Imagine what all the coders here at vb.org could come up with if they teamed with vb.com staff!! World domination, that should show them

But anyway, no violent talk is allowed here aparantly

I don't know the exact details but considering the effect of the attack, I would not say it is a script kiddie. I think he is a competent and real hacker.

My concern is that this is getting a frequent "business" nowadays. There are some people around who browses internet, find a company that does business over internet and if they think this company has a good income, they threaten to attack their site unless they are paid. And they really attack too. I see this in many sites and I'm sure there are other sites who paid so we dont see the attack on them, so the attacts should be just the tip of the iceberg. This is just scary..

If it's possible to offer a LIVE mirror site, I'd be willing to barter with Jelsoft for space.

I hate seeing it when another board goes down. Especially a support board!

I personally cant see them allowing any mirror sites or anything, as its a buisness and all.

Hope things work themselves out in the end though

Its probably Bin Laden doing it or somet like that **shruggs**

I understand having to ban IP address because of this, and I know that users that have dynamic IP addresses can really have a problem, but how many times should we have to submit the exact same IP address to VB? Is it not possible for them to keep a record of customers and their IP addresses and not ban these address? I've had the same IP for nearly a year and every time the DOS attacks start up again I have to email VB to ask them to unblock my IP.

We aren't banning just IP address, in order to circumvent these attacks we have to ban entire regions and countries. For instance there are a lot of Zombie computers in Germany used in the attack. We could spend hours tracking down each individual IP out of the hundreds of thousands in the log or we can ban Germany and allow individual IP addresses later.

The easiest way to solve these issues is to get everyone you know to patch their Windows computers, install a firewall and virus checker and not participate in the attacks themselves.

Im confused - I havent been able to get to VBulletin.com for a while now. Every couple days I get lucky and it seems to come up..

Is it being attacked and I jast cant get through ?
Or have they banned all of comcast ip's ?

I guess the question is - As a paying customer is there something I need to do to be able to see the site ??

Thanks Doug
