I find myself, incredibly, in disagreement with you in this instance, noppid. I'm shocked at how many threads here disintegrate into one-liners and off-topic comebacks, usually as a result of staff postings (the very group who is supposed to moderate).
I read this thread expecting to find some worthwhile suggestions about mentoring, which is of interest to me because, with the main and most worthwhile coding discussion locked and barred, and not likely to change, a "mentoring" program would give this site some other valid reason to exist. Instead, we get more Boofoonery. |

I just think the post was a Morale killer. We're trying to turn Morale around here, not slide backwards.

I would rather see serious, productive posts focused on the business at hand, than thread after thread of pointless nonsense. If I want lame jokes, I'll eat a Popsicle.
I have nothing against light-hearted, morale-boosting threads. I think it's the cart-before-the-horse, though, to focus on levity at the expense of productivity. Get the cart back on the track, and I think you'll find that morale will improve as a natural by-product. To that end: while the mentoring idea has merit, I think the purpose could be served just as well, if not better, by opening up the Coders Discussion forum. Why have a series of one-to-one relationships? This is supposed to be a community, which implies communal learning. I think any mentoring program would quickly descend into "teach me to be like you". Where would you start? How much better it would be to learn by seeing on-going discussions, on a variety of design and coding topics, to watch how a plugin author goes about his/her business. In short, the very idea of a mentor system tells us that some want this site to be more than a hack download/install/support site. They want it to be a place to learn about vBulletin customization, and the best way to do that is to hold the conversations in the open, where all can benefit. |

Boofo - please refrain from telling me what I need to do. You're not my therapist, and have no idea if I'm tense or relaxed. On the other hand, I'd welcome any comments you have about the mentoring idea, which is the topic of this thread.
Lottis - Be as silly and light-hearted as you like; I believe the site has a "lounge area" just for that purpose... this thread's subject is "Suggestion: Mentors". If you have thoughts on that matter, please share them, rather than light-heartedly boosting your post count. |

@ tgreer - Well maybe you should grow up then and stop then name calling. Is that possible? I have not attacked you in any way ever, I would appreciate the same respect in return.
