It depends on a lot of things what version people are using. Seriously, some sites I have seen using vBulletin Lite, or vBulletin 2 series, or 3 series, or 3.5 series or an older 3.6 series forum, normally because of the sheer amount of modifications installed making it difficult to upgrade.
As for the update, there's generally no reason not to, as I upgraded without even disabling the modifications, and nothing went wrong while upgrading or has gone wrong so far as a result of it. And this was not just minor stuff, but full Interactive Profiles + Shoutbox + Arcade + Shop + Points System + Bank + a lot of other stuff which cannot be named. |

I have about 30+ Mods Installed and I did the upgrade to vB 3.6.8 the other day. Went super smoothly and all still working at 100% ... I say upgrade ... It only took me bout 20 Minutes to do it and that included manually changing the Templates that needed "Revert" as they are Customized ...
vB.com gives you a list of the Files that have changed since the previous version of vB that was released. So in order to upgrade all you really have to do is overwrite those files via FTP, then run the install/upgrade.php and your done. No need to replace ALL the files on your Server with the ones from the Zip File, just replace those that have changed since the last version of vB (these are stated in the corresponding thread over at vB.com) ... The way I see it, if it hasn't changed, why would you overwrite it with a new one? Just takes more time and might make you loose some Modifications when replacing them. I only had to edit the member.php file from vB 3.6.8 as I had to add the iTrader edits, besides that, all the other files did not need editing. |

Oh, and by the way (I know, not relevant but useful for those with customised boards), if you ever have trouble with images being overwritten, simply extract the images that were not in the prior release, then delete the rest of the image folder.

I wish that I didn't Upgrade
![]() 1- Some usergroups when they send PMs, it get delivered TWICE to the recpients, plus it's saved TWICE in the Outbox. 2- The quick reply box get expanded and the text in it truncated in the view (only the right side of it). 3- Advanced reply box became verrrry small in width. ![]() |

I find if I don't upgrade I get hit by more spammers and hacked into. Does this happen to anyone else?
