Display Unread Posts and New Reputation Comments
Developer Last Online: Nov 2023
This modification is no longer available or supported. Note: The unread posts portion of this hack only works if you use the database thread marking system, also, this attaches itself to certain phrases in the "welcome" box and will not work if they are not present (or are modified by other code). FYI, the Forum Marking Choices are located in vBulletin Options ; vBulletin Options > General Settings > Thread/Forum Read Marking Type This displays the actual number of posts that are still considered unread by you (and will show up in a 'getnew' search). It also displays the number of new reputation comments since you last checked your usercp. There is the option to count the unread posts since your last visit, or all posts considered unread. This setting reflects the divider in the 'getnew' search display. There is also the option to disable the unread posts display or the new reputation comments display. There is also the option to display the New Reputation Comments counter as a Welcome Box Notification. All settings are located in vBulletin Options > Display Unread Posts and Reputation. Version 3.7.004 adds the following ; A forum exclusion list - requested a number of times, an option is provided to exclude forums from the unread count & display. A time limit on unread posts count - if a member has not visited for more than x days then a simple unread posts link will be displayed, not an actual count, this stops potential large sql queries if you have a busy forum. The option can be disabled. To install this hack unzip the xml file and import it using the ACP Product Manager. History: v3.7.001 : First Release for vb 3.7. v3.7.002 : Added Notification Display Option for Reputation Comments. v3.7.003 : Internal version, not released. v3.7.004 : Added time limit and forum exclusion list. v3.7.005 : Fixed path bug in welcome box notification. v3.7.006 : Slight change to accomodate customised navbars still using vb 3.6 code. v3.7.007 : Fix potential database error if lastrepcheck is blank, rare, but it can happen it seems. Hi again dear Paul,
I am a little confused please help me my friend, I have a problem with my hosting because my forum is using a lot of memory and process in the server, so I am optimizating it to the maximum. I don?t want to enable the inactivity option in the "Thread/Forum Read Marking Type" option, because for me and my users don?t like how this option works and also with this option I can?t use your mod. So well I want to use an option that every 5 days all the unread posts of my forum of all my users mark it as read in conjuntion with your mod, to help to the server to don?t have problems because my forum. My forum is a little big, is this one: www.all-reefs.com So please tell me which of the 2 options in the ACP in General Settings I have to choose: this "Database (no automatic forum marking)" or this one "Database (automatic forum marking)", I think the last one. And in this option is correct to put 5 days ? "Database Read Marking Limit" Finally in your CP mod, which options I have to choose?....... in "Display Unread Posts Option", this "Use last visit date" or "Count all posts marked as unread" ??? And how many days I have to put here? "Maximum Cutoff Limit", also 5 or less ?? Thank you so much for all your great help in this dear Paul, because your mod is one of the greatest mod that I have installed in my forum. I will be waiting your answer!! Cheers, Mario |

Limit the member to X uses of the unread posts feature, like they can only click it so many times per day. Members can grow lazy with this feature.

thank you dear Paul,
Ok only confirm me if I have to choose auto forum marking, then put 7 days in the DB Read Marking Limit ?? and finally to choose (enable) the "Use last visit date" option in your Mod Control Panel ?? is that all right ??? And how many days I have to put in the "Maximum Cutoff Limit" option ?? also 7 ?? or less ? Thank you again my friend. Mario |

Awesome!!
With that options enabled: "auto forum marking" and "Use last visit date" and put in both 7 days. All the unread posts of all my users will be automatically mark as read after 7 days ?, no matter if the users enter daily to the forum ? |
