Bwahaha. You guys can argue semantics all you want -- doesn't bother me.
Yes, it certainly can function that way! But it still definitely retains a relatively strong connotation of maleness, in general. If someone says to you, "Look at that dude over there!" who are you going to look for: a girl or a guy? Regardless, everyone knew exactly what I meant as soon as they read the word in my post; so in that sense, there's nothing to dispute about whether I used the word correctly. Thanks, dudette! |
