Yea linux for a desktop is all new to me. I've been using it since ~97 and never used it as a desktop replacement. I'm liking it though A lot of learning in X - I find myself opening up xterm to do everything because I don't want to figure out how to do it in X.
I'm currently using Ubuntu Linux 6.10, although I have live CDs of openSUSE 10.2, Mandriva Linux 2007 and Fedora Core 6 that I'm going to be trying out.
Edit: And none of those Live CDs worked for me, so I guess I'll be sticking with Ubuntu for the long haul.
I'm using xUbuntu right now on an old laptop of mine. It takes virtually nothing to run it, and it seems to be a pretty stable distro (I've used Redhat, Fedora, Mandrake, and Slackware in the past, but xUbuntu is definitely my distro of choice right now.)
