[OzzModz] Usergroup Color Legend Details »» | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Another mod brought to you by,
Here is a small modification you can use to show a usergroup color legend various places on forum home. It is a simple installation, just import the product XML, product-ozzmodz_usergroup_legend Make sure you disable or uninstall any other usergroup legend mods you have running. You can edit the options under the settings, OzzModz: Usergroup Legend Settings Complete Feature List
Frequently Asked Questions. Q. Why are all the groups / users are the same color? A. For those of you not familiar with, or have issue with html markup, here is a quick guide. Username HTML Markup. ACP --> Usergroups --> Usergroup Manager edit each usergroup, you will need to add the html to the two input fields found in the setting, Username HTML Markup. NOTE: Your field boxes won't be as wide as the ones in the image, I over-sized them for illustration purposes. The first field is the opening tag. The second field is the closing tag. These tags will be inserted around the user's username like this: Code:
[opening tag]username[closing tag] Code:
<span style="font-weight: bold;"> </span> <span style="text-decoration: line-through; font-weight:bold;"> </span> <span style="font-style: italic;"> </span> <span style="text-decoration: underline;"> </span> <span style="color: red;"> </span> First field Code:
<span style="color: Red;"> Code:
</span> First field Code:
<span style="color: Blue; font-weight: bold;"> Code:
</span> Q. Wait, I have different colored styles, it is very difficult to choose a color to work on them all, what can I do? A. Well then you should use this solution. It will take time to set up for each usergroup, but it's worth it. First off add this code to your additional.css templates for all your styles. In each style you can define a different color for each group. You can add more groups or change the names as you wish. Code:
.admin { color: #FF0000; font-weight: bold; } .moderator { color: #0000ff; font-weight: bold; } .supermod { color: #32CD32; font-weight: bold; } .registered { color: #802A2A; font-weight: bold; } .banned { color: #000000; text-decoration: line-through; font-weight: bold; } .group1 { color: #FF8000; font-weight: bold; } .group2 { color: #A020F0; font-weight: bold; } .group3 { color: #FFC0CB; font-weight: bold; } Example 1 First field Code:
<span class="admin"> Code:
</span> First field Code:
<span class="moderator"> Code:
</span> You can get a good list of colors here, Color Codes The first screenshot is of the settings in the acp. The second screenshot is of the legend in the What's Going On area. The third screenshot is of the legend, when it is displayed in the locations, Forumhome Above Forums, Forumhome Below Forums, and Forumhome Below NavBar. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you like this mod please hit the button to the right ----> Please remember to click the, button to the right if you installed the mod ----> What does 'Marking As Installed' do ? * It helps you to stay on top of updates - members who have installed modifications will be notified whenever new updates are available. * For security issues - vBulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention. * Marking a modification as installed also helps me know how many people are using my work, giving me extra incentive to provide more features and new modifications. One thing I've wanted to see on one of these mods is how a similar mod for IP.Board (2.3.6) had setup. You had a bit more of a graphical display of which groups were displayed and could also sort them. Here's how it looked:
Also, perhaps add the option to link to the usergroup if you have leadership over it (via memberlist.php?usergroupid=<usergroup id>)? |

Is that how the list would look on the forumhome?

It would be in that order, if that's what you mean. The image itself is from that mod I was talking about for IP.Board 2.3.6 (been about 6-7 years). I was thinking if you wanted to conform to how vB normally handles sortable items, list each group and then allow Admins to input the sort number it'd be (ie: 10, 20, 30, etc.) and then let 0 mean the group isn't listed, but that method can be a PITA if you have many usergroups to go through.

Yeah that would require quite a bit of coding, and probably some info added to the DB, IMO it is just to much for something that is not seen by the public, and is only for admin control.

I wouldn't think it would require as much work as you're giving it off as. I mean, you already have ways of displaying all of the usergroups and then throwing in some text fields to input the sort order has also been done (ie: forum sort). I just find the current method to be an even bigger PITA because I have to go back and forth between the usergroups and the mod settings to figure out where each group should go.

True, but how many times do you change the settings once they are set up?

For my community personally, we add and remove usergroups (staff and public) fairly often, so I wouldn't say it's necessarily uncommon.
