How to gain members and get them to post?

i'm somewhat in the same boat. i get tons of hits per day and very few sign up. those that do sign up, don't seem to post. some will come back and still not post, others will never come back. it's an adult content site and i'm in a catch 22 here:

people won't join and stick around if there's not enough content. i won't get content unless people stick around and post. what's an admin to do?

i tried the route of locking things down and that made it worse so i opened it all up to regular registered members and even threw some content the way of the guest in hopes of enticing them and building up good content. i figured once i had enough worth looking at, then i could lock it down again a bit and eventually put in a payment system.

i guess we'll see how it all plays out

I'm in the same boat... New site, want new members fast. I like the idea of advertising on the front page about the features my site offers over others.

wow.........You are kickin the heck out of my mustang site with members. I only have about 700, give or take....Your's show's over 3,000 member's.

I would think your membership count is awesome, and that one of the biggest thing's i have noticed for the automotive sites is weather......summertime is hard because people are working on their car's, trying to spend the rest of that time with their families......therefore, you may see them pop onto your site, and they may not post, but they were there.......

You just watch, your site will be flying again as it get's colder out and people can't just go out and race or work on their rides......

Mmmmm, when you accually need posts to boost your board. I would disagree slightly there and say it always a good idea to have at least one board were Guests have permission to post. Like a general discussion board etc. As even there posts can help the site at first.
