every deleted posts would be unindexed, that's what takes a while....
so if you delte the majority of your posts, maybe delete them with phpmyadmin and afterthat reindex the searchengine would be fasster

Exactly. I was pruning 20,000 posts from my Trashcan forum, and that was why it took so long... an hour and a half I think. Anyway, it made me feel better.

I run a dedicated dual CPU server, so it's not slow from a hardware point of view.
