The problems that you see are often unique conflicts with unique situations on people's forums. A mentioned, work arounds for these problems are often already posted. But the product has currently worked by and large for the last five years.
In other words, with this being the most installed mod on vb.org, your bound to run into a number of users who have a problem that can't be fixed. That doesn't mean the product itself isn't stable, or that anything is wrong with it. |

...yes but as a Premium Modifications seems abandoned.

And what does that mean, exactly? I think you're reading too much into the "Premium" part. All that means is it's got it's own subsection. It's still only one developer, doing it for free and in his spare time.None of that has changed because the word Premium was slapped on the title. Did you pay anything to install the Arcade? All the premium part means is it has more installs, and therefore a bigger support crowd than most modifications. There shouldn't be any greater an expectation because it's in a section with a special name, which you notice, is the only one in that section anymore.

I suggest the developer from now on charges money for upgrades, that way we can hopefully get better and faster upgrades. The last version he released smells like alpha version to me, not even beta! It looks like something a three-year old have chugged together, and now I'm talking about the visual end.

How do you figure a 2.5 version as Alpha? And why would anyone suddenly want to start paying for a mod that was free? Why do people think that if you start charging for something, that suddenly frees up your days and nights to start working full time on something that isn't even going to come close to paying the bills? I just don't get the complaints against something that is being offered free of charge with no expectation or inconvenience on your end.

Not 2.5 but 2.7. It's pure alpha when it comes to the visual end in vB 4.0.x, and I'm a professional designer who knows something about those things. I've mentioned this on several occations, but still no response from the author.
Regarding paying for the product. Since this mod have a very large userbase, I would regard the mod so important that if he can't follow up with the users' demand, then let him turn it to someone else. It really is, in many ways, a too important mod to not spend much more time on it, helping users, squashing bugs and generally refining it. --------------- Added [DATE]1265916256[/DATE] at [TIME]1265916256[/TIME] --------------- When that is said, I donated $100 to MrZeropage today with hopes of work and refinement on the visual end of this product in the vBulletin 4 series. |

I think you're seriously mistaken if you think there's enough user support for this mod that suddenly charging for it would result in him being able to quit his full time job (or somehow go part time on it) and work on this exclusively. You know darn well he'd loose more than half his base if a free modification suddenly became a pay modification. If there was someone who had the time and knowledge to work out all the errors people were running into, he'd be offering that support already. It's the point of this community to help each other out. If we had the time, we'd already be doing it, without him having to turn it over.

I have never mentioned anything about him quitting his daytime job, where did you get that from? Don't make up your own fantasy story just to have some arguments.
The point of my posts about this is to get him to focus on the things that are definite showstoppers for newcomers. If I was to install this mod for the first time today on vB4, I would easily have chosen another, since this one looks plain ugly as it is now. My donation was simply a motivator to urge him to make an extra effort to fix these things. It's as simple as some CSS adjustments, and for the savvy coder that Marcel is I bet he can do it in no time. I urge everyone who uses this mod to send him some money as a way of telling him how much we love this mod. |
