Ya I'm going to see what kind of response I get from the hosting company. I don't know what to do about the high numbers either.

They apparently don't know what that message is from. I think the problem is with the high server load numbers... Is there anything I can do about that, or is that a hosting issue? Why are the numbers so high if there are only a handfull of people on the forum at a time?

Here is what they said:

Note that the forum maintenance function will only delete any temporary tables data and old logs. It is not reindexing the database for better performance. In order to have your database reindexed and any slow queries removed you may need to contact an expert php/MySQL developer.

Also you may check with the vBulletin developers for any caching component you may use to create static content. This should also speed up the website as some of the queries will be executed only if new content is added.

Is that correct? How do I reindex the database for better performance? Also they said their server load is below 3... Obviously that doesn't agree with what my admin CP page is saying. When I checked again the numbers were all above 10!

Nines and tens aren't all that high. 50s and up, are. THe server load numbers are for the whole hosting you are sharing, not just your vB installation.

The host is blowing smoke up your rear end. Time to move to a worthwhile host.

The server load is way too high. Especially since you barely have anyone online. By way of comparison: I have a server load below 2 and have around 5000 people online. While this is highly dependent upon what kind of server your site is running on, its pretty clear that you need to ditch your host and get a new one.

Any good recomendations? Currently I'm spending around 8 bucks a month for unlimited space, on a shared linux server. They are trying to get me to upgrade to the dedicated server deal but thats $50 bucks or more a month. As you can see, traffic is low and I only have a total of 400 members worldwide... Its a pretty small niche forum. I don't see why I should need to spend that kind of money to host something so small, it had always been fine up till now.

THanks for the info,
Jason

The server load is not for only your site, but for all sites hosted on the same server. So how many people are online on your forum is for the server load irrelevant.

As a rule of thumb for good performance the server load should stay under 1 for each CPU in the server (so if you are on a 2 CPU server, the load should stay under 2). A load of 9 is pretty high for most servers and will probably result in slower load times. A load of 50, as others say, is a level where a server becomes really unresponsive and it might be even difficult to get a response on the commandline.

You could do the following test:
- Turn off your forum for 15 minutes.
- During this time monitor the server load. Best to do from cPanel/Plesk or such if installed. Note the numbers.
- Turn on your forum again.

Contact your host support with the numbers you collected and ask them for an explanation if the high serverload. If they try to blame your site for it, explain that you have measured these numbers while your forum was offline, so it can not be caused by your site but must be from another site hosted on the same number.

Either way you have to move....

A) If the load is caused by your site, you have to find a better host.

B) If the load is caused by another site, you probably SHOULD move.

I am glad i found this thread, the exact same thing is happening to me!

I am with TMDhosting and my forum is loading painfully slow, i also only have 500 total members and less than 10 online users at a time.

I tried contacting them and they also told me i needed to buy another package for 50 dlls a month.

I do however own other 2 websites hosted with that company and i haven't had any problems with them only with my forum. Also my intro page loads very fast but when i try to enter the forum it gets painfully slow.

Also i am getting the same msg: i have no idea why i never even heard of this guys they wan't me to migrate and they want to charge me an amoun for this? why???

Migrate Now!

Numerous notifications have been sent to the account owner requesting that domains migrate over to DynDNS.com services as soon as possible. These notifications were sent starting 90 days prior to the September 9th, 2011 deadline.

If you are the owner of this domain and didn?€™t receive a notification about this migration, it could be because the email address on your account was invalid. You can begin the migration by going to https://www.dyndns.com/welcome/. If you are not the owner of this site, please pass this link along to the owner of the site.

If you have migrated this zone already but haven't delegated please check out the steps outlined for our Dyn Standard DNS users.

Who set up your DNS servers for your domain? That is who you need to talk to. (Usually it is the people you bought the domain from or your host.)

I am getting the same EveryDNS message at the base of my forum suddenly, and I suspect it may be connected to an older version issue. My site BTW is expatkores.com/bbs

loading the page and looking at the source, it looks like it is is loading right after the following:

// Main vBulletin Javascript Initialization
vBulletin_init();
//-->

Anyone have any thoughts?

--------------- Added [DATE]1315481509[/DATE] at [TIME]1315481509[/TIME] ---------------

I've notices that my non PHP pages are fine....

http://www.expatkorea.com <----- no error, and is a pure html page

http://www.expatkorea.com/bbs <---- Can anyone explain the message at the bottom of the forum? Doing a google search on it shows it on a LOT of other forums. it HAS to be in the code. I don't believe it is a hacker issue.

To Lynne: My DNS was done through DNS Central, and it is good through 2016. This is in my code somehow. Is it possibly plugin related? Could there be a call in the Vbulletin software to an expiring DNS? Any thoughts are appreciated.

I might add, this DNS in the message is related to the Wikileaks fiasco.

Try disabling your modifications/plugins and see if you still have this problem.
Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit includes/config.php and add this line right under <?php

PHP Code:
define('DISABLE_HOOKS'true);
that notice is definitely not from the default vbulletin code.
