Why don't you use an already made support system? There's Chrid Padfield's excellent DeskPRO (www.deskpro.com).

So, your saying that I should expect to pay $795 or more for this "hack"? I find that a little hard to believe, but it's your opinion and you have a right to it.
I've seen hacks on here that are a lot more involved that are free, I can understand, $100, $200 and maybe even maybe $300 but $800 , I think that's a little excessive. Of course, this is just my opinion as well. Thanks Though Josh |

People are paying a lot for hacks, trust me, I know.
Let's say you asked someone to code vBulletin for you. That someone will charge a whole lot more than than $160, because it's a one-time job and the person is not going to sell it to anyone else. DeskPRO is a commerical product so it's relatively cheap (if you think about the time it takes to create it), and it's the same with vBulletin. That's why you should only hire someone if you think you won't find what you're looking for anywhere else, something so unique no one else has done before. |

I totally agree with you that it is much cheaper when someone can spread the cost of development out over many different people.
But... I still think $800 for a support ticket hack is a little much. Honestly if I knew just a little bit more I could probably do it, which is most likely what I will do as I can't afford $800 at all for a support system. Another problem I have is that I plan to spread this support system out over a couple different sites (i.e. Installing it on a couple different sites not sharing of a support ticket database) and it would be VERY cost prohibitive for me to pay $800 for a license for each site. Thanks for all your posts though. I really wish I could have found someone to do something like this as I'm sure it would have been a great addon. Josh |

As quoted from your txt file:

If you look around at the hacks on vb.org you will see bits and pieces you can adapt from these to add to the script to get it to work to your liking. You can also post here and we will help you work it out. |

Thanks Dark Wizard.... I see what you mean. I'm going to get working on it as soon as I can. I'm really suprised that no one has implemented any kind of help ticket system at all though.

the one that I have can accomodate more than 25 simultaneous ones with low server load. try it here
it can initiate chat to any visitor surfing the site. I would love to be able to incorporate it in the buddy list for Instant Message. |

To be honest, the issue with the support system is not really a support kind of thing. Basically my site is a Neighborhood website so if someone wants to make a maintenance request right now they have to fill out paperwork, submit it, wait for a response, that kind of thing.
I would like to automate the whole process where they can fill out the form. The system will save the form and they can look up their status and see how it's going. Thanks for the link though, Josh PS.. Just out of curiousity who is that live support through and how much does it cost? |
