Yes I meant impair. What bad things could come from planning for the future? Why would somoene live in the past when they have already lived it. Theres is not much we can do about the present as it is what it is now but we can do something about the future.

the bad things for always thinking of the future is: to worry too much, or some may get hallucination that they already reach it

you're right, but it is always the present.

no past.

I was also a person who didn't know today, I was always thinking of the tomorrow's lessons and the bad points past exams and took them to my worried list. very bad life it was. Things've change I'm the happiest ppl, looking to be happier. the worst thing of mine is I never get satisfied.

yea i understand as soon as you hit the 'present' it becomes the past. the moment you hit the future it becomes the present and the past in an instant. there is a great debate about time from a science/philosophy background.

in todays society(atleast in the US) there is this assumption that "all i need"(the jerk) mentality. which comes from looking to the future and saying as soon as i get this i'll be happy.

the way to be satisfied is to realize you are limited. with computers/knowledge the more you know the more there is to know. the amount of information goes up exponentially. same with our needs the more we have the more we want. we have to be aware of this physical limitation.

Its that kind of attitude that will get nothing accomplished. If you accept your limitations then you are your limitation.

The way I see it, what happened in my past has made me who I am today. I've made bad decisions, I've made good decisions, there have been some seriously crappy times and some amazing times.... I wouldn't change a second of it - not even the worst moments when I wanted nothing more than to just end everything.

I am very happy and content with who I am right now and I wouldn't be that person if not for my past experiences.

Damn true. That's just how I feel as well.

And @ twoseven: You sound just like a girl I know. I made some bad desicions in the past towards her, and she has clearly stated that she will never let that go. This pisses me off to no end, because it's frequently biasing her view on what could be a much brighter future.

Those that live in the past only destroy themselves. If you live in the past because bad things happened you don't want to forget, those things will forever poison you and ultimately make you unable to feel happy about anything you have in the present. If you live in the past because good things happened you don't want to forget, you will only drive away potential sources of happiness in the future because you will always compare them to the past. Good things are never forgotten.

But of course, anyone is free to live just however the hell they want. If they want to live in their own little bubble of the past, then that's their choice - just don't whine about all the ++++ things in the present because most of it is your own fault.

(This last paragraph was not directed towards twoseven, it was just a general statement.)

My past is my past - It has made me who I am today...

I wouldn't change it because I wouldn't be the same - I've made some very bad decisions but currently, aside from a few minor mishaps, my life has never been better

It's like if you go to the past and kill Hitler before he starts the WWII then who knows what would happen, the Earth vanishes ?
