My first forum was a UBB (now known as ubb.classic). I've also used phpbb, openbb, mybb, IPB and a ton of other scripts over the years.

phpBB, IPB, and vBulletin for me...I still run a phpbb board since it's so small it's not worth a vbulletin license for...

I've run phpBB a handful of times and really am not fond of it. IPB on a small board for friends. I also ran XMB way back when it was a very new project written by a handful of coders.

phpbb only because it's so simple and fantasico does all the work...but only for small sites. My biggest forum used SMF which was easy to work with, especially how it handled mods/ "packages" but support for it was lacking, the community wasn't helpful.

EZ-Board>YABB>PNForum>PHPBB>pnPHPBB>VB 3.5.4

Man, I have been using pnphpbb for the past 3 years (it is a port of phpbb to postnuke), it is a great software but after finally breaking down and purchasing VB, I am kicking myself for wasting my time with all those others. I really wish I could go back and do it over again.

The built in subscription module is what I have been looking for for quite some time. None of the other forums had anything like this built in, along with the custom rank images, it just make for a great combination and the Ebux/Ucash system keeps your users involved and wanting to post and help out.

Plus all the easy php scripts to run if something messes up. The Mod support is incredible.

This just blows everything out of the water.

Great post idea!

ubb (pre .classic, ancient... still have it laying around somewhere) --> vB...

Goofed around with phpBB for a spell on some side projects, always seem to migrate back to vB though.

I know there are a ton of different kinds of forums but these are the three I've used and I probably won't use anymore since third time's a charm and I found the one I really love.

Edited to add. I'm a total idiot. The lounge isn't for vB talk. Hey Mods, you can move this if you need/want to. :alien:
Same here. I went Invision for my first major board, then they went paid and I went to phpBB for a friends board which was a quickie type thing. And now finally I am on vB and I love it. ^_^

I've tested most of the noteworthy ones to varying degrees, including other paid ones by agreeing to co-admin boards that were running them. The only other software I've ever used in a production environment before vB was IPB 1.3.1 Final and SMF.

I've tried just about every forum software out there to try it to see what I thought. And vBulletin is the best
