priority todo list, like getting the category tree in 1 query (and caching it in the datastore).
This release is already faster than v5, mostly because it's using less includes.

And yes, I'm making a big release together with each big vBulletin release. Is that a crime? It seems logical to me.
Next to that, I didn't just "add some features" and released it. Version 6 is a full recode: all code was rewritten. There's a totally new AdminCP, advanced search, ...

It's attached now. I was still creating all post content etc.
Don't listen to him mate, some people just expect the world for free.

Maybe you should consider creating a paid version, possibly compatible with Torrents etc?

I would pay if we get more advanced functionality. Flash Uploader, A3 support, tagging, etc.

i don't think it's a responsibility of the downloader software really.. I think you should be good to go if you create an acceptable file type and just include the content type as being torrent. That should work. Once you click on the link it should kick off whatever torrent client you are using.
