Interesting. Wonder why it's doing it then. Regardless though, I don't see how that could affect file permissions. I'm really at a loss here.

I really don't know either. I did this same upgrade (3.6 to 3.8) just last January and didn't have this issue at all so I don't think this is some issue with that particular upgrade. Have you actually looked on your server and seen that the permissions are different for the new files versus the old files?

I've been the only one who has touched the server during and since the upgrade. There have been no changes to the server. But if there's a server setting I should check, I can do so.

I'm not a server person so I wouldn't know what to point you to. I was just asking because I've had people say that nothing has changed but it turns out their host did an upgrade and they weren't aware of it.
Have you looked at your error_logs to see if anything is going on in them when you are uploading an avatar/attachment? |
