Ok I did this in a few hours since I get asked so much about my scripts on other sites so don't expect much. It is a very lite portal but can be easily expanded and customized to your likings!

Sorry if you are expecting the normal rich feature portal, I just don't have the time to make one.

Maybe in the future I will have some more time to spend on this and make it better

Ran into my first issue when trying to install, when I go into the plugin system (using vBulletin 3.6.0), it says "This file appears to be a Product, not a Plugin. Please use Manage Products to add this file."

I then added it as a product but nothing is showing up in my vBulletin options. Do I need to add a product dependency or anything? I am kinda new to this plugin stuff.

Nevermind, I did not name the product correctly - it must be named the same as the filename.

No, I may port it to 3.5.x as it is pretty much the same code.

Awesome, i'd love to see this take off and users contribute to it, as it seems the other portal solution is slowly dying off

Is there a way to force update the news? I noticed that if you edit a post it does not automatically update, only when a new news item is posted.

Mucho kudos on this BTW. It works very similar to the setup that InvisionBoard has for handling news.

I have a similar question....

When you delete a thread from the forum it feeds off of, the post still stays in the portal.

How do i get rid of it?

You can run the cron script called News Cache. This was a trade off to make this script to use very little load. I may make it so deleted threads and edited threads will update it also if it isn't to much work.

Otherwise it will update when a new thread is posted or at 15 past or 15 to the hour.

So would I. I always had people ask me what I use for a news script and could only tell them it was home made and I couldn't point them in any direction to one for them to use as they are all paid now . . . If anyone wants to make additions please pos them here and I will add them in my files download list so people may use them.

I've installed this hack but when I try putting $navbar in the the header or index, it doesn't appear. Where would I put it?

EDIT; Doesn't seem to work anywhere.....
