vbulletin should give like a free mug for accurate pirate reporting, like an incentive
Nice idea actually, but I think due to the large scale of pirated boards and sites participating in trafficing illegal distributions of the script alot of mugs would end up being given out. I myself would to date have a few hundred mugs.
With the amount of sites I report on a daily basis they'd be out of business within 24 hours
How do you detect if someone is using a pirated vB?
I cant imagine every forum has in their header "OMFGZ wtfz wi r oozinge d3 3vi1 h4xx0r pir4t3d vBoooletin! olololololololollolololololoololll!!!111one"
Well put it this way Im a casual vb-user it runs my site and i maintain it, once in a while I come across a vB thats illegal and report it, so far in about 2yrs ive reported maybe 6-10 boards max.
Still that would mean Id have a pretty good set of mugs lol

Sometimes we do not know for sure, but report it anyways, and if it is indeed using an illegal copy of the vBulletin software, than Jelsoft will take care of it, else they will just leave as is.
Yeah but I dont think people go reporting every damn vb forum out there in case they using illegal, eh
Is there a way of noticing it even if its unclear if they use pirated? Id like to help in stoppin these leechers, but I dont want to go reporting everybody even tho I know the report aint being traced back to me...

There are many things though could be legit that would give it away.
The board does not have a visible full copyright visible (though option to remove that is available it is rarely opted for by the majority).
By analyzing the topic of the board sometimes you can judge or even be suspicious (I am not mentioning any topics because arguments will arise debating against or agreeing, which is not needed)
Obviously any forum legit (licensed) but distributing the software for download is in direct incompliance of the agreement.
There is not much you can do in getting 100% pirating boards, nor does one have the time to go snitch them out. If you fall upon one that seems suspicious or you observe something suspicious in regards to similarities in filenames to vBulletin but copyright differences, it can vary alot.
It just comes down to, your gut feeling, and do you have the time.
