-----------------
- Brought To You By: - - MediaFlavor.com - - Custom VB Mods, Extensions, and Plugins ----------------- This extension will automatically check new posts against the Akismet spam rulesets and identify spam if it is posted on your site. All spam is set to moderated status until an admin/moderator approves/deletes it. This setting can be set on a usergroup basis so only certain usergroups are scanned. I have no affiliation with Akismet, I just know that it catches about 99% of all spam I get on my blogs. You will need an API key to use this product, but they are free and you can get one immediately at wordpress.com when you sign up. Installs easily, just upload the included files, and install the product file. NO TEMPLATE EDITS! You should probably use a promotion strategy outlined here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost....3&postcount=18 This will reduce your Akismet usage and not filter your regular users who you are pretty confident will not post SPAM. A good mod that works with this hack is the "Moderation Queue on FORUMHOME" hack here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=120150 The only other thing you need to do is: CLICK INSTALL Show Your Support

Honestly, that really isn't an issue. I would trade 1% of profits to keep spam off my moneymaker. |

So where are the rulesets of what it will catch? is that at all configurable?

I'm really interested in this atm because I'm looking for an anti-spam solution, and so far it's between this and SpamBuster.
This would very likely have much better spam detection, but I really don't like the idea of running every single post through it when in my experience all spam is generated by a new poster. If this only checked the post for spam if it was in among their first x posts it would be much more my cup of tea (this is a feature of SpamBuster). Thanks for the work, and I'll be keeping my eye on this. |

I have a user (long time existing member) that did post a few things that would've likely been caught as spam when in fact they weren't. It was just an odd way the post and numerous urls were laid out in it.. so i can see why it caught that msg and a few others..
However... this user is now just trying to reply typing in plain text with no urls and every post they make goes right to moderation?? How on earth do i exempt someone or teach Akismet that this user is fine? The plugin and akismet has been working flawlessly on the board and has caught every real piece of spam but this is beginning to annoy me. The user is just replying like i am in this thread as usual but they go right to moderation.. is it learning by username too? is there a way to fix this?? |

Create a group called Registered Users Promoted. Copy the same settings as you have for the Registered Users group EXCEPT set the option "Filter Posts With Akismet" to no. Then click the link labeled: "Promotions" and create a new promotion to: Select the usergroup: Registered Users reputation level: 0 days registered: 2 posts: 5 promotion strategy: Posts and (Reputation or Date) promotion type: Primary Usergroup Move to usergroup: Registered Users Promoted Now when a registered user has been a member for more than 2 days, AND has more than 5 posts, they will be "promoted" to the group that has no spam filtering. You can edit the promotion requirements to what you see fit. Generally SPAM is posted from flyby registrations that register with the sole intention of making a spam post, and disappearing. |

I just set that up a bit ago and basically created a new group based on registered users.. all i did was turn on akismet for the first group and turned it off for the second promoted group.
i ran the task and had promotions updated, i checked the groups to ensure the proper users were in their primary promoted group (which they were). Now when the plugin is enabled I have promoted user group users getting filtered by the plugin, how is that possible? The users in question are clearly in the promoted group and that group has AKismet filtering off... |

Did you set the promotion type to: Primary Usergroup?
