Against vBulletin piracy logo
1.30 Works with vBulletin 3.5 and 3.6
>Module purpose
This module adds a logo against vBulletin piracy at the center of your footer
The logo changes with the language. You have to configure it (very easy).
>Install
1)Upload the two pictures in the "images/misc" directory of all your styles
2)Import xml file with the vB product manager
3)Go to "vbulletin options->Against Piracy Logo" and config the mod
>Warning
The code can't be redistributed elsewhere than vBulletin-fr.org, vBulletin.org and vBulletin.com
The code can't be changed without asking me
The picture must have an hypertext link to vbulletin-fr.org for french speaking users or vbulletin.org (or vbulletin.com) for other users.
I will explain you later the reason why i've made this module.

This mod would be alot more functional if it did something similar to verisign. For example, say you go to videogamedepot.com (not my site, I am just using it as an example), there's a verisign logo on the bottom left. You click the button and get a pop up with security information about that site. For example:
Security remains the primary concern of on-line consumers. The VeriSign Secure Site Program allows you to learn more about web sites you visit before you submit any confidential information. Please verify that the information below is consistent with the site you are visiting.
Name WWW.VIDEOGAMEDEPOT.COM
Status Expired
Validity Period 07-APR-03 - 09-APR-05
Server ID
Information Country = US
State = Iowa
Locality = Cedar Rapids
Organization = Cart-Mart Inc.
Organizational Unit = VGD Web SalesTerms of use at www.verisign.com/rpa (c)00
Organizational Unit = Terms of use at www.verisign.com/rpa (c)01
Common Name = www.videogamedepot.com
If the information is correct, you may submit sensitive data (e.g., credit card numbers) to this site with the assurance that:
* This site has a VeriSign Secure Server ID.
* VeriSign has verified the organizational name and that CART-MART INC. has the proof of right to use it.
* This site legitimately runs under the auspices of CART-MART INC..
* All information sent to this site, if in an SSL session, is encrypted, protecting against disclosure to third parties.
So we have learned that videogamedepot.com has had its verisign status expire in April of 2005.
If this mod somehow linked back to vbulletin.com and queried tho server to find out if the forum id and url matched up against the record at vbulletin a user could very quickly figure out if the board was legit or not.
It would be nice if vbulletin makes a report form in order to report suspicious forums :P it would be more uselful than the logo.
They do - it's here:
Code:
http://www.vbulletin.com/piracy.php
As said previously, it may not be such a good idea to link this modification to that page since it could lead to misunderstandings - eg: if someone entered YOUR url by mistake . . . or even maliciously. That's an entirely subjective issue though.
What would be really neat would be for vBulletin to provide a link to some kind of "verified licensed" image that would only be available to genuine license holders. That would put a bigger hole in the concept of an unlicensed board displaying a "bluff" logo.
In the meantime, this is quite a neat addition . . gonna install and see how it looks. :up:
