I suggest giving the change some time. Experiment with it and see how it goes. As things were before, users were complaining about being unable to find mods in the forums. I am sure the modification database will evolve to be a feature-rich solution for sorting the code.

I think the thread prefixes are okay. It's just a different way of viewing subforums but with the advantage you can view them all at once.
I don't like the idea of merging all hacks into one generic forum "add-ons" though. For one thing, code modifications aren't really addons. Pedantics aside, I know it's probably a bit easier for collective searches - though advanced search > select the forums you want always worked fine. And I know it looks a little less confusing to new people, but it's frustrating to have to go into each result and scan the textboxes to see what type it is. It's not so much a hack db as just mass merging. This site has tons of hackers and designers on it, as well as many more casual hack users. Wouldn't it be better to ask them what would be a good design to have rather than just assuming and throwing something together that doesn't actually make things any better? |

Exactly. Isn't the point of a hack database to have things sorted and organized for easier viewing? Granted, some may say that having all the hacks jumbled up with one another makes for easier viewing, but the whole point is to catalogue them.

The prefix system is okay, but the issue now is that it takes a helluva lot more navigation to get to what you want.
1) Go to forum's homepage 2) Click on Modifications 3) Click on your version of vb 4) Click dropdown menu to hunt down the sorta mod you're looking for I know, I know it's not a big deal to click a few times. But four clicks to get to the juice of your content? Any website owner worth the name knows that you don't want your audience to have to drill down a navigation structure that frustrates them. The whole raison d'etre of vb.org is the modification area. What's the benefit of hiding the mods away and making things more complicated than necessary? The staff here is great, but geeze, I gotta wonder what's going on when y'all keep making things harder and less intuitive for your userbase. Do you guys remember the old hack database during the vb2 era? How easy it was to access? And best of all, people could get to things either through the homepage hierarchy or the more narrowly organized database. (Options = good!) Vb3 makes it even easier to create alternate views like this. Well, I know you're still futzing around to see what works. That's cool. It'll take some experimenting I guess. Why not ask your users what they suggest? There'll always be differences of opinion, but perhaps a consensus can be found. Not to mention the fact that since things are still a bit tense around here, it's probably beneficial for the atmosphere if you invite the membership to help brainstorm. Ain't it worth trying? |

Current modification category system isn't really that good and doesn't look professional. However use the Show All links to see all at once: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showmods.php?

I really dislike it, and I agree to call this a hack db is laughable, it's merely subforums with prefixes that are cluttered together with hacks mixed and matched.
But whatever, I'll wait and see how it goes. But if this is the "hack db" color me incredibly dissapointed. |
