I've always hated the feature myself. One of the reasons why I rarely post here anymore.

What about if it only merged if the post was made within 24 hours of the original one? And then after that doing the normal additional post thing.

Since I doubt it affects your posting that often, that seems a somewhat lame excuse. However, thats your choice of course. There are no plans to change it. |

@ OP, depends what you want the feature for really.
Personally I wouldn't use it on my site, I did install a plugin for it though but I quicly removed it as it wasn't doing what I wanted it to do. For some reason since upgrading to VB4 the dumplicate post warning no longer works and I'm getting plagued to death with DP's (not the sexual kind ) I thought the plug in would stop that but it doesn't, it actually makes the site look worse. For here, I think it's fine though. These boards are very large and you don't want to have the place overly cluttered. |

This feature is absolutely essential. It should actually be made a default feature of vBulletin.

Fair enough then. I don't really see a problem with it then. 24 hours shouldn't make much difference so if you really want to update the topic and make sure your update is seen you can just wait the 24 hours. I just assumed it auto merged any and all double posts which I could see would be an annoyance.
If I had it on my own forum I'd probably use a much lower time frame like an hour or something, but for here it makes sense to be 24 hours. |

I'm not debating that there are people out there who would btt a topic every 2 hours if they could, but I've yet to find a forum on here where 2 or 3 hours would knock a topic from the top half of a page, let alone off the first page totally. Can I ask if traffic has changed much since this was implemented?

Yeah, there's usually a lot of threads made between early morning (9:00AM GMT) and evening time (5:00PM GMT).
