/showthread.php was not found on this server

Hi
I've done a fresh install of v3.7.0 b6 and am starting it up as a new forum so the database is new. There are no mods, all I've done is changed the colours.

(I previously had a working version of 3.6.8 PL2 on the same server.)

The problem I am having is that you cannot view the threads that have been posted by the new members today. They have never been viewable.

I get this browser message when trying to access a thread

Not Found

The requested URL /showthread.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

PS - the file showthread.php IS on the server within the forums folder. I can't even access it by typing it in as a standalone url, but all the other php pages work, thus I don't think it is a vbulletin problem but have no idea.

The forums holder is 755 and the showthread.php file is 644 although I did try this on 777

If you have a .htaccess file in either your home (../public_html/.) or forumhome (../public_html/forums/.) then try renaming them for a short time and see if that resolves your problem. You might have a bad redirect rule in there.

What i do see in the log is that (even at the end) your forum is installed at ./forums, but you are trying to load /showthread instead of /forums/showthread.

Are there any mod_rewrite rules set? I did some work for a site recently that ahd the same problem with member.php and it turned out there was a mod rewrite rule in an htaccess file in the site root folder.

As it happens there were other .htaccess files on the server. Deleting them changed the error message but didn't solve the problem. So I did a fresh install. I wiped clean everything on my hosting space and reinstalled. The same problem occured:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@........ and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Thanks for all your help. The problem has now been fixed by my host.

I had to add a ReWrite rule in your public_html/.htaccess file to fix the issue.

I'm afraid all this is above me, so I have no idea why this was necessary for my standard installation when previously 3.6.8 PL2 worked fine.

It would be interesting to see what they had to add to your htaccess file. You may want to ask them and then post it here and perhaps someone can explain what your host did.

He should be able to view that himself in the domain root. I, too, am interested in what needed to be added for this.
