I disagree with allot of what you said, sorry. Maybe not the so-called history of it as I have never cared enough at it to research it. But , answer me this, if you will, sir...why do you think the word RAP rhymes with crap? Coincidence? I think not.

Music debates get old.. fast.

Too many opinionated people thinking they're right and the world is wrong.

Personally, I used to like nothing but br0000tal metal. Pretty much since childhood. Recently though, I've opened my mind a lot more. I can probably name an artist from every genre out there (that I know of) that I like.

Being more open minded with music has helped me out a lot with the band I'm in. But whatever.. as to the original question:

I talk about this quite often. I kind of argue the fact that music that is considered "classic rock" now will be the same bands and music forever. Bands that have happened between all the legendary groups/artists are no where to be heard of right now..

Take a look at things, you know? Pop has died out. Nu-metal has died out. The new "hip" screamo/emo/hardcore/metalcore/whatever genre will be dead soon too. And I can assure myself that none of todays bands will be played on "classic rock" stations when I get older.

Um, does that make sense to anyone? I don't know.. I just got done playing a show, it's really late, so I'm kind of.. out of it a bit?

That's what makes a good debate. It wouldn't be interesting if everyone agreed or didn't stick to their beliefs. It has nothing to do with being right and the whole world wrong. That seems like a pretty shallow statement to me.

[high]* Boofo waits to see if he takes the debate bait. :cross-eyed:[/high]

Most words rhyme, with the exception of a few like purple and orange. Like with your play of words with "rap", one could also make the claim that "rock" rhymes with "crock" or "cock". I, however, view it as a mere coincidence.

Now considering that rock came from the blues too, it can be reasonably inferred that rock and rap derived from the same musical origin. Both forms of music are rebellious and targets the youth. Is this a coincidence? Factually, no.

While I listen to a lot of jazz, vocal and classical music I grew up heavily influenced in the Hip-Hop culture. I got my exposure when I was in the second grade and it stayed with me throughout the years. Rap was naturally a part of it and it's in my blood.

LOL!! I have to agree...and we're both showing our age My problem with rap is the "gangsta's" going down the road in their fart pipe honda's with the noise (erm, "music") so loud it rattles the windows in my house and disturbs my space! Makes me wish I didn't live in the city where shooting at cars is illegal

Exactly! And how many RAP videos do you see Rappers smiling in and looking like they are having fun filming the video. Too much hate and anger in it for me.

It's ok to dislike something but if you do then do so for the correct reasons. "Gangsta Rap" is not the basis of rap. Let me reiterate, the original rap style was about having fun. It was "feel good" music. It wasn't about flashing gang signs and being hard. The lyrics had a positive message unlike what you mostly hear today.

The mainstream is flooded with so called "gangsta" rap, made famous by Ice T. and N.W.A. While they had street credibility most of the gangsta rappers today are "studio gangstas". They have to look the part to be believable.

It's a shame that rap is synonymous with "gangsta rap" but if that's what the radio plays, that's what people believe. "Gangsta rap" is only one style of many. It is not and was never the basis of rap.
