I was a happy user of servage hosting, until my site got popular and then since, 2 days.. My site got shut down for the second time now.... For server overload.

This is the email i got :

Quote:
I'm afraid I have bad news for you. We have been forced
to take your account offline for the day due to an extremely
high load on your account. At this time today our servers have
served more than 417011 requests for your account.

You have not used to too much transfer it is a load issue meaning
that your site has used too many CPU resources on the cluster. If
more customers on the cluster caused such high load it would make
other sites on the system run slower which would not be fair to the
webmaster of those sites.
Servage claims to offer 3600 GB bandwidth but looking at the stats, i dont consume more than 50 GB bandwidth per day. so whats the problem here ? What should i do next ?

My vbulletin info:
Version : 3.6.4
I have 3 styles , 20+ mods installed.
Average users online per day : 500-700

Tried looking up some information on dedicated servers but terms like "Xeon" ,"Woodcrest" , "Switch Port" really scared me .

Also, dedicated servers offer not more than 1000 Gb bandwidth for 100$+ !!!! but servage claims to offer me 3600 GB bandwidth for 7$ a month for shared hosting !! Is this a rip-off ..?? or whats the hidden thing i dont see ????

Thanks for your help in advance.

No, stop getting a VPS. I'm giving you this advice from the bottom of my heart and I don't want you to go through all the troubles and issues that I had while I was on VPS. I got my own VPS just a few weeks ago but it didn't do any good to me so I had no other choice but to go for a dedicated. VPS is STILL considered as shared virtual private hosting so it's not really a good idea to go for. I never ever had such big issues while I was on shared hosting until I've moved to VPS. I highly recommend you to get any of the dedicated plans by Liquid Web. At least, that's where I got my dedicated a couple of days ago and I gotta say that I'm really impressed with the change so far. Your forum is definitely huge as it is already so you must get a dedicated one. The webmaster series will do just fine. ;]

I average 500+ online at any given time with half a million posts on a VPS from PowerVPS with no problems at all, and still room to expand on my current VPS plan.

Snake took the words right out of my mouth.

When my forum got too busy for shared, I went to VPS, and didn't last too too long there, either.

I bounced around from dedicated host to dedicated host, and landed at Liquid Web a few months ago.

THRILLED, THRILLED, THRILLED.

When you have a problem, you just pick up the phone, and there's someone there to take your call who can generally fix the problem while you're on the line.

Go with VPS if your site 'growth' is slow, but if you're growing at even a moderate pace, you'll outgrow a VPS in short order and end up looking for a dedicated solution.

In the meantime...run, don't walk, to Liquid Web.

(Btw, I found them after noticing another 'big board' that was running [smoothly]. they were using Liquid web)

Wholeheartedly agree with the liquidweb sentiment... Been there for 4 years now and wouldn't use another host if you paid me.

What I did was went VPS1 then to VPS2 when I outgrew it, and since I was in the same datacentre, when I outgrew the VPS2 and had to go to dedicated, all the upgrades were seamless and I suffered no downtime.

Liquidweb all the way!

I am with FluidHosting.com and am paying $150 a month for a dedicated server. War, I feel your frustration because I had the same thing happen to me when I was with my last server company.

Send me an email at gobears20@baylorfans.com and I will give you the contact person who owns FluidHosting. I have been with five different server companies and this is by far the best one that I have been with. They have the best customer service that I have ever seen! I send an email and receive confirmation that they received it in less than five minutes.

My server is:

PowerEdge 750 Rackmount Server
P4/2.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB
1 GB memory
80 GB SATA drive

I average anywhere from 1.7-3 million page views a month and my message board is 1.7GB on SQL. I am about to upgrade my memory to four gb;'s on this server. Take my advice and whatever you do, research companies before you make a jump. Send me a PM or an email and I can give you the head person, because they specialize in VB message boards. I also have around 20 mods running on my VB right now.

You can visit my message board to see how well it runs... http://www.baylorfans.com

Sincerely,
Jason
