Oye lol but in the least this beats a old Athlon II XP w/ 2 Gigs but I hear ya on that now that I've done some more reading it seems I made a decent choice... after seeing the custom rigs users submitted on the EVGA site I said I give up lol... for pete's sake vijayninel check these out here:

www.evga.com/community/modsrigs/

WOW is all I can say to some of the machines listed!

And admittedly I've always been a AMD and nvidia fan so I try to stay with those but currently the i7 even the one I purchased for that price was better than the AMD they offered and long story short above all else I had to stay somewhere close to the $1500, I was a little over at $1800 and my wife let me live the condition? New living room furniture next then I must redo the kitchen after that... fair trade for a new PC I suppose . Although I did price this again for my wife off of a custom pc site and it came up right at $3300 so building it myself saved me quite a bit and boy if I had more $$$ it would have been similar to one of the rigs you see above .

I know I'll be kicking myself for a few choices but overall I'm pleased and parts have already shipped minus the graphic cards from evga.

Wish me luck! I'll post the 3D Mark 11 (http://www.3dmark.com/) results when I receive the full version they include that if you purchase a 500 series card from evga directly so waiting on box for serial # then free full version so we'll see how bad this baby is!

I'm looking forward to doing a new rig before the end of the year. Looking forward to 16gb of ram. 8 works most of the time, but i really hate how MS handles using virtual memory. So I've got it disabled. I hate hitting the ceiling

Shoot I can't wait to see how it will be... from XP 2GB to Win 7 w/ 24GB... I know 8gb is typically the most w/ any extra picking up the slack from what I've read however I know when I do find time to game the other memory will help and besides I like to leave open tons of programs, browsers and more while I work all day so that should put a stomp on me being faster then my PC... finally my PC will be waiting on me again .

Zachery... check that link to the modsrigs above... you might drool worse than Homer Simpson over a doughnut .

Well I've always been a fan of performance whether it is Intel/Nvidia/AMD-ATI . The point is that the current generation of Sandy Bridge processors vastly outperforms the older generation of processors so a Sandy Bridge Core i5 2500 can outperform a Core i7 from the older generation of processors in a lot of the benchmarks.

However the processor is not very important these days as it used to be and also on Bloomfield you can easily overclock the processor unlike the Sandy Bridge processors which Intel has most unfortunately locked, save the K series for which you have to pay more. So take full advantage of this and overclock your processor to its maximum.

But I think where you have gone majorly wrong is in selection of the graphic card. For Rs.300 (about US $6) more, you could have got the HD6850 which greatly outperforms the GTX550. Anyway, what's done is done. Good luck on clocking those.

I'm going to check into overclocking the i7, never done that before however can't be that hard same as anything else .

You might be right about the cards but bear in mind I opted for the GTX 550 Ti Superclocked, a regular Radeon 6850 non-OC runs at:

775MHz Engine Clock

Now even the Radeon OC version runs:
820MHz Engine Clock

GeForce GTX 550 Ti Superclocked:
981MHz
*Even beats out the Memory Clock on each Radeon at 4514MHz where as the OC Radeon had 4400MHz.

So not sure if you were thinking of the normal 550 Ti but then again I'm no graphics card expert I did however want to go look that up and also noticed a 2GB Radeon Card last while browsing so it made me look at the specs closer and no I did not check comparisons between OC version by different manufacturers if there would be etc.

Its not just about the clock frequency anymore, the architecture of the chip is the main thing. I havent seen reviews of any EVGA cards but uou can see the 950mhz (core) overclocked MSI GTX 550 review here http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforc...yclone-ii-oc/1

As you can see from the benchmarks, the HD 6850 completely destroys the GTX 550 in those benchmarks while consuming less power as well.

Edit: There you go EVGA review as well http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...yte-msi-9.html

Yeah admittedly I'm out of the loop, back in my hayday Nvidia always stomped out the competition but wow in those specs it fell short and I just picked up BFBC2 for $6 a month or so back so will be using it and some other new games off Steam to test it out and would have been nice to know it looked the best it could ohh well you know how this goes... I have 2 550's on the way and there's better out already, will be in a few weeks the best thing to do is eyeball one and then wait for it to come down you simply can't keep up and everything is outdated the second after your order is submitted .

Some of the custom rigs I've seen online in the last day or two make my new pc look like a hobo on the corner while they drive by in a new BMW or Mercedes ... see outdated and outdone already .

Well anyway congratulations on your new PC, I'm sure it can comfortably run all the new games but be more careful and do some more research the next time you upgrade your PC.

BTW, How did you like BFBC2 ? I didn't enjoy it that much they have made it exactly like COD4. I'm just crossing the bars on my wall and waiting for Battlefield3.

Thanks I know I run off at the mouth too much ask my wife ROFL! I'm the keep on talking type.. not too bad off yet where you must start backing up to get away ... YET .

To be honest, I played it 5 minutes, have some other new games for Windows live marketplace that would not even load on my XP so looking forward to finally playing those as well. I'll let you know more about BFBC2 once I dig into it... I loved BF2 and other FPS but something about the sci-fi future aspect of 2142 really did a hook line and sinker on me so I might be playing that more than ever on this (I know!). I picked up DarkSiders off Steam last night and have wanted that for ages the recent $10 pricetag made me go for it so yes some outdated games per say but they should look awesome as you said I can't wait .

I do need some new off hour gamers to run around with, my old group went over to phpBB and I can't stand to login there ohh it aches me sooo to even look at the site and I was about to join a clan but if your busy all the time it's best to make a few friends who keep odd hours like you play with or those who are on oppsosite hours i.e. overseas when you happen to still be up and have a minute so I might be in touch .

OMG .... How can you still be using XP till now ? :O you wont even have DX10 on that much less DX11 ... Battlefield2 is really great but have you seen the some of the previews of Battlefield 3 yet?

Unfortunately we cant post videos here on vb.org as yet but have a look on youtube .. heres one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA378g_gD1I

And yes I too have noted that a lot of the gaming clans have gone over to Phpbb, facebook etc because vB has become too pricey for them. Well anyway ... I hope to see some good low ping servers and clans when that is released.
