There just needs to be a text stating that the downloads are not available in this section. It would take less than 10 min to write and add to the templates. They could even use a plugin and add very little code to make sure the upgrades are handled seemlessly untill something could be used in a future version.

Its a stop gap until I have time to look at adding something to the actual thread display.

Despite the fact you think its a quick 5/10 minute job, it isnt, the template is already a spagetti mess of conditionals, and needs a bit of sorting out.

<Grumble mode on>

Is there a particular reason why the archives can't be downloaded?

I can see reasons such as "too many people weren't checking their vB versions", but as long as vB.com's member area allows downloads of older versions, it'd be handy to be able to download modifications for those same versions. If the forum gets hacked, then it's on the admin who installed it, not on Jelsoft or vBulletin.org.

Here's why I ask.... I saw a question on the .com about adding additional links for longer "today's posts" searches. Knowing I had seen the code over here at some point in the past, I came here to look for the right verbiage to add to the search.php query.

I found the right stuff here and here, but can't download them because they're archived. Thankfully the latter one had a link to a 3.5 version that is still downloadable.

My search term here was "today's posts", "all mods", and "titles only"... no equivalent mods show up for 3.5 or newer show up in that search.

Mostly because mods in there are unstable or will do more harm than good, or the coder doesnt want his work being used anymore.

Having seen the code that .org used back in the day (eyes private server), I'll believe you to a certin extent. But it shouldn't take that long.

But its a step in the right direction, so I appreicate your time and efforts on the matter

Nice backhanded compliment.

But it's a compliment for Paul at least so it's a step in the right direction.

Well, in yesterday's case, all I needed was the &days= parameter -- I'm fairly sure that that's not proprietary code of an add-on, as it worked on my un-modded test 3.8.2 forum.

I support the withdrawl of hazardous code, and can understand if an author specifically withdraws their code from distribution. Those are both fine, but I thought those types of mods were being placed in "Modification Graveyard".

None of the add-ons in yesterday's question were in "Modification Graveyard" at the time I searched for them.

The reason I bring this up now, and in this thread -- instead of blocking downloads of pre-3.5 mods, maybe a lighbox type of notice could be displayed when one tries to download it: "This modification is for an unsupported version of vBulletin and may not be suitable for current versions." and provide "download anyway" and "cancel download" buttons.

As I mentioned yesterday, vBulletin.com's member area still allows downloads of older versions... I think going all the way back to 1.x series. If I want to use my vBulletin license for an older version, I'd rather get matching modifications from here than go to the unauthorized sites where code may have been tampered with.

If you're talking about warez sites, I wouldn't go there even if the code wasn't tampered with.

But to make this post on topic (well, related to yours, you seem to be trying to derail this one ), it does state in the forum rules you agree to when signing up that the staff decision is final. They have decided that modifications for past versions shall not be supported, ergo, it is for good reason. They aren't doing it just to say "F*ck you", it's to encourage people to use the up-to-date version of the software.

I know it's beside the point - but the oldest version you can download is 2.3.x.
