A port of my 3.0.x code modification, here.

This plugin provides your users with an option whether or not to save a copy of sent private messages by default.


If you want Sent PMs to remain saved by default, run this query.

Many thanks to KirbyDE for his words of wisdom. No further updates are planned unless Jelsoft change any of the hooks that this modification uses..

Can't seem to get this working .. plugin installed fine, template modification OK, the option appears under User Options but it doesn't seem to make any difference if it is ticked or not, PM's still default to do not save. Any ideas?

Check your user table and make sure there is a field called savecopy.

Make sure the template edit has been done for all styles that you are running.?

I love this hack but the default is set to "do not save private messages". I want the default to remain "save" and just give users the option of not saving.

How can I do this?

Run this query:
[sql]ALTER TABLE p_user CHANGE savecopy savecopy TINYINT (1) UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT '1'[/sql]Replace [high]p[/high] with your table prefix, if you're not using one completely remove [high]p_[/high].

Should work (and yes, savecopy should be there twice)..
